So! Now that Halloween is all done and dusted, I’m getting ready for Christmas… and just in time I have a special offer to share with you – only I’m introducing it with a personal twist. Back in the summer my man gave me one of the loveliest gifts I’ve ever had. It was a photobook with photos and captions for all of the places we’d been since we met. I cried… and I love it more than anything. Because it was so personal it means the world to me.*

*Not the intro the guys from The PhotoBook Co had planned, but one I hope will make you smile – and hey, it’s a better reason to buy a PhotoBook Album for Christmas than because you get 25% off, isn’t it?!

If Simon Cowell got in touch with a list of the UK’s top 50 wedding bands, I’d be less than impressed. He’s no expert on music if you ask me… just a very shrewd businessman. When I see a list of ‘the top 50‘ or ‘the UK’s best‘ I’ll sit up and pay attention if it’s compiled by an expert. Otherwise, I’m at best disinterested and at worst alarmingly cynical about these sorts of things.

Who knows who’s best?

I was included in a list of ‘the UK’s top 25 wedding bloggers‘ back in July. Nice to be noticed, I guess. I wonder how GoHen compiled the list – from Google? or by looking on maybe.

A list of wedding bloggers is harmless. But a little while later I noticed they’d published a list of the top 50 UK wedding photographers (here). Uh-oh… The article is written by GoHen – “the dedicated hen weekends division of StagWeb – the event specialists, established in 2001”. Their ‘about’ page gives no mention of any expertise in wedding photography.

Nicola and Paul had an intimate wedding at Dodford Manor in the springtime. Their wedding style was inspired by the rustic charm of a country pub, with a relaxed atmosphere and a focus on friends and family. The ceremony was set in the family church, Our Lady of Charity & St Augustine’s roman catholic church.

Nicola wears a gorgeous designer wedding dress by the fabulous Charlie Brear and looks amazing – she told me it was only the third dress she tried; she fell in love with it immediately and it was “WELL over budget”… but the excitement I can sense in her words is justified; she looks incredible.

Images are by the very lovely – and new to the English Wedding Blog – Gabrielle Hall. With a photojournalistic style, Gabrielle says, “My job is to capture the energy and personality created as it unfolds and deliver back to you to keep forever.” Isn’t that lovely?

Isabel and John styled their Sussex wedding so beautifully – the flowers are spectacular, the locations full of English countryside charm. They married at All Saints Church in Plumpton Green, a gorgeous little church with so much character and a unique and quirky spire.

Isabel wore the prettiest dress: with a fabulous lace jacket over the top, and a striking back design, it’s ever so beautiful. She’s a stunning bride with such style: she wears her hair up, with simple pearl drop earrings and a cathedral length veil.

John and his groomsmen wear top hats and tails, every bit the English gentlemen for this very traditional wedding. The horse and carriage (Sussex Equestrian Carriages) is the perfect transport from church to home; this is very much a quintessentially English wedding and has all the most traditional elements done beautifully.

UK wedding cake designers are the best in the world. My favourite cake designers are all based in the UK, and there’s so much choice in wedding cakes you’ll never struggle to find one you love! Gone are the days when designers were limited by convention; ingredients for a modern wedding cake include folklore, nature and Russian jewellery boxes – at least according to the fabulous Rosalind Miller Cakes!

A Winter Garden – Rosalind Miller Cakes

Rosalind Miller’s Winter Garden wedding cake is a true showstopper; the ideal statement cake for a winter wedding celebration. I love icy blues and silver for a winter wedding; the delicate styling and flower stems of this cake make it both intricate and striking.

For a floral wedding cake and an English garden wedding style, I just love the Ring O Roses cake – inspired by a nursery rhyme, it has a pretty simplicity and girlish colours which work beautifully together.

There’s a saying I’d never heard before! If you’re worried about rain on your wedding day, it’s one to remember. Pips and Ian were married back in May, and you might say they were unlucky with the weather… but seeing their wedding photos I don’t think it matters for a second.

Imagine you have everything set up for your big day: the marquee is beautifully decorated, and instead of heading outside to smoke or play giant Jenga, all of your guests are together inside. It’s what makes a wedding so special, isn’t it? Everyone you love together in the same room to celebrate with you? It certainly was a special day for Pips and Ian, and their wedding looks like a wonderful day – umbrellas included!

Kristen and Adam’s winter wedding has everything: a pretty sense of style, DIY details and quirky personal touches which are special to them. This gorgeous couple chose to marry at Northbrook Park in winter, for the very best reasons: “it is a lot cheaper and you get to go somewhere really nice and sunny for honeymoon! 🙂

It’s this kind of creative thinking I love best about UK couples! And creativity is a key part of their wedding style too: Kristen and Adam put so much into styling their wedding with DIY invitations and details – they did an amazing job and the overall look of the day is wonderful.

Kristen is a stunning bride, wearing a gown by Sophia Tolli with Vivienne Westwood pearls and shoes by Rainbow Club. She’s radiant in the winter sunshine and looks so incredibly happy with new husband Adam – the perfect English bride and groom.

Lovely Jo Linder from Vintage Twee has launched new versions of her best selling wedding party picks: vintage and rainbow coloured party picks for civil weddings with ‘mr & mr’ or ‘mrs & mrs’ in a lovely vintage typewriter font. It feels like such a long time since England’s first same-sex marriages were making the news – so it’s wonderful to see them inspiring such a lovely new collection from one of my favourite wedding suppliers.

What an incredible venue choice for today’s real wedding feature – Harrogate’s Sun Pavilion – a restored historic venue reflective of the Art Deco period – perfect for a modern wedding. The glittering Sun Pavilion provides the most amazing backdrop for the gorgeous wedding of Imogen and Liam.

Wedding photographers Chris and Verity (Sansom Photography) said, “It was great to finally get the chance to shoot in the Sun Pavilion and the spectacular glass ceiling didn’t disappoint. The pavilion decking provided much needed shade and a great area for the drinks reception.”

Despite a toppling Eiffel Tower wedding cake and with very little extra venue decoration needed, Imogen and Liam created an elegant wedding with a Parisian theme in navy blue. I think it’s wonderful and I’m proud to share their day with you on the English Wedding Blog.

A stunning feature for your beautiful eyes today lovely readers: prepare to be inspired by feathers in this wonderful styled shoot from the London Wetland Centre. I was blown away by the images as soon as I saw them. Gold and vintage ceramic bunnies? Oohhhhh yes please! There’s an exclusive behind the scenes film on my Facebook page today as well – don’t miss it!

Feathers and nature styled shoot by Heline Bekker Photography (24)

Dresses are by Charlotte Wilden – stunning gowns with all the grace of Swan Lake and then some. Feathers add softness and texture to the prettiest of concepts in cream and gold.  The glorious wedding cakes by Delicieux Cakes and tablescapes are creative and exciting – and it’s the unexpected little features which make them really special. Flowers and foliage are used with charm and elegance – they’re by The Vintage Floral Design Co.

The cakes are in a world of their own. Elegant tiered designs with subtle colours and tempting shapes. Decor is outstanding: the exquisitely sculpted flowers and leaves are fabulous. And those painted lovebirds on the top tier… simply perfect. I LOVE these!
