Speculative weather, incredible vibes and stunning music. Festival season is something we all go mad for and it has sewn its way into the ever growing tapestry of British pop culture. Festival themed weddings or ‘wedstivals’ are no surprise then as couples strive to recreate that festival atmosphere on their big day.

Guest article by Joey Burdon of Warble Entertainment

Live music is one of the main staples of a good festival wedding. It’s all about the entertainment and making sure that everyone has a good time! Here are 5 of the best Rock & Pop bands available for your festival themed wedding this summer.

Gentlemen Of The Road

This Surrey quartet can be described as the perfect festival wedding band. Treading the line between festival favourites Mumford & Sons and big rock anthems from bands like The Killers and Kings Of Leon, Gentlemen Of The Road are ideal for bringing that festival fever to your day.

Happy Monday everyone! I thought we’d kick off this week with a really special wedding – one with the loveliest personal touches and a gorgeous bride and groom, in not-so-sunny Cornwall! Proof if ever it was needed that rain won’t spoil your wedding – because the memories captured and the landscape and styling of Chris and Lorna’s day are all so beautiful.

It was forecast to rain all day for Lorna and Chris’ wedding in Cornwall which was a bit of a worry for me as the photographer as well for the couple, but we must have been in a ‘magic pocket’ as the heavy rain turned into slight drizzle for a few hours just when we left St Sampson’s church after the ceremony to head to The Green for the reception and photos. The venue was only a few miles from where Lorna spent her childhood and she loved the familiar scenery. Although the setting was countryside, Lorna and Chris wanted to incorporate a few personal touches related to their connections to sailing- they both wore their sailing boots for the photos in the field. As the weather was very unpredictable Lorna’s mother’s parasol which she had on her wedding day came to good use!

Kat and Ben are the sweetest couple – and look amazing on their day! The sunset shots are breathtaking, the little details of their day are wonderful and their venue, Devon’s Rockbeare Manor, is incredible.

“The first time I tried on my wedding dress was at the South West Bridal Show. I was with my mum, one of my bridesmaids and her mum and had walked around the show with nothing catching my eye until I picked out a dress which I loved for its unusual cut around the neckline. There weren’t any changing rooms at this particular stand so before I knew it, I was huddled in the corner trying this dress on. As it was the first wedding dress i’d ever tried on, I made arrangements to try on others at a later date as I wasn’t sure if our reaction to it was just because it was the first one I tried. Nothing else came close though and I soon purchased the dress.

This space is the most amazing I’ve seen in a long time – a blank canvas wedding venue in a league all of its own. Gorgeous Nicole & Samuel were married at The Winding House in June, styled their day with elegance and simple homemade touches, and chose lovely Kerry Ann Duffy as their wedding photographer.

“Our venue was such a unique building with its painted white bricks, vintage wood and green trees and banks. THE perfect location and back drop for our wedding. The ridiculously high ceilings made the ceremony feel chapel like which was amazing. Especially with our music playing during the ceremony. The owners Vicki and Paul would do anything for you and go above and beyond to help achieve the best day.

I made bunting galore, so easy and enjoyable to make. I made the table plan, and tree decoration that hung over the top table.
Greta at The little cake company did the most amazing job on our wedding cake, which looked and tasted great. She had so many flavours to choose from. We went fruit, lemon drizzle and banoffee for the top tier (which our dogs stole and ate off the kitchen side post wedding)[!]

I hope you fall in love with today’s wedding! The florals were one thing which I fell in love as soon as I saw gorgeous bride Lorna and hubby Ryan’s beautiful images – the signage is fab (best use of an old pallet, ever!) – and the venue is spectacular. (Check out those shots taken from a distance, within Leez Priory’s breathtaking gardens – Lorna told me that was an amazing part of their day.)

“I used a small florist called ‘Poppydots‘. I actually discovered her at a wedding fair and she was brilliant as well as being reasonably priced. My color scheme was lilac grey, cream and blush pink. I wanted a wild feel to my flowers so nothing too structured. Sophie (my florist) used a lot of foliage as well to make the flowers look less prim and give the bouquets and center pieces a more rustic feel.

