Spring wedding inspiration: the most divine colours – images by NIEMIERKO
Seasonal wedding style is so important for sustainable weddings. Tapping into Spring florals for your wedding can create the most incredible atmosphere. I’ve been so inspired by these beautiful images from Niemierko today I simply had to share them alongside ten top tips for styling a stunning Spring wedding!
1. Seasonal florals – always!
During the spring months of March, April and May, florists have access to beautiful British blooms. Lesser known flowers can take centre stage and give your wedding that unique look (and scent!) to make it an unforgettable occasion.
Choosing sustainable flowers means they’re UK-grown (cutting down on the carbon footprint of imported flowers) and all the more beautiful for it. Spring blooms can be delicate and unusual, with all kinds of specialist varieties available.
You can even grow your own if you plan in advance! Bulbs are easy to grow and available from specialist retailers online.
2. Greenery, foliage and buds!
Spring is a time of emergence and new growth, and that’s a wonderful theme to embrace with your wedding styling. Shoots and leaves in vibrant green will create a beautiful springtime aesthetic for your day.
3. Less is more: choose quality over quantity
In our featured post “the joy of seeing beyond wedding trends” Mark Niemierko offered the most fabulous piece of advice: that “there’s no point in choosing a beautiful wedding venue or reception space if you’re just going to vomit flowers all over it”.
Take this to heart, and use the most beautiful flowers you can afford – but sparingly, and within your budget. Let your venue shine! It’s always lovely to choose a space with its own style, which you can enhance with sublime details.
4. Glassware hire
A brilliant and sustainable touch is to hire colourful glassware for your tables. Glass looks fantastic, is a stunning way to add colour and sparkles in candlelight! Speaking of which…
5. Taper candles for the final touch
Taper candles are timeless and sophisticated, and will look stunning on any wedding table. The colour selections from Ester & Erik’s taper candles range are glorious. I love Apple Bite and Elderflower for spring.
6. 5 favourite spring blooms for weddings
Let’s get specific about flowers for a spring wedding. You won’t find a hydrangea or peony – but there are some stunning flowers at this time of year.
1. Lily of the valley – an English wedding classic and beautifully fragrant
2. Tulips – now in more and more varieties including real statement blooms
3. Freesias – my Grandma’s favourite and lovely for structure in a bouquet
4. Hellebores – an early spring flower in white, green and dramatic shades of purple and pink
5. Grape hyacinths – a tiny hero in blue – absolutely beautiful!
7. Accent colours
While greens and whites are classic Spring wedding colours, pops of colour can lift your style. Yellows are a joyful choice, and I absolutely adore this look created by Niemierko.
8. Create warmth
Spring in the UK is unpredictable! You might be lucky with glorious sunshine, but creating your own warmth will be appreciated by wedding guests. Candles and colours are key. You can also provide cosy blankets or shrugs (within your budget) – and choose a venue with a roaring log fire if you can!
9. Embrace nature
Springtime is when the natural world comes alive. Buds and blooms and lashings of greenery are the obvious way to incorporate Spring vibes into a wedding. More subtle but just as beautiful: choose caterers with a spring menu making the most of local fresh produce. Give seed wedding favours (native wildflowers are perfect) and choose a venue with natural woodland, mature trees in the gardens, or breathtaking countryside views.
10. Scale to match your budget
Whichever of our Spring wedding tips you choose to follow, remember to scale it back to suit your budget. If you have thousands of pounds to spend on florals, you’re incredibly lucky! If you have much less, be creative with how you use your flowers and candles. And if you have time, Spring is the best time of year for planning, and perhaps planting, your own wedding flower garden!
