A quickie wedding blog post for this afternoon, as I sit huddled in my cardie, fingers chillin’ and waiting for sunshine! I’ve picked my winner for the Wedding Cupcakes book this morning – better late than never… Faye is the lucky winner of my competition and her book will be sent in the post very soon.

Congratulations Faye!

If you missed my wedding cupcakes book review, you really should read it. I’m a natural baker* as well as being reasonable about writing my little wedding blog.

If you’re an author or publisher, please send me your wedding related books to review** and give to my readers as prizes. I promise I’ll try really hard to do them justice. I love reviewing wedding books.

the wedding institute new wedding fairs (23)
Another treat directly from my inbox today… The Wedding Institute. This one’s for the ladies (loving the acronym the W.I. there!) – a project created by the lovely wedding stationer Vicky Trainor and photographer Becky Mitchell, both established national and regional businesses in the creative and wedding market.

Vicky’s email had me smiling from the start. “It’s grim up north”, she said. Looking out of my window this morning I have to agree… and yet the “do like to be beside the seaside” feel of the postcard Vicky sent to introduce The Wedding Institute makes me feel quite fond of my northern roots…
the wedding institute new wedding fairs (22)Over to Vicky to tell you what The Wedding Institute is all about and how YOU can get involved with one of their wonderful events…

“In January this year an exciting photo shoot took place in an old manor house in the coastal town of Saltburn by the Sea. A shoot that was to bring together a wealth of creative suppliers who work in the wedding industry, all from the North East/North Yorkshire area, all designers and specialists with a passion for working in creative and interesting ways.

It’s also a hell of a lot of fun.

I watched, intrigued, as my two friends, together with the fabulous Chris Hanley Photography, devised a shoot which would explore the very core of their two brands.

Joanne and Nia’s willingness to let their hair down and play was just brilliant. The shoot they dreamed up looks right into the heart of their businesses, painting Vintage Twee in eccentric perfectionism and playing with Nia Fiori’s love of burlesque and fine art.

I love their promo shoot, which for me puts a whole new light on promoting a brand image.

Exactly six months today I will be walking down the aisle to Mr Moore. My reaction to this fact reminds me of my daily experience of getting ready for work.  One minute I’m luxuriating in the bath with what seems like heaps of time to spare and then, before you can say ‘Mrs Moore-to-be’, I find myself racing around the flat, frantically searching for my keys/purse/gloves in ‘Challenge Anneka’ kind of a way.

Our cuckoo clock - home of Heidi

Before I reach that point of complete panic there is, however, an interim stage when I hear Heidi, the cuckoo who lives in our clock, striking the hour.  At that point, I become aware of the need to accelerate my progress towards the front door so that I can exit in time to catch the train without having to run all the way to the station.

Heidi at the door of her house

Just as Heidi’s cuckooing reminds me that I can dither no longer about heels vs flats or a skirt vs a dress, waking up this morning and realising that we’ve entered the six-month countdown period has made me realise that I need stop prevaricating about such knotty nuptial issues as the choice of wedding breakfast menu and typeface on the invitations and make some decisions. I know it shouldn’t be that hard.  But it is and if you’ll click this way to I’ll share with you the reason for my vacillation.

Wendy Bell invitations at the Luxury Wedding Show (13)
Only three weeks ago I was wistfully telling my friend and sponsor Wendy Bell how I’d love to go to The Luxury Wedding Show – if only all the events weren’t so far away from my little base in Cheshire (I know, pitiful isn’t it…)

The Luxury Wedding Show seems to have cornered a niche in the UK wedding market – and not only that, there’s a wonderfully voyeuristic appeal too. From gorgeous designer wedding invitations to flowers and cakes, decor and more – it’s great to see the best in the UK wedding industry. Even if you’re not splashing out on a luxury wedding, wouldn’t it be fun to go and look around anyway, see what the more extravagant brides are buying? I know I’d love to see these shows from a wedding supplier’s point of view as well.

The Luxury Wedding Show: Show and Tell!

So Wendy very kindly said she’d do a little show and tell after the Luxury Wedding Show in London on the 25th of March. I have photos, commentary… it’s all here! Wendy gives a great insight into what the Luxury Wedding Shows are all about – I hope you find it as fascinating as I did!

Just a dinky little wedding blog for you this morning as I work behind the scenes on various thoughts and future blog posts –  and dinky it is indeed. Here’s something very, very different… Prince William and Kate Middleton made out of paper for starters:

Unique wedding cake topper from Me, Myself & Te™

They’re the craziest wedding cake toppers I’ve ever seen – beautifully made, definitely a talking point, and wonderfully different. I only wish I had a fraction of the talent of their creator, Collette Te.

These cake toppers are from Me, Myself & Te™. Designer Collette says, “each item is personalized and 100% handmade from JUST ‘paper’. Me, Myself & Te™ was created for those who think outside the box, couples who are looking for wedding toppers & decorations that reflect their personalities making their special day stand out from the crowd.”

UK wedding blog photo (30)I hope you’re wrapped up all snuggly and warm this morning – not only is it freezing outside, I also have a January wedding to share with you today. Joanna and Angus got married at Kingscote Barn in Gloucestershire at the beginning of the year; a day full of romance, shared glances and elegant, individual style. Joanna’s wedding dress and jacket are gorgeous; Angus looks the part in top hat and tails. I adore the bridesmaids’ capes (want one!) – as soon as they caught my eye, I wanted this particularly wonderful wedding to show you on English Wedding blog.

Joanna’s wedding report is fabulous. Her advice is great: “Decide what you care about and plan, plan, plan. Then on the day: Relax.” There’s more – but I’ll leave Joanna to tell her wedding story in her own words.

Win my copy of Wedding Cupcakes - the book by Joanna Farrow

Despite my misadventures from the day I killed wedding cupcakes, this book comes highly recommended for any couple considering DIY cupcakes for their wedding. There might be a tiny bit of icing sugar on the pages (not much; I ate most of it) but there’s no gin on there, I promise 🙂

To win your copy, answer this simple question in the comments form below. A winner will be picked from the correct answers at random. You must provide a valid email address and check it next week to see if you’ve won!

Definitely not work. Friday afternoon, are we all gazing wistfully outside at the last vestiges of sunshine as the brightness fades just in time for the weekend? Ah well. Ideally we’d be sat outside a little pavement cafe in a little out-of-the-way place or people-watching outside a bar in the city centre – neither planning weddings or working, while the sunshine lasts!

Here’s a quick weekly round up of my favourite bits of wedding blog. Enjoy – and have a gorgeous weekend.

We’ve had such beautiful weather recently, and many of you have had your engagement shoots over recent weeks. Two of my favourites from the English Wedding Showcase are a world of contrasts: from glorious spring sunshine to dramatic twilight…

True love: engagement photography by Martin Beddall on the English Wedding Showcase

Above: Heidi and Toby’s Kent engagement shoot with wedding photographer Martin Beddall – beautifully sunny and light, although Martin introduced it on the English Wedding Blog with the words “probably means more snow soon”. Thanks Martin!

Below: Mark and Erin’s engagement shoot near Warrington – a clear evening with deliciously blue skies. I love their feet in this picture! And the blue is dreamy and so romantic. By McAvoy Photography.

Romance at twilight: engagement photography by McAvoy Photography on the English Wedding Showcase

I don’t feature engagement or pre-wedding photography very often on English Wedding Blog, but there have been some beautiful shoots from my wedding photographer sponsors on the Showcase recently, and I urge you to go and have a look if you’re planning or considering an engagement shoot of your own.
