Are you fed up of being indoors and do you feel cheated that your wedding has been postponed and your honeymoon cancelled? Who could have predicted that something we can’t even see would ruin the plans of so many. Well, here’s an idea for when you feel safe enough to have a night or two away from home… Why not plan something really cool and elope? On the Isle of Skye, wedding photographer Penny Hardie sees all kinds of tiny weddings – they don’t even have to be legally binding, in fact many aren’t.

Ready to Run Away? Isle of Skye elopements... (6)

Can’t Wait?

Ok, so legally you need to fill in forms, register with the local registry office and all that. On Skye we see many couples who have decided to ditch the formalities and do their own thing. They may have a legal ceremony before they arrive or when they get back home, but they come to make their own commitment to each other in the wide open stunning scenery. They may have a hand fasting and tie the knot, they may jump over a broom together and some just exchange their own words. We get a whole lot of people who bring their wedding dress thousands of miles just to have their pictures taken here.

If there was ever a time for doing things differently, it’s right now. Elopements have been creeping in popularity for a handful of years. Styled elopements like this one can inspire us all to place marriage and commitment before the massive party we call a wedding. So here’s an option for you: book a registrar and a photographer, and go get this done. You’ll be married, and you can still celebrate in style when social distancing is nothing more than a memory.

Lovely couple Pippa & David had a joyful spring elopement in Dartmoor back in the days when spring was simply glorious spring, and we could all go out and get wed and do all the wonderful things! I wanted to share it with you today as a reminder that normality WILL resume, and that the future can still be more beautiful than ever. Patience, my lovelies – this will pass. So let’s join the happy couple who took spring as the inspiration behind their wedding theme. The sense of joy and optimism at seeing the first green shoots of the season and splashes of yellow daffodils. Their vision was for everything to be fresh and vibrant, offset by white and earthy tones and textures. Their wedding venue Ever After – A Dartmoor Wedding took care of all the sourcing and styling, and Pippa & David’s day is just perfect. All images are captured by super lovely human and wedding photographer Clare Kinchin Photography.

If you could elope to anywhere in the world, where would you go? For me, Iceland… although I’d be following in the footsteps of soooo many couples right now! Perhaps the Italian mountains, or the Pyrenees – or ooh, maybe Japan? And of course – of course: wouldn’t it be amazing to elope to New York? What a dream come true that would be…

… and so it turned out for today’s brilliant couple. Hailing from London, our handsome grooms Michael and Keith eloped to New York at Christmas, grabbing some ‘wow’ photos through the city streets as they celebrated together and let it all sink in. I just adore the photos – and I hope you will too!

Thanks to Jocelyn at Everly Studios for submitting this elopement to the blog! I adore elopements and would love to hear your elopement stories and feature more like this on English Wedding! Get in touch with your submissions here.

Morning lovelies! I have a fun and unique blog to share with you today – all based around the idea of a couple eloping – and taking their beloved dog with them! This is soooo cute and I just love the idea. I’m all for elopements anyway (it’s totally what I’d do!) and the addition of Indy the Hungarian Vizla just makes this all the more adorable.

Images are by Iconik Photography, the venue is Trenderway Weddings and the day was styled and planned by Hannah’s Weddings & Events. The lovely film of the day is by Kate Fierek. See the full supplier list below!

A dog friendly elopement in Cornwall - images by Iconik Photography (5)

Natalie from Iconik Photography told me, “A dog can be very much part of the family and therefore should play an important part in life’s important events! Elopements are the ideal way of shaking off the “frills” of a large wedding and concentrating on just the two of you. Very much your wedding your way!

Did you see yesterday’s elopement inspiration feature? (check it out here) I mentioned one of my best friends eloped last week: I’m so thrilled for her and her husband! And I have to confess, if me and my guy were to tie the knot, we’d elope. Because I just love the romance of it all: the escape, the shared secret, the adventure. So I wanted to write a little something to inspire all of you considering an elopement.

I can’t think of anyone better to help with this feature than lovely friend and sponsor of English Wedding, Emily Black Photography. I randomly spotted on instagram the other week that Emily had eloped: 6 years ago, she and her hubby tied the knot in Italy. Emily seems to have set a trend: in the last few years, elopements have become more and more popular, so I asked her to tell me a little of her story.

So stick around – it’s going to be the loveliest week!

