Today’s pretty celebration is very much up my street as I adore smaller weddings. And the little mice, sausage dog and all the carefully crafted little autumnal touches throughout the day make this a fabulous feature to start our week! Sophie is absolutely gorgeous and gives an amazing review for Che Birch Hayes Photography (Herefordshire) which you’ll find just below the photos.

“Our venue is so beautiful it didn’t need much but we wanted to make it personal so we put quite a bit of thought and effort into making it special. My mum has a great eye for these things so was a great help in this department, she knows my taste well.

Organising and planning is one of my favourite things to do so Matthew said at the beginning, ‘you sort it and tell me where and when to be there and I will be’! He did enjoy helping chose the menu options though, for some reason he is more opinionated on food than fairy lights!

We call it ‘liquid sunshine’ here in the Lake District – a ‘very British’ kind of weather which seems to put on a special show every Saturday in wedding season! Time and time again I’ve heard the advice that even if it rains on your wedding day, you shouldn’t worry. Many of my photographer friends tell me they keep one eye on the weather because it never rains all day long. There’s always a break in the clouds; a moment when an eagle-eyed photographer will whisper in your ears that there’s golden sunshine outside… your chance to get some beautiful wedding day portraits to last a lifetime.

Today’s beautiful Somerset wedding is a perfect example. Yes, there’s a bit of rain to contend with – but it doesn’t spoil the pics: it adds to the story of Victoria and Adam’s day.

The details of the day are sublime: Victoria’s dress is beautiful, I love Adam’s suit (I’m sure we’ll be seeing more like this in the next couple of years: dinner jackets are a big US wedding trend) – and the styling is elegant and exquisite.

Happy weekend, lovelies! It’s been a mega busy (birthday!*) week here at English Wedding Blog HQ – I’m celebrating summer and our new shop opening and dashing around like the busy bee I am! Oh, and there’s just one more day for wedding suppliers to apply for my birthday sponsorship offer here.

*I’m somethingty-something. Going on seven. 🙂

Rose gold and blush whimsical wedding ideas (11)

Today’s styled shoot is pretty, feminine, summery bliss with unstructured floral loveliness, delicious decorative hoops (I love these!) and the prettiest brides in flowy, ethereal and wearable dresses. It’s a real treat for my birthday week and I hope you love it!

The pretty images are by lovely photographers Rebecca at Farries Photography and Sophie Oldhamstead who spent the day at Maiden’s Barn capturing this gorgeous styled shoot.

I’m so in love with the bouquets from Olivia’s Roses – and the floral theme carries on with beautiful accessories by the very talented Charlotte Rose.

I am totally biased – May is my favourite month of the year because it’s my birthday month. I love everything about this time of year: the sudden heatwave we always seem to get before June arrives; the long evenings outside with friends; the fabulous colour of spring flowers… and top of my list, bluebells.

These beautiful flowers are an annual favourite. For my birthday last year we were in Cornwall, exploring coastal paths where the sight and fragrance of thousands of bluebells was unforgettably breathtaking. And so this shoot takes me right back to those magical paths and adventures.

The bride and groom are a real couple; Emilie and Darren had a shoot with lovely photographer Andrea Kuehnis after their wedding. I think it’s a wonderful way to get a beautiful collection of couple images without all the pressure of wedding guests waiting for you to get back to the festivities!

I feel as though I’ve been on a journey with gypsophila – baby’s breath – over the years. In the early days of the English Wedding Blog it was a little-known bridal flower. Then with the vintage trend and especially with more DIY and budget weddings, it became the go-to flower for styled shoots and a perfect complement to the jam jars, hessian and lace look. And then, it plummeted from favour right along with chair covers and sugared almonds!!

All images are by Ayshea Goldberg Photography – full supplier credit list and link to the original feature (which is fabulous!) at the end of the post

One leading wedding florist who I discovered on Instagram a few weeks ago hates gypsophila so much he’d like to ban it from weddings! (Does anyone know who this guy is?! I’ve lost the link to his account and his opinions made for a great read!) Now, this comes across as a little extreme. I asked my wedding supplier friends if they agreed with him: is gypsophila totally over as a wedding flower, or is it something we can reinvent and fall back in love with for 2017?