Today’s beautiful floral shoot was created as an anniversary styled celebration, but I think the styling is just perfect for a wedding too! The flowers by The Wedding Fairy are so soft and colourful – they really do take centre stage. Delicate blue delphiniums, ranunculus and roses sit prettily together on tables with a colour palette of soft blues, ivory and subtle coral tones. Berried eucalyptus adds a silvery note and lovely texture, working hand in hand with dove grey and white candles in the prettiest glass holders.

It’s all captured beautifully by talented photographer Zehra Jagani at Owen House in Cheshire. Place settings are simple and delicate, with organic calligraphy from By Moon & Tide.

Chargers studded with gold, delicate mercury glass and silk napkins all add to the overall look. For me, this is all about pulling different styling elements together: glassware and candles, florals and foliage, place settings – all within a well planned colour palette so the effect is amazing.

Sometimes it’s all about the dress… and gorgeous bride Tig told us she fell in love with hers – it’s just beautiful! “I didn’t actually see my finished dress until 2 days before the wedding as I decided to change the top from a strapless style to a halter neck with only 6 weeks to spare…

The designer was amazing and completely agreed that the halter style would suit me better so was willing to adapt it though the deadline was tight. I couldn’t have been happier and adored that the colour was not your traditional ivory, white or oyster. I learnt: go with your gut!” The designer was Kula Tsurdiu, whose beautiful boutique is based in Nottingham’s brilliantly bohemian Lace Market.

The florals in today’s shoot are out of this world – totally luxurious, soft-as-candyfloss pastel shades which must just smell divine! They’re the creation of one of our favourite UK floral designers, lovely Ruth from All for Love London. If flowers are your thing, and you can afford to splurge a little on your tablescapes… then ladies and gents, this is how it’s done!

7 speeches, pretty spring florals and a Swedish twist make this wedding totally unique, beautiful and captivating. Gorgeous bride Malin wears a beautiful dress from Isabella Grace Bridal with the prettiest lace detailing – and groom Simon looks dapper in Ted Baker. I adore the florals and simple, summery colour palette and I know you will too! Images are by lovely English Wedding Directory member Damion Mower Photography, based in Buckinghamshire.

We looked for photographers online for quite a while. Damion’s portfolio really stood out for us. We also liked his documentary and personal style which really shone through on his website.

Damion was outstanding. He went above and beyond what we expected. We originally had a lower budget for a photographer and learning from friend’s mistakes in the past we opted to pay more and he was worth every penny. Right from the start he insisted on a FaceTime call to really engage and connect about our requirements. The engagement shoot went fantastically well and really built on our relationship with him so we had no doubts on our big day.

Today’s wedding is pure luxury, sheer joy and absolute beauty. Stunning bride Fern married her gorgeous groom James at Sherborne Abbey and celebrated with a beautiful reception at Brympton House in Somerset. Their day is captured by our friend and sponsor, Brympton House Wedding Photographer Martin Dabek, who is based in Somerset.

I tried on over 100 dresses and found it particularly hard to narrow the selection of styles down as I liked too many. My mum and I visited the Caroline Castigliano store in Knightsbridge and the sales assistant picked a gown I wouldn’t have chosen and the second I walked out in it, my mother had a tear to her eye. We then managed to accessorize it with the different trains, veils and belts to create the look for day and evening I was envisaging. The dress was also made to measure which was brilliant as it ensured it fitted like a glove on the day.

This time next week I’ll be on my way to sunny Manchester, pens and inks in my little bag, ready to meet lovely creative folks and teach them the basics of modern calligraphy. It’s one of my favourite things, and I’m excited already (I’ve started packing. A week early. I know!!) February’s calligraphy workshop sold out super quick, so I wanted to let you know the details for April as soon as I could!

Spring is the busiest time for my calligraphy classes – brides and grooms (and bridesmaids… and mums) choose this time of year to start practising their writing in readiness for designing wedding invitations to send before the summer kicks in. Handcrafted is still a great cost-saving option for crafty brides, and calligraphy is so on trend for 2018! Also, learning how to write beautiful modern calligraphy is a skill you’ll keep and use for life…
