Today is a bit of a treat for me, and for you too I hope! I have a wonderfully chic London wedding to show you, with a Caroline Castigliano designer dress, images by the amazing Blake Ezra Photography and one of my favourite London venues: the ICA.

Michelle is the most beautifully elegant bride, fabulous in her beautifully designed dress from Les Trois Soeurs London boutique. Her flowers were very simple red roses, matching Matthew’s buttonhole on his elegant Mr. Start suit. They’re the most amazing couple… I’m thrilled to be sharing their day with you!

The images are out of this world. Wedding photographer Blake Ezra is one of the best – his intuitive approach and understanding of weddings is second to none; his images have an indefinable magic to them… as Michelle and Matthew told me in their blog interview (at the end of the feature) they capture the day perfectly.

When I met with Kent wedding photographer Benjamin Toms in February I don’t think he realised how many feature articles we’d talked through… but I left the little coffee shop so full of ideas and advice to share with you, this is already the fifth in our little series!

What makes a wedding unique? Relationships and magical moments. with Benjamin Toms (5)

It’s a funny thing how every couple can feel pressured into having a ‘unique’ wedding… and the wedding media encourages brides and grooms to discover original suppliers, to craft personal and quirky décor, and to buy, design or make unique things.

Cue a bit of a revelation when Ben explained his perspective on exactly what makes a wedding unique. The answer wasn’t what I expected at all.

Could documentary wedding photography be the secret?

Documentary wedding photography is, as you probably know, telling the story of a wedding through emotions and moments. It’s not a factual timeline of your wedding, but a visual memory of the moments which will really let you relive your day for years to come.

I woke up this morning in the bridal suite of the most luxurious Lake District wedding venue, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world! I haven’t suddenly got married(!) and neither have I eloped… although if I did, this is most definitely where you’d find me.

Sharrow Bay Lake District wedding venue for exclusive hire (6)

The beautiful world of Sharrow Bay

Sharrow Bay is England’s very own luxury destination wedding venue. Couples travel a very long way to visit and to be married here – and yet Sharrow Bay is only a short drive from the English Wedding Blog HQ. I live on the edge of the Lake District which Sharrow Bay calls home.

www.sharrowbay.co.uk

So I haven’t eloped, and this wasn’t a surprise wedding… why was I there? I was invited to Sharrow Bay so I could tell you lovely readers all about it. For once though I’m almost lost for words… this was the treat of a lifetime.

Imagine your dream wedding venue, and then imagine if it was a thousand times more spectacular, welcoming and luxurious than that. That’s Sharrow Bay.

Morning lovely!! Do you mind if I distract you for a few minutes with rather a lot of wonderfully homemade wedding ideas? Good 🙂 Because Katherine and Ben’s wedding in Cornwall is about to knock your socks off… it’s so creative!

Now, wedding blogs are invariably the prettiest thing on the internet… but we’re not all about how weddings look. We like to share great advice and tips, and in today’s English Wedding Blog interview beautiful bride Katherine has some wise advice for other DIY brides and grooms: “A do it yourself wedding may seem cheaper than a hotel wedding, but remember that you will have to provide everything from tables and tablecloths to glasses and all of the drinks. The costs add up, so you have to be willing to shop around for the best deals and to spend the time organising every detail yourself!

That said… this is pretty awesome! Katherine’s Mum made unique invitations for every guest with pressed flowers. The DIY details on the day were fab: Katherine’s table plan, all of the jars and vases, the lanterns, pom poms, bunting and crochet were all home made with love.

Elegance doesn’t have to be opulent: the most beautiful weddings can be those where simple touches are creatively curated to make a pretty, understated but effective style. Recently I featured a very richly styled shoot from Waddesdon Manor – the overall look was pure elegance but some of you felt it was financially unachievable… so today I have something especially for all you looking for elegance on a tighter budget.

Elegant bridal style shoot Pistacho Photography Artist Residence London (2)

Affordable elegance: creating elegant style without the cost

Today’s styled shoot is more about affordable elegance. The secret is to spend on a few key details: the dress, accessories, stationery and a bouquet in this case.

Favours, cakes, cars and other details are optional.