Fabulous floral wedding style ideas at Findon Manor, with Maria D'Souza Photography (2)

Findon Manor Hotel is one of those venues that instantly hugs you as you walk in!  It’s full of Old English charm – original wood floors adorn all its intimate and elegant rooms and there is a roaring open fire that welcomes you in the front reception room.  It was love at first sight for me so when they invited me to do a styled shoot there I jumped at the chance.

It was easy to go for a Wild English Rose inspiration when it came to picking a theme – I imagined bursts of colour, wild, pretty countryside florals, quintessentially English details, mixed with gold and jewel tones for that luxe and stylish (and unstuffy) look.

Barns make beautiful, versatile wedding venues and the way they are styled can make all the difference to the feel of your barn wedding! Whilst some are new and purpose built venues or have been dramatically renovated most were built with very different intentions, so whilst having lots of character they can appear cold or agricultural which may not be the look that you are going for.

1. Adding softening textures to barn spaces

The super high ceilings add dramatic scale but bring intimacy back into your style and to soften the structure consider hanging sculptures, lighting or foliage at the height of the beams, there are so many exciting options within any theme which can make your style unique and create a big statement or add softness to the building.

2. Making a big floral statement

A barn can absorb decor and the items that you thought would feel big suddenly don’t have the same impact in a barn. Large arrangements of flowers and foliage look great against a characterful barn backdrop.

Do you have a vision for your perfect wedding invitations? Are you collecting images you love on Pinterest, but leaving it until 6 months or so before your wedding to place an order? Or do you think DIY-ing your invites will save you money? (And surely it can’t be that hard, right?)

Deliciously personal, handcrafted calligraphy wedding invites. Photo Jenny Heyworth for Aspire Photography Training (1)

I’ve been a wedding calligrapher for 12 years. I’ve made bespoke invites, launched my own collections and helped hundreds of brides and grooms find their perfect stationery. I’ve also seen thousands of invitations cross my desk from letterpress companies, high street brands and little independent wedding invitation designers.

But I’m lucky – I get to see (and make!) your stationery: I don’t have to find something for my own wedding. It’s hard – for some of you it will be way more complicated than you think. You’ll need to make compromises, scale back your expectations… or maybe be surprised when you find invitations which are less expensive than you thought they could be!

Tipi wedding ideas in Derbyshire, with Humpston and Bull Photography (20)

This exceptional styled shoot was put together by a group of extremely talented and inspirational East Midlands Wedding specialists. In collaboration with Honeysuckle & Castle, the main objective was to launch and represent the two different styles of outdoor wedding receptions on offer at the magnificent Hardwick Hall. Built by Bess of Hardwick, this historic National Trust Elizabethan Palace is a hidden gem of a wedding venue. It is elegantly set within luscious acres of extensive parkland and fine gardens that overlook the rolling beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The atmospheric Great Entrance Hall is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and partnerships, followed by a magical outdoor reception fit for a Queen in the exclusive East Court Garden and quaint Wine Glass Meadow.

Two equally stunning styles were featured in this shoot. To showcase the diversity of this awesome venue, one was created in a tipi and the other in a marquee, which we’ll feature on the English Wedding Blog in a couple of weeks! Both tents were nestled at the rear of the Hall and encapsulated what a happy couple could achieve on their wedding day.

I ask brides and grooms whose weddings we feature where they spent more, and where they saved. Often couples splash out on the venue and save by making their own stationery. I personally think if you can invest a little time into making your own beautiful on-the-day stationery, it’s so worth it!

So today I have a sneak peek of an affordable (it’s only £25) online calligraphy workshop for creative brides and grooms to share with you. Calligraphy is a beautiful way to turn simple stationery pieces into little treasures. And the modern styles aren’t really that hard to learn!

If you’re creative and ready for a new adventure, Making Beautiful Letters is for you!

Sign up for the online workshops for £25 today!

The online workshop is for absolute beginners and it’s really easy to get started. You’ll learn the tips and tricks of modern calligraphy at your own pace, with a new video tutorial delivered by email every week.
