Today’s lovely bride Ruth got in touch with me to show me her wonderfully creative woodland wedding to Stolly. They married this summer, celebrating in a woodland clearing – the space had nothing; they hired tipis and decorated the space themselves (along with lots of help from friends and family). I love how the woodland setting comes into its own in the evening, with fabulous lighting and areas for everyone to chat, dance and toast marshmallows around the fire! This is beautiful, free and goes to show there are no rules when it comes to wedding planning!

“I made all of our stationery, from detail on the name places to table name centrepieces and the mirror table plan and drinks list. I also painted signs on wood to decorate the trees – I love arts and crafts. I’m an interior designer so wanted a wedding that was a blank canvas that we could put our own stamp on. We love visiting Stolly’s family in the Cotswolds and wanted an outdoor wedding. We found the perfect woods near them but there was nothing there so we made everything beforehand: both families and my incredible bridesmaids helped us basically build a festival.

Hello!

We got into music for the love of the art itself and once we could play a bit, we loved it for the performing too. We love to play live because we love music and we love to watch other people like you love it with us. Music is powerful and we want to make sure you enjoy us or any wedding band you book to the fullest. That’s why in our series of free guides designed to help and inform you, we picked “what to look for in a wedding band” as the first one.

Even though this article speaks from years of experience, some of our advice may put you off booking with us but we don’t mind, we are happier knowing you have the information and knowledge to make the right decision for you when it comes to booking a live band for your wedding.

We hold our hands up, we do use the way we advertise and run live acts as examples in some of the topics below so you could class that as a bit of shameless plugging. Sorry!

Choosing someone to photograph the most important day of your life is a daunting task. Search through Google and everyone has a fancy website and the social media accounts all full of beautiful images. How on earth do you make a decision?

You will only know which photographer is right to capture your wedding when you meet them. The main purpose of meeting potential photographers is to make sure that you will be able to trust them and feel comfortable around them. In the digital age it is easy to send an email, but nothing beats meeting face to face. One thing we like to remind couples is that you will spend almost as much time with your photographer during your wedding day as you will with each other, so make sure you both get on with them.

You will already have questions to ask them, but is there anything technical you might need to know? Is there something that will mean your images are better protected?

Hello beautiful! I hope you’re having the most wonderful week. I’ve been super busy with my calligraphy pens recently, dreaming up something which many of you have asked me about – and I’m thrilled to say my online calligraphy workshop is finally here!! Wherever you are in the country, you can now learn calligraphy for your wedding from the comfort of your own home 🙂

The workshop is based around 6 video tutorials of calligraphy demonstrations, tips and advice. Each video is around 5-10 minutes long.

Every week you’ll receive a new video, which comes with practice worksheets for you to print. In 3 weeks you’ll learn how to write a pretty modern alphabet – enough to design your own wedding invitations, address envelopes and write place name tags.

By the end of the 6 week workshop you will know how to write a beautiful modern calligraphy script with a traditional dip pen. You’ll be ready to develop your own lettering style, and you’ll be writing and framing your calligraphy quotes to hang on your walls!

Today you get to see one of the loveliest weddings to grace my inbox this year. The ideas are wonderful; the craftsmanship fabulous on so many levels. Gorgeous bride Emma made her own dress and corset – she looks amazing and I love her style! I love the flowers, the way the venue looks, the bar(!) – how cool does that look?! – and Peter and Emma are just perfect together.

Peter designed all our wedding stationery using the Adobe Creative Suite then had it printed through Printed.com. He did a fantastic job, it was very personal to us and very reasonably priced.

There’s something very, very special about letterpress. It’s the way you’re drawn to touch what your eyes are drinking in; the way foil print catches the light; the luscious thick cards and striking colours. As a calligrapher it’s one of my very favourite things…

Today I wanted to show you a few suites by Cotton Letterpress. These guys have a fabulous eye for design: their stationery is exquisitely styled and beautifully produced (I know this: I’ve had the pleasure of adding a little handwritten calligraphy to their invites and envelopes and I loved every second.)

Cotton Letterpress use vintage 1950s presses to create their striking, unique and luxurious wedding stationery.

They’ve just launched their new website and new collections which include a wide variety of themes and styles.

You can choose your own colours for each design (and experiment with how it looks online – trust me; this is so much fun!), and make the most of their online quote builder to easily see how much your wedding stationery will come to.

