Wedding DIY in 2017 is nothing new: we’ve all seen mason jars, glitter craft projects and yards of homemade bunting. But the trend is becoming more focused, with a nod to artisan design and true craftsmanship – simply wrapping everything up in hessian and lace is beginning to look just a little dated.

The latest wedding style trends are all about skill. We love the abundance of flower workshops all over the UK. We’re excited by crafty hen parties, silversmithing workshops and brides and grooms who embrace a new challenge for their weddings. But our favourite simply has to be calligraphy.

The art of hand lettering is a rare magic. We lost our daily scribbling skills in the early 2000s… but we found a love for beautifully written, carefully crafted and stylised letters. The biggest trend in wedding stationery since ever, calligraphy has real impact and will add the loveliest personal touch to your day.

Did I ever tell you how much I adore flowers? If I could spend my days surrounded by this kind of pretty I’d be in heaven… I’m so so lucky that my work involves beautiful imagery landing in my inbox every single day. And I’m thrilled to be sharing images from Charlotte Balbier‘s Untamed Love collection with you today. These are gowns with a fresh, new and exciting style – a wonderfully creative evolution of the Charlotte Balbier brand.

Floral prints are huge for 2017 & 2018. We love a bold statement – and the floral fabric of the Untamed Love and Bloom dresses are just out of this world. The beautiful collection is all very English Country Garden for the modern bride… and I can’t think of anything prettier, can you?

My nan did our flowers for us and they were amazing. We felt so lucky to have her and all our family and friends have such a big part in our day.

I first met Stef on a late spring day at Aspire – she was perched on a hilltop pretending to eat a picnic, surrounded by a dozen or so photographers. My first time at an Aspire photoshoot was all kinds of amazing: I met so many creative folks who’ve been a part of my adventures over the last couple of years.

Since that magical day Stefanie has featured on the English Wedding Blog many times as model and make up artist. She was the cover girl of our Wedding Book in 2016; she’s modelled for some of my favourite bridal shoots and when I needed a make up artist for our ‘artisan romance’ photoshoot on Love My Dress, she was the first and only person I needed to call.

There’s something intimate about having your wedding make up and hair done – it’s so important to choose someone who’ll be a real pleasure to have around on your wedding day morning.

Stef is absolutely lovely, calm and reassuring, always ready with a smile.

We never have a Wednesday lull on the English Wedding Blog. In fact we like to leap out of bed grinning, ridiculously excited for the day, and share the most amazing thing we can find on the whole internet. So, welcome. This is special and bound to brighten your entire week… Charlotte and Alex’s wedding is breathtakingly beautiful.

“I totally fell in love with my dress! The main dress was Charlie Brear and I knew as soon as I saw it that I would be hard pushed to find anything that suited me better. I loved going to the showroom as CB does lots of great separates so you can mix and match and get something really personal to you. I tried on lots of combinations but in the end bought the dress and then had the lace top made by the talented ladies at Forget-me-not on the Isle of Wight.

The style of Chell and Ben’s wedding is wonderful: this is a themed wedding done beautifully, and it’s a joy to scroll through their images! When this wonderfully sparkly, gold, glamorous wedding landed in my inbox I knew you’d adore every detail…

Oh my god I was obsessed with my wedding dress! We knew the theme we wanted almost straight away; Great Gatsby Glamour. I went online to search for 1920s style dresses and instantly fell in love with the Jenny Packham Eden dress in Platinum. It had 1920’s decadence but with a bridal twist. Effortlessly stylish and beautiful without being over the top. The detailing of all the sequins and beading made it stand out above all other dresses. I am still totally in love with it now and am always looking for 1920s events I can use as an excuse to wear it again. I’m even contemplating bringing it on our honeymoon to the Maldives so I can get some more beautiful photographs in it!

Happy Sunday lovelies! I hope you’re looking forward to a relaxing day – but before you head out anywhere, I have one of the loveliest summer weddings to inspire you today! Jess & Jon’s wedding took place at a pretty Surrey church with a reception at the beautiful Ewshot Hall in Farnham. It was an elegant but relaxed country house wedding with a beautiful colour palette of soft muted greys, whites and pinks.

Gill Pike was my florist. She is amazing. I gave her my themes and colours and let her work her magic with very little input. The flower arch looked stunning.

Gemma from Harper’s Events was in charge of decorating the venue. All of the guests commented on how elegant it looked, we loved the big illuminating letters.
We also had Victoria from Extremely Lovely Weddings decorate the venue. She was so creative and had beautiful fake trees which made such a difference to the look of the room. Victoria also provided extra bits such as a DIY photobooth , basket of flip flops and a basket of blankets for outside. We would highly recommend these suppliers to anyone getting married.

Are you sold on the bridal separates trend? I have to admit, I love the idea of separates so much – just for how beautiful they look! Today though, I wanted to show you bridal separates from another perspective – with Charlotte Balbier‘s gorgeous new imagery really showcasing the versatility of beautiful tops and skirts. So often we hear readers say, “I just wish I could wear my dress again!” – and the beauty of separates is, you can. Over and over… and you’ll look fabulous, I promise!

We adore Charlotte’s beautiful sheer lace and silver embellished Nova topper matched with the beautiful Wilder skirt… and jeans. So beautiful.

Charlotte Balbier’s Separates collection perfectly fuses the boundaries of bridal and fashion. The luxe lace toppers can be worn long after your wedding day – pair them with jeans for a chic everyday outfit.

You can even mix and match on your wedding day, investing in individual pieces to be worn and treasured long after your wedding day.

Individual, fun and full of colour and personality - a real wedding at Nyland Manor (31)

The colourful, happy vibe of Lucy and Steve’s wedding is just how I’d imagine the perfect wedding to be. Perfection isn’t about colour palettes or a theme, it’s not even about the day running to schedule or being stress free: the perfect wedding is one where everyone is smiling from beginning to end, where the dancefloor is full, where the best memories are unplanned, unexpected and all the more amazing for it. Today’s gorgeous bride Lucy and super handsome groom Steve show us exactly how it’s done…

We made up the flowers ourselves! This was one of my favourite parts of the wedding prep! Our venue didn’t need much decoration but the marquee did! We did this all ourselves, with help from work colleagues, friends and family. We made almost everything! Table centres, the favours, extra bits that went around the venue! I loved doing all of this.
