I’m so happy and excited to be welcoming another brilliant wedding photographer to my little team of handpicked sponsors on the blog today. Last summer I featured a stunning Somerset wedding sent in by lovely Martin Dabek Photography – the images still take my breath away today! It was the first of many weddings I’m looking forward to sharing on the English Wedding Blog, with Martin’s help, over the coming months.

“Hello, I’m Martin, a wedding photographer based in Somerset.

I’ve been capturing incredible memories for my couples since 2009, so far it’s been an amazing journey.

The first wedding I photographed was in Mexico for some friends of mine and since then I have photographed over 250 weddings in the UK and abroad.

With your venue secured and wedding date firmly in the diary, it’s now time to start thinking about the music! Along with photographers and the wedding dress, live music is often considered one of the most important aspects of the day, from the unforgettable moment as the bride enters the room, to the first dance and final singalong of the night. Whilst there’s always the option of an mp3 player, nothing quite compares to the spine tingling sensation of a string quartet or harpist to really get the emotion in full flow.

If this is your first time taking on wedding planner duties then you’ll no doubt have a long list of queries on everything from schedules and logistics to band requirements and more. Having worked in the wedding music industry for the best part of 15 years, there are certain questions that come up time and time again and so to set you off on the right foot, we’ve put together this simple infographic focusing on budgets, timings and musician requirements.

I LOVE this wedding!! It’s wintry but not too Christmassy (which means I can happily publish it in spring!) and the bride and groom are gorgeous. I especially love Tom’s tweed suit and cap – and Katherine’s hair is sooooo beautiful. The little mice holding flowers are the icing on the cake… just wonderful.

Our wedding flowers by Hollyhocks Florist were beautful dark purple Calla Lilies, amnesia roses and gyp – looked amazing! It was Christmas so we had beautiful decorations for free! A floor to ceiling high Christmas tree, and miniature ones in the windows. We went for hessian bows on all the chairs. Our invitations, order of service and confetti were all homemade. They took a long time, but they were cheap and added some extra love to the day!

We looked online for a while, specifically at local photographers who had impressive portfolios. As soon as I came across Holly’s, I knew I wanted to meet her and discuss her style of photography.

Timeless wedding style comes from your heart. There’s so much pressure to ‘have’ things for your wedding – and yet, all you really need are the simple things: the two of you, and the things you love. Today’s shoot is beautiful for its simplicity and showcases the loveliest bridal gowns from Julia Tasker‘s Lake District boutique.

Flowers are white; calligraphy graces the walls; the beautiful bride wears the loveliest sparkle and flowers in her hair. Luxury fabrics, elegant lines and gentle sunlight make today’s inspiration simply wonderful.

Hey lovelies! I’d like to share two things which make me happy with you today! The first is simple: sunflowers. Gorgeous, yellow petals full of summer colour – and they’re fabulous in buttonholes and bouquets, don’t you think? (DIY brides – you can plant sunflower seeds from March onwards!) Oh, and the second thing which makes me happy? A story of an affordable and still beautiful wedding. Joe and Gemma hired a village hall, made their own ‘wedding punch’ and used it as lovely centrepieces, hung bunting from the beams and celebrated in style without breaking the bank. Gemma’s dress is breathtaking… Their wedding was submitted by lovely Paul from Stylish Wedding Photography who told me a little about the day.

“Joe & Gemma are friends of ours and had the most beautiful fun wedding last September. They very much did it on the cheap – but spent money on the things that were important to them. It rained all day long, but it was beautiful and shows what can be done on a budget.”

You have just gotten engaged!! Congratulations! Now the fun really begins!

Have you been together for years or just a short while?

Suddenly EVERYBODY is going to have an opinion on how to plan your wedding. They cannot help themselves.

how to handle wedding critics - image credit Oobaloos Photography Cheltenham (1)

I am guilty of it too! The minute I know someone has gotten engaged, I am asking, “have you got a theme, do you know what you want, do you want contacts? I have GREAT contacts, leave it with me, oh I’m sooooo excited for you!”

I forget that I am already the 4th person that day to ask that. (sorry to all my friends I have done this to btw)

SO! How do you combat this?! From DAY ONE set your ground rules.

If you want certain people to help plan certain things, ask them. They will feel amazing just to be included. You tell them exactly what you want and get them to help source/make/etc.

I’m so thrilled to be welcoming someone to the English Wedding Blog today who I know you’ll love. Cambridge wedding photographer Lee Allison loves his work and it truly shows in his images. Do check out his blog for some beautiful recent weddings – I’ve included some favourite images here for you too. 🙂

You’ll see Lee’s image on every page of the blog from today (to the right—->) and I’m really excited to tell you that Lee and I already have a couple of gorgeous real weddings up our sleeves for you in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to share them with you!

“I’m Lee, a wedding photographer based in Cambridge and you won’t be surprised to hear I love weddings. Every wedding is unique, and it’s always great to see the couple’s personalities shine through on the day.

I love to shoot natural, fun and creative images. I document your day as it unfolds, with very little direction or posing, meaning my photos capture you at your very best, relaxed and happy.

Joanna and Cajetan’s wedding is a wonderfully sophisticated, elegant celebration with lush winter colours and a real sense of fun. The day focused on giving guests the time of their lives – food and entertainment were key and the images of their day capture every moment so beautifully. Joanna is so beautiful in a bespoke designer dress and I love that this gorgeous couple planned their day together as a team.

“Typically the girls get most of the credit for planning a wedding!? If you have a husband-to-be who is willing to pitch in – use him to your advantage! Cj was absolutely fantastic, we had a shared vision about the day and he did so much of the planning. It was so much easier to plan that way, as the load was shared and we went through the stress and then the satisfaction together! It was great teamwork and by the end he found suppliers and booked them, which is half the battle! We felt like we pulled off a spectacular day! With the added addition of cultural differences and family members flying from all over the world, we had to cater to both sides. We did it!

Two of the loveliest secrets to styling a romantic, feminine and timeless wedding are fabrics and foliage. Opt for luxe napkins and calligraphy place names instead of favours; and choose ferns, leaves and opulent foliage to create texture and include nature in your day. I’m so in love with this shoot by One Stylish Day – I hope you adore it too!

Soft, romantic blush and grey wedding table styling ideas by One Stylish Day (2)

Blush & Grey is pure and natural with a lightness of touch and sensual undertones, with the innocence heightened by using British florals, creeping foliage and ripe fruit.  Create the look by using antique silver cutlery and sparkling cut glass on tables, teamed with contemporary organic crockery for an indulgent feel.  Use flowers and foliage in abundance, letting them take over tables and trail to the floor.

Pale watercolour blush pink and soft dove grey give a dreamy quality to this look.  Soften the table décor by placing a handful of dried petals in antique silver trays and glass boxes.  When it comes to the cake, less is more; a simple and elegant duo of white wedding cakes with added flowers and fruit is chic and luscious.

Nearly all of my clients tell me that they want natural looking wedding photos, lots of real emotion, laughter and tears, and nothing too posed or cheesy looking.

Well, there’s no secret to achieving this: basically if you’re relaxed, stress free and having a great time on your wedding day then it’ll come shining through in your photos.

Here’s a few tips that you can put in place before the big day to help you get ready for a wonderful relaxed wedding.

Leave some breathing room in your timeline so that you don’t feel rushed.

In my experience most wedding timelines run behind by at least 15 minutes but normally more. If you pad your timings then everything you’ve planned will happen seamlessly and without stress.

For example, get into your dress 10 or 15 minutes before you think you need to as it always takes longer than you think.