Today we’re all about modern elopements. This is most definitely a Thing: I LOVE elopement stories: one of my best friends eloped last week! I’d encourage anyone thinking about a romantic elopement to indulge in a little styling, and so today’s feature is for all of you brides who’d like to incorporate a clean and contemporary look with your elopement planning.

gorgeous scenery and so much romance - Lubov and Alexander's Cambridge elopement with Thyme Lane Photography (25)

Gorgeous couple Lubov and Alexander met a few years ago through work and he proposed to her in Paris on a romantic holiday. They moved to London and wanted a very intimate, romantic elopement just for the two of them somewhere simple and beautiful so they chose the meadows of Wandlebury Hill in the Cambridgeshire countryside. They wanted everything to be kept very natural, all about their feelings and nothing else. They were a shy couple but very much in love with each other – and their elopement pics are some of the most romantic and beautiful I’ve ever seen.

Today’s real elopement shows you don’t have to have a big wedding to be married. Marriage is a commitment; celebrating it is separate, entirely up to you and can be as public or as private as the two of you would like it to be. You don’t need wedding favours, stationery, a massive cake or even a venue, or a band or caterers. All you ever need is just two humans in love.

This dreamy editorial captures hazy Italian days in the most beautiful way. Imagine it’s summertime and you’re miles away from anywhere in the Italian countryside, with a villa of your own for the week of your wedding day – and everything is simply perfect. I adore the lush bouquet by Shining Flowers, the dreamy tablescape by Elisabetta Carraretto and the wonderfully floaty gown by the fabulous Jurgita Bridal.

It’s all captured beautifully by Sonya Lalla Photography, a Tuscany, Florence and Rome destination elopement photographer. Sonya is known for her romantic and delicate photographic style, and got in touch with me a little while ago to ask for some calligraphy pieces for this shoot.

Knowing Sonya’s stunning photographic style, I was delighted to oblige! I created a relaxed invitation suite for an Italian destination wedding, featuring a simple olive branch illustration and watercolour image of the duomo in Florence. The ink I used was handmade, in a soft olive grey, and written on torn edge watercolour paper. I love these images to bits, and they fit so beautifully with the overall styling of the shoot.

Cornwall wedding inspiration with Jennifer Jane Photography on English-Wedding.com (46)

Happy Monday lovelies! How was your weekend? We’ve been busy bees gathering up some incredible weddings to share with you over the next few weeks – and I wanted to begin this week with a gorgeous elopement in one of my favourite parts of the country. I adore Cornwall – and elopements have a VERY special place in my heart. Welcome to English Wedding our two stunning brides – Adelaide and Kathryn!

Adelaide and Kathryn were married at The Cow Shed, Torpoint, Cornwall in October. The venue was perfect – a secluded, rustic, family-run farmhouse with friendly and welcoming hosts, gorgeous breakfasts and lots of beautiful doggos. The whole place is decorated with such care and thoughtful attention. “We booked it without seeing it and it exceeded our expectations.”

Dunluce Castle elopement Northern Ireland Antrim, images by Luke Flint Media on the English Wedding Blog (17)

I’ve seen about 1% of beautiful Northern Ireland – we have friends in Newcastle, and the tiny section of coastline I’ve seen is just wonderful. I’d love to explore more. Luckily via the blog I can… because today is one of the very best celebrations of love I’ve had the pleasure of sharing on English Wedding! Let’s escape to magical Dunluce Castle, on the northernmost tip of County Antrim, for gorgeous Emma and Simon’s breathtaking and romantic elopement!

The couple got ready together at home then went to Dunluce castle ruins for their ceremony. Emma wear’s a dress from Wtoo by Watters, and Simon’s jacket is from The Wedding Centre with trousers and shoes by River Island.  Emma’s bouquet is by Penelope Flowers. Some of my favourite shots are from Ballintoy Harbour, where the newlyweds headed to catch some last beautiful images before sunset. Photographer Luke says they had to climb a few fences and got a bit muddy but it was worth it – I couldn’t agree more!

I’m secretly loving the fact that it’s not only wedding season right now, it’s beginning to feel like elopement season too. If you’re considering it – just do it! And if you need convincing, check out this week’s TWO elopement features on the English Wedding Blog. The first we featured on Tuesday (Daryl & Kathryn in Canada) and the second is here for you right now. Gorgeous girls Marta & Zoe have been together for 9 years, but with Marta’s family being in Brazil the girls won’t have a big wedding over here. Instead, wedding photographer Verity Westcott and a team of lovely suppliers joined forces to create a beautiful elopement styled shoot with all the ‘trimmings’!

Cornwall is the most beautiful location, don’t you think? Where would you elope, if you could?
