Botanical Luxe wedding inspiration with Sophie Bowdler Photography (21)

I am a wedding photographer based in Dorset. A few months ago I gathered together all of the best wedding suppliers I know to create a wedding inspiration shoot. Many of the suppliers involved were already friends of ours and the others have now become new friends 🙂 The venue was easy to choose as it’s actually the venue for my own wedding which was at the end of May!

So after concocting a Pinterest mood board for the shoot, months of bouncing ideas back and forth over Facebook, dress fittings and meet-ups over tea, we created our “Botanical Luxe” styled shoot! We were keen to have a rural, rustic backdrop but to create a modern fresh look.

Happy Monday, beautiful! It’s one of those days when we’ll all have to close our eyes and dream of summer breezes, lazy beach days and endless sunsets… or is it? It might not feel like August just yet, but I have the loveliest bridal shoot to transport you away to something fabulous…

Boho Lane are wedding photographers with a difference. They (Gemma & Andy) love the boho lifestyle and their creativity shines from their images. Along with …. they put together this gorgeous Bohemian Dream styled bridal shoot to prove you don’t need a wedding gown or a full-on bridal look: something a little rustic, personal and individual can be even more beautiful. I love it and I hope you do too!

Gemma says, “we loved this bohemian styled shoot with the beautiful Natasha. Wearing a stunning vintage dress coupled with a tan fringed waistcoat, and of course it had to be bare feet to complete this bohemian dream. The flower crown is by the super talented gypsy rose vintage

Today’s styled shoot is a favourite – I’m biased, because I’m a little bit in it (tooo exciting!) and also because the creative team behind the images are super lovely friends from the north west. Emma Billsborough is an amazing photographer, a fabulous person and a friend I’ve known through the English Wedding Blog for years – and this shoot is one of the most exciting projects of my year.

Emma brought together a fantastic group of north west wedding creatives to show couples how to style a day with colour. Mixed palettes don’t have to be soft and subtle, they can be bold and exciting and still ooze grace and elegance.

I love the way Emma B Photography‘s images capture the glamour and playful colour palette of the shoot. The cake – masterfully painted by The One Who Bakes – is a showstopper, don’t you think?

Today’s wedding will have you grinning happily at your screen and pinning to your heart’s content! I love the evening shots with all the sunshine – in fact the whole wedding looks fabulous. (I didn’t know that many people could get on the roof of a Landrover…!!) More to the point though, I love the festival vibe, the details shots of the flowers, bunting and sparkly lights. I adore Aimee and Tom – they look gorgeous, and amazing together. This is wedding blog gold, guys!

This was the sort of wedding which as photographer I call a gift – an incredibly happy couple, a stunning venue, and above all a really relaxed and fun feel where the day just flows, and magical moments continuously present themselves. Aimee and Tom were so happy together, and the atmosphere was infectious, with all their young friends having such a good time. I felt completely absorbed in the day, and stayed right till the end!

Don’t you just love a really good book? For me it’s fantasy; although I love the nostalgia of childhood books and old Penguin & Ladybird classics. Today’s wedding is gorgeous for its literary theme – and Alex & Adam are the loveliest couple, I’ve been so excited to share their day with you! This is an amazing wedding. The venue is fabulous: I love discovering little secret, tucked away venues with a character and mind all of their own. And the couple are absolutely gorgeous – Alex’s dress is divine; Adam’s smile is superb!

Alex is a Secondary school English teacher and the church was where the famous Victorian poets Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning were married beofre eloping to the continent. Therefore the reception was literary themed with book print bunting, books on tables as centre pieces and Penguin style book covers as the table plan. Name cards were Puffin Book cover postcards that were chosen to suit the guests. Adam is an opera singer and the music was heavily important so this was another theme for the ceremony and continued with the best man’s personal song/speech.

I totally love this idea – an afternoon with your best girls learning how to make macarons in a beautifully styled shoot. I agree with wedding planner Jenna Hewitt, who put together this gorgeous shoot / experience day – it’s all too easy to let planning take over your life, and it’s so important to take a break and have some fun!

The inspiration for the shoot came from the insight that, all too often, brides-to-be can get so caught up in the “to do list” that they don’t allow time to enjoy the whole planning experience.

Planning a wedding is no small task, most of us are juggling it on top of an already very busy day job, social calendar and family commitments and then there is the pressure for it to be ‘perfect.’  With so much fun to be had in the anticipation and build up, it is a shame to let the pressure of the “to do list” ruin the enjoyment.

