Vicky & Damien’s beautiful York wedding, with Hamish Irvine Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

A glorious Yorkshire wedding with incredible golden hour photos and a stunning couple! Vicky and Damien tied the knot at Howsham Hall, which they loved for its character. With a focus on fantastic entertainment, the groom and bride loved the separate bar and dancing area at the back of the venue – like a private mini nightclub! Keep reading for some fabulous supplier reviews, and scroll all the way to the end for their amazing images by wedding photographer Hamish Irvine. As always, I’ll share more favourite pics on instagram at @englishweddingblog too!

Wedding photographer review

Hamish is amazing. He is so friendly and super talented. We absolutely love our wedding photos and are so pleased we chose him to be our wedding photographer. All our guests loved him too!

Your best wedding moment or memory

Dancing the night away on the LED dance floor as husband and wife whilst LFX were playing live! They were incredible.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

A key thing we focused on was the entertainment. We really wanted to put on a good party for everyone and ourselves. We got a colourful LED dance floor, personalised glow sticks and heart sunglasses to add to the fun. Damien used to DJ and it’s still one of his hobbies now. We (but mainly Damien!) spent a lot of time in the lead up to the wedding selecting songs he wanted the 2 bands to play (and went as far as specifying the order of the songs). We also ended the night on the dance floor with a 45 minute pre-made mix he had put together which we called “Till Death do us party” in our wedding newspaper.

The wedding band, LFX, did electro swing and club classics. We loved the fact they did both so brilliantly.

We had Trio vivo doing the music entertainment up until we had to get seated for our wedding breakfast. We started off with mainly classical music but after we got married we mixed it up by walking out to Avici’s Wake me up and all the songs the followed were a complete mix of songs from Disney all the way through to Jurassic park!

Venue name + review

Howsham Hall

The venue is stunning. Although it is formal/elegant, it has some really cool and quirky touches. The decor is fabulous and the whole venue has so much character. We also loved the fact it had separate bar and dancing area at the rear of the property- it was like having our own mini nightclub.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Mikado, bardot a-line/princess style dress with silver and pearl chandelier earrings, Tiffany diamond necklace and charlotte mills pearl open toed block heels.

Navy suit from Moss Bros and a champagne cravat.

One of my bridesmaids prepared our menu and name tags. She attached these together with a seal of a personalised monogram (our initials) she had designed.

Colette is incredibly talented and so lovely. My bridesmaids and I loved having her with us on the wedding morning. I had Hollywood curls and my hair looked absolutely perfect! I got so many compliments about it all day. My bridesmaids all chose different hair styles and each one looked fantastic!

MUA (Charlotte Wilson) – Charlotte is amazing. She listened to exactly what I wanted during my trial, made really helpful suggestions and made me look the best I ever have! I got so many compliments all day about my make up and all my bridesmaids looked amazing too. My bridesmaids and I loved having Charlotte with us on the wedding morning-she’s so friendly, fun and was such a calming presence when my nerves kicked in.