There are few wedding venues so unique, characterful and charming as Launcells Barton. I’ve refused offers of blog sponsorship from the likes of One Marylebone in London simply because they don’t have that special, intimate atmosphere I fall in love with. The venues I fall head over heels for are those where you’ll instantly feel at home, welcomed and encouraged to create a wedding which reflects your personalities and charms the socks off your guests.

Launcells Barton is one of those very special places which has made it onto the English Wedding Blog’s recommended supplier list. I found a lovely article about the venue which I wanted to share with you today – so grab a cuppa, and come and join me in exploring this wonderful wedding venue in Cornwall.

6 reasons to fall in love with Launcells Barton, Cornwall’s new favourite wedding venue

1. You’ll be marrying in a family-owned, Grade II listed English country house. The same family have owned the house for more than 70 years, restoring it with the care and affection such a beautiful place deserves – and they’ll welcome you and your guests into their unique and magnificent home.

As every newlywed couple will concur, your wedding day passes by in the blink of an eye. One minute you’re waking up at the crack of dawn waiting for the arrival of your hairdresser and before you know it, it’s midnight, your feet hurt from dancing, your guests are leaving and your day is over. There’s nothing you can do to slow down time but there is one very important thing you can do to ensure that you get the most out of your day. Create a wedding day timeline.

It’s probably not the most exciting bit of wedding planning you’re ever going to do. But trust me – it can make the difference between a wonderful wedding day, where you get chance to speak to all your guests, see all your hard work come to fruition, spend time with your new spouse and get the photographs you want.  The alternative?  You wing it. You set a time for your ceremony and hope everything else falls into place.  Your wedding suppliers run around like headless chickens all working to different timescales. The makeup artists doesn’t have enough time to finish your bridesmaids, you’re late to church, your photographer doesn’t get the chance to get the images you’ve asked for, the wedding breakfast is served late, your guests are hungry and bored. You feel rushed and stressed on what should be the happiest day of your life.

Tis the season (as they say) for cosy snuggles and warm fires… and for staying indoors on those long evenings in the company of friends and loved ones. And I guess this applies just as much to weddings as it does to winter evenings at home. For Deborah and Mark, their winter wedding meant choosing the right venue was paramount. And boy, did they get it right…

The New Forest is a wondrous place with sprawling heathlands, magical ancient woodlands and picturesque English villages that make it a special setting. Getting married in such an idyllic location where there are endless opportunities for a gorgeous photograph of the bride and groom is a no-brainer. It’s no wonder the New Forest takes centre stage in this stunning elopement shoot by the fabulous Nisha Haq Photography.

The small towns and villages have a quintessentially English feel with quaint tea rooms and walkways with beautiful New Forest ponies grazing close by. Who wouldn’t want a wedding with ponies in the background of your bridal shots?

For each location in the New Forest, the bride wears a different wedding dress as each dress has its own character that compliments the scenery. All dresses are from the high-street (sourced from ASOS) with the groom’s suit from Moss Bros and it goes to show how easy it can be to get a stunning wedding outfit especially for a low-key style wedding.

I love this wedding, the blues, the pretty bouquet and all of the wonderful handmade touches. Rachel and Damian are a gorgeous couple – and then there’s the venue. Oh, my word – what a fabulous space to celebrate in!!

“We were incredibly fortunate that a family friend, who lives next door to the church we got married in, offered her garden and barns to us. It was such a naturally beautiful and down-to-earth space that we knew without looking anywhere else that it was the place for us. We had the meal in an open barn and then the evening dancing and drinks were opposite in the old barn and marquees. It was very open to the elements and in the whole month leading up to the wedding it was incredibly wet and windy so there were lots of weather-proofing and contingency discussions but in the end we were very lucky with the weather!”

Today’s wedding is breathtaking. The venue is amazing – I love all the statues in the background, especially in the wedding breakfast room. Oh and of course Stephanie is soooo beautiful (there’s an incredible shot of her on the stairs which took my breath away!) and Ludovic looks brilliant. I love it, all of it!

The Ashmolean Museum is an awe-inspiring setting – you won’t find a room like this for your wedding reception anywhere else. The statues are an amazing talking point and create real atmosphere – you won’t need to hang bunting or add any decor of your own if you celebrate here! I love it!