Can we do this wedding backwards? Would that be ok… it’s just the first image to land in my inbox was absolutely breathtaking – I need you to see this one first!

WOW, right?! I know!! Emma and Christian’s wedding is gorgeous – from beginning to end (or vice versa, hehe) and the portraits of everyone are fabulous: Emma looks stunning and I LOVE the flowers, the smiles and how it’s so easy to see how much everyone enjoyed the day.

Images are by Tom at TH Photography, who told me Christian and Emma have become his good friends over the past few years as he and Christian are both in the wedding trade. A few months before, Christian was the magician at Tom’s own wedding!

Like anyone going to a friend’s wedding the best part is the marriage itself, seeing the emotion, love and joy they have for each other and showing it to the world.

From the beauty of an English country garden to the elegance and glamour of a city location… I do so LOVE seeing all the fabulous weddings in my inbox and today’s is pretty special! London wedding photographer Patryk told me Joanna and Mitesh’s wedding had an amazing atmosphere throughout the entire day. “They are a very happy couple and guests came from all over the world to share their beautiful wedding ceremony, which was at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel.

I had seen Patryk’s work before at a friend’s wedding, so we knew the quality we would be getting. However what makes Patryk stand out is his style and attitude, he lets the event take place around him and his eye for detail for capturing the perfect shot to allow a story to be told is amazing.

The ONLY wedding theme which has been constantly popular since this blog was born in 2009 (we’re six!! who knew?!) is English Country Garden. I love that we’re so smitten with flowers, with nature, with the beauty of our gardens and countryside… and today’s styled inspiration shoot pays tribute to this, the loveliest wedding theme of all.

The inspiration of this editorial shoot was the location itself, the recently renovated south London wedding venue, Morden Hall and the surrounding beautiful Morden Hall Park. The park is run by National Trust and it contains a variety of natural landscapes, including parkland, the River Wandle, meadow and marshland. One of the most popular areaS of the park is the rose garden, which has over 2000 roses and other flowers and it is a stunning example of the traditional English rose garden. We wanted the images to reflect the elegance of this historic venue but also to showcase the natural beauty surrounding it.

This summer has been wonderful already. I’ve written for some amazing couples, worked on fabulous projects for wedding signage and stationery, and designed calligraphy suites for some of my favourite photographers. Tomorrow I’m teaching a calligraphy workshop in Manchester and we have another (booking up fast!) on the 19th of August. If you’d like to come along, you can book places in my Etsy shop now. But first… a few little notes about using calligraphy for your wedding day.

So many brides and grooms contact me looking for a special, personal touch to their day. Calligraphy is more than just writing: it’s art, craftsmanship and creativity – and as such it lends real elegance to place settings and wedding tables. Most of my work over the summer months is writing place names for weddings, and I thought I’d share some tips with you all today.

5 tips for styling your wedding tables with calligraphy

  1. Keep it simple – use flat cards, linen napkins and plain plates or chargers for a modern, elegant look

I absolutely must share some of Alice & Matt’s advice with you before we see their fabulous images. With every real wedding feature I always ask my brides and grooms to complete a little interview for the blog, and theirs is one of the very best I’ve ever received. The advice for you lovely lot is superb:

What’s the best thing about being married?

The knowledge that we have made a life long commitment to each other has further strengthened our relationship.
The comfort in knowing you are loved and loved back.
You’ve married your best friend.
Seeing the ring on his finger, and knowing I put it there, gives me butterflies every time.

“Your wedding ceremony should be the most important aspect of your wedding day. It’s the part that really matters, the reason you and your guests are all there and the reason for the reception afterwards – to celebrate what happened in that ceremony.”

Alternative and unique wedding ceremonies with Carmela Weddings London and Surrey (1)

In reality, it is the part of the wedding day that is most often overlooked and more time spent on décor and entertainment than the words you’ll say to each other when you actually get married. I get it. It’s not the fun part and because of the rules around what words have to be said/can’t be said when using a registrar, there’s often not a great deal to decide on anyway other than some music and a couple of readings, right?

Wrong! There’s another way to make your ceremony really special that not many couples know about, although it is becoming increasingly popular as couples really want their whole day to reflect them and their personalities. I’m talking about a celebrant-led wedding.