Consider your venue carefully too: Those ‘per head’ costs can be astronomical, and there are so many options these days for alternative reception venues.

I’ve featured several weddings on the blog where couples enquired at a venue which had never held a wedding before… and ended up holding their dream weddings there!

Sometimes I feel incredibly spoilt… I’m treated to the most amazing, ridiculously gorgeous real weddings and photography imaginable and I get to spend my days sharing them with you. Today is no exception, and I have another favourite wedding of the year – already – to show you. Grab a coffee and settle down for this one, it’s exquisite.

Botanical Gardens and Chimney House Sheffield UK wedding by Tierney Photography (27)

Colette and Scott were married at Sheffield Botanical Gardens. It’s one of those venues which is unique and so full of history: a Grade II listed pavilion and incredible place to be married. Their reception is just as impressive: Sheffield’s industrial Chimney House… which I’ll leave you to discover through the glorious images below.

Colette is knock-me-down-with-a-feather beautiful – a super sophisticated bride in a timelessly elegant gown. Scott’s her perfect match and there are such lovely images of them both here today – which brings me to their awesome photographer Mark Tierney. Mark is based in Sheffield and you can check out more weddings by Tierney Photography and get in touch at:

I love a creative bride and groom, I really really do! Jenny and Louie are the best of blog stars today with a fabulously creative wedding from Ufton Court Barn.

Jenny’s dress is by Chanticleer, and it’s beautiful. She’s a stunning bride and Louie’s her equally gorgeous other half. Don’t you just adore that flower crown?

The portraits from their day are some of my favourites: Ufton Court is a pretty special venue and one I’ve never featured before on the English Wedding Blog. I’m thrilled to be able to show you around it (virtually hehe) today!

Deciding not to have any particular theme, Louie and Jenny chose things they loved to add personality to their day: the Monopoly table plan is a highlight and the flowers are fabulous as well.

Alexandra and Daniel’s wedding has style and flair, and a pretty creative and elegant theme: postwar sweethearts. It’s lovely – the bride and groom look gorgeous and guests arrived in costume to add more flavour and spirit to the day!

I was thrilled when photographer Damian Burcher got in touch to share this wedding – it’s unique and sure to give lots of you some fab ideas for your day. Little touches like the kraft paper identity cards and the peonies and freesias in Alexandra’s bouquet make today’s wedding blog really pretty.

I love this advice from beautiful Shani: “You do not need to spend huge amounts of money to have a lovely wedding. Simplicity is often the best route.” This is oh so true – and the proof is in the wonderful images of Shani and Tim’s gorgeous homemade Kent wedding which I’m proud to feature on the English Wedding Blog today.

Homegrown flowers for a rustic wedding blog with White Stag Photography (35)

Everything here is homemade with love and shows just what you can achieve if you really enjoy being crafty and making things – as Shani so clearly does. There’s more though – and green fingered brides should take note: the flowers are divine and all home grown. Shani is a talented florist and what I love most of all is that today’s fabulous couple planted and grew over 300 plants from seed for their wedding day. Wow.

From the glorious venue to the comfy, cool footwear and dress-changing bridesmaids, this is a wedding whose quirks are subtle and fun. Ally and Sarah had a relaxed day at Menzies Welcombe Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon and I know you’ll love hearing about their wedding.

There wasn’t a theme for the day, but what stands out to me is that this is a no-fuss, no-fluff sort of wedding. It’s elegant and personal with a focus on just a few pretty key details: the flowers, the location, and our gorgeous bride and groom.

If you’re a regular wedding blog reader you might think group shots are a thing of the past… but they’re as important today as they ever were. Your wedding day will be the one day of your lives when all of your friends and family are together – just for the two of you – and that’s such a special thing for every bride and groom.

Contemporary wedding photography and group shots, with Benjamin Toms (2)

I asked my lovely blog friend (and super fabulous Kent wedding photographer) Benjamin Toms if he had any advice or tips about group shots, and he had some really useful ideas to share.

By Benjamin Toms

Traditional group shots can almost be thought of as being for our parents’ generation. When up to 80% of parents still pay a generous chunk of the wedding budget, this makes group shots even more important. It’s a rare occasion when all the family comes together, and so we want to preserve and treasure those memories.
