I was having a fascinating – albeit brief – discussion with a wedding photographer the other week. It was one of those discussions which I could have carried on for hours, sadly cut short by distance and time… email’s not as easy as a proper chat after all. BUT it got me thinking and I haven’t been able to put this one down.

We had a lot in common. Let me begin with photography: I said something about “a ‘bloggy’ image – something crafty or a portrait with flare from the sun” – one kind of image I have a total weakness for. He was quick to reply with a positive comment about making images interesting and enticing for blog readers, but told me “flare from the sun is technically inept photography“. I never knew… although it does make sense, in a way.

Hey lovely! It’s been the most amazing summer already and time has flown here – I’ve been ever so excited to show you a styled bridal shoot from a few weeks ago, one which really spoke to my creative side and taught me so much about wedding styling.

Styled shoots are one of my favourite things about being a wedding blogger. My friends who are planning their weddings love them too: they inspire our blogs, fire our creative sides and get us hooked on Pinterestand in so doing they quietly sow the seeds for real weddings.

Have you ever seen a bouquet you just love, Pinned it and then discovered it was from a styled shoot with dozens and dozens more ideas to steal your heart? I have… it happens all the time with wedding blog features and I think wedding photographers, stylists and designers are the best for having the vision to create new and exciting shoots all the time.

I dream of the days I spent living and working in Italy. The long, sunny evenings and romantic train rides through lush countryside feel like a dream now – and so when I see an Italian wedding I can’t resist the glorious romance of it all.

Hey everyone! What a week it’s turning out to be… after a weekend of adventures and escapades with all of my favourite peope I’m settling down with a hot chocolate and a cookie to share some really great features on the English Wedding Blog this week. First off, I’m truly delighted to introduce you to lovely Steven Dungate, aka Duntons Photography.

You’ll remember Steven from Emma and Matthew’s church hall wedding on Saturday – his images of their day were just divine. Now I’d like to introduce you to the man behind the camera: a wedding photographer based in Kent, working in London, Sussex and beyond. Steven says, “I am passionate about capturing those special milestones that serve as the bookmarks to the stories of our lives. I pride myself on my unobtrusive approach to photography and believe this is the only way to capture an image 100% truthfully to the moment it was taken in.

There are too many things I love best about today’s gorgeous couple Samantha and Lee: the fact they found out the day before the wedding that Samantha was pregnant (wow!); their budget advice to simply “blow it!” and the beautiful, enchanting images of their day by my friend Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography.

Merewood hotel Windermere wedding (18)

The venue is wonderful (and not far from English Wedding Blog Towers!) with views over Lake Windermere; a little boy almost steals the show with his hobby horse (adorable!) and the entertainers clearly had everyone enthralled.

With huge thanks to today’s very beautiful bride and groom, Samantha and Lee, and to Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography for sharing his images with us all. You’ll love them.

With some of the loveliest weddings I’ve seen this summer appearing in rapid succession on his fabulous blog, Somerset wedding photographer Simon Biffen is setting an amazing standard for wedding photography. Today, a sneak peek from Tors and Mike’s beautiful wedding at home on the farm…

Somerset wedding photography (1)
Somerset wedding photography (2) I adore how they’ve styled their day with soft pinks and subtle colours: the cake is awesome, the roses lush and the cows an unexpected surprise!
Somerset wedding photography (3) www.simonbiffenphotography.co.uk
Somerset wedding photography (4) Simon loved photographing this Somerset wedding with “the incredible Tors and Mike. A beautiful couple whose family farm hosted the celebrations in Somerset. Farm weddings are always a blast, maybe it’s the fresh air that gets everyone in the mood, that or perhaps it’s the barrels of cider and ale on tap! Either way these two were amazing.”

Transforming a simple village or church hall into a festive and pretty party venue takes ambition, style and vision! Emma and Matthew, along with a small army of family and friends, did a lovely job and their spring wedding at All Saints Church in Crowborough, East Sussex looks wonderful.

Bride Emma is ever so beautiful – her portraits by wedding photographer Steven Dungate, of Duntons Photography, are gorgeous. She positively glows when joined by her new husband Matthew: a radiant couple so clearly full of love.

The images are fabulous; the wedding report by Emma and Matthew is brilliant, and full of advice to help you design and style a church hall wedding. Here is a couple after my own heart: they kept their wedding budget to a minimum (including a dress for less than £100) and indulged in excellent catering and an amazing party!

Do join me for a peek into my little design studio this morning as I show you sketches and the final design for my new watercolour flowers wedding invitation collection. I’m absolutely delighted with the finished suite – it’s vibrant and fun, and the clematis flower has totally stolen my heart! Instagram friends will have seen this already, and as I write I’ve yet to pop it onto shelves in my Etsy shop – but it will be there very soon! Prices from £4 per invitation…

I’ll begin with the finished collection, then show you every step of the way as I made the designs. From sketching to painting to printing, the design process was a little over a full day’s work, and one where I finished happily covered in purple ink (and went for a walk on the beach wearing it!) Enjoy!

What happened to your wedding venue in the 1940s? You could be treading in the footsteps of a wartime bride, or even on a film set… as is the case with Yorkshire’s magnificent Denton Hall. In 1942 the venue became a location for filming a romantic war film about a soldier’s story of love lost – and has a romance and sense of nostalgia which should be cherished.

1940s wedding ideas (11)

In May, I was asked to contribute some calligraphy to a styled shoot at Denton Hall. Wedding photographer Suzy Mitchell and make-up artist Annabel Bailey styled a fabulous 1940s inspired shoot which took place in the grounds and rooms of the venue.

1940s wedding ideas (9)

Annabel’s Grandfather fought in the second world war, and his uniforms were worn by the ‘groom’ in today’s styled shoot. The bride wears a vintage dress from York’s Glory Days Vintage, and after the wedding I adore the images where for me, the simpler dresses are just as gorgeous as the bridal gown.
