Morning everyone! A little advice for you this morning, especially if you’re a little bit addicted to Facebook or Pinterest… it can’t just be me, can it?! How will you feel on your wedding day without your smart phone? Or should you bring it, along with your iPad, because you’ll need it on the day? All the answers are here – enjoy. I hope it’s useful! For the tech-savvy couples of today there are hundreds of digital tools to track, share and tag just about every element of your special day. Whatever you want your wedding day to be, when it comes to technology etiquette for the big day, there are some dos and don’ts to follow to capture the memorable moments and avoid any digital faux pas.

Morning lovely people! Wherever you are in the country this morning, please stay safe and warm. I’m thinking of all of you who in the south – we’ve escaped the gales up here in the Lakes but I know from my friends around London and Exeter it’s pretty scary down there. Anyway – I couldn’t resist sharing a few sneak peeks of Carina and Henry’s Derbyshire wedding a little while ago, and I’m over the moon to be able to begin this week on a high with such an amazing celebration. You’re going to adore this!

The images are by my lovely new sponsor Rik Pennington Photography (more about him later!) and they are just wonderful. I really think they capture the atmosphere of today’s wedding and I’d love to hear from you today too – leave a comment for the gorgeous bride and groom, or for Rik or just say hi! The comments box at the end of the post is there especially for you and I love hearing from my wonderful readers.

So I poked a little fun at the marketing team for Sharpie markers recently, when they sent out a press release telling me that marker pens were a perfect match for weddings. Maybe it was a little bit mean… they didn’t know I was a wedding calligrapher… and my choice of pen is a little more refined, traditional and elegant.

calligraphy and markers review (1)

My Sharpie marker story continues…

Rebecca Williams got in touch with me straight away after reading my post Bad wedding marketing from Sharpie marker pens – “As the director of the Sharpie PR account, I couldn’t help but notice your blog about our wedding press release. While you’re absolutely entitled to your opinion (and you’re right, Sharpies are not to be used for calligraphy) we’d love to change your mind about them being a fat marker pen.  With this in mind, I’d like to send you our standard Fine Point range, along with some of our Ultra Fine markers, for you to use in your own time.”

Most of the weddings I share on the blog have an element of DIY to them these days: invites, flowers, cakes or reception stationery being top choices for a bit of home made wedding crafting.

But equally, most of my lovely readers will buy some of these things from established wedding suppliers. And that’s fine! It makes perfect sense to balance your time so you’re not spending every weekend in the months before your wedding covered in glitter and glue.

Sometimes it seems as though wedding blogs focus on DIY a little too much, especially when it comes to invitations and stationery. Home made is fine, and if you know what you’re doing it can look great… but it’s not always as easy as it first seems.

Kate and Scott’s wedding at Somerford Hall was a real family affair, with everyone helping create a beautiful and personal celebration for this gorgeous couple. I loved reading about it on their photographer Andrew Ward‘s blog and couldn’t resist sharing their big day with you all on the English Wedding Blog.
Somerford Hall wedding blog (15) Somerford Hall is an 18th century mansion house in Staffordshire, with the most beautiful landscaped gardens and spectacular scenery. Kate told me it didn’t need very much decoration at all – naturally – and so everyone’s creative efforts were focused on table decorations, favours and even the wedding cake which Kate’s dad made from start to finish!

Kate’s dress is Constantine by Ian Stuart – and she wears it beautifully. Scott and the rest of the guys wear yellow buttonholes and socks which tie in with the theme of the day – a lovely sunny yellow. Just the perfect wedding to grace our screens on this chilly October day, I think!

Never before have I seen a groom so obviously and completely enchanted with his bride. You absolutely have to watch this romantic and captivating Northbrook Park wedding film by my lovely wedding blog sponsors Deneemotion – it will melt your heart.

There’s so much to tell you about this beautiful wedding: I adore the jars of wildflowers and sunflowers tied to chairs with raffia – perfect for Fran and Daniel’s outdoor ceremony. Fran looks incredible in her dress with lace back detailing (from Marshmallow Bride) – and the guys are rocking quirky football skullcaps which make me smile. There are tiny hanging lanterns in trees, jam jars and flowers by the dozen on wedding tables and so many more inspiring details. Then there’s the KISS – not to be missed.

This is such a beautiful wedding – I love anything with a personal touch as I’m sure you know by now! Today’s stunning bride Katy and gorgeous groom Tom styled their country house wedding with a nod to their local history and delicate touches inspired by Staffordshire pottery.

Their wedding photographers, lovely Rob and Sarah Gillespie, have a wonderful eye for detail and captured the most precious moments and lovingly crafted details so well. Every image I’ve chosen to show you of Katy and Tom’s beautiful Staffordshire country house wedding will delight your pretty eyes, I’m sure!

Cornwall’s Eden Project is a pretty special venue for a wedding, and with the grandest of eco-friendly and charitable intentions, it’s a pretty cool venue to choose as well. Betzy and James had a gorgeous, eco-chic and unique Eden Project wedding with some glorious details I’ve been excited to show you!

Eden Project wedding blog photography by Jason Mark Harris (10)

Their wedding photographer, lovely Jason Mark Harris, submitted their beautiful wedding a week or two ago, and the beautiful bride and groom have very kindly shared their wedding report with us all today. My three favourite things: Betzy’s stunning wedding dress by David Western Bridal (the back detailing is exquisite!), their Choccywoccydoodah cake (always a winner!) and the overall atmosphere of their incredible day. I’d love to see more eco-chic weddings on the blog… so if that’s you too, do get in touch!

For today though, I hope (well, I kind of already know) you’ll enjoy seeing all the lovely images of James and Betzy’s Eden Project wedding. Leave a comment if you have a sec! Claire xxx

I had the loveliest phone call last week from a lady called Belinda, who asked me if I would tell you a little about her fingerprint wedding rings. A crafter and small wedding business owner just like me, Belinda’s story struck a chord with me so I had a look at her website and loved what she does!

By their very nature, fingerprint wedding rings are unique to you and your other half – and they look beautiful too.

Belinda can work in any metal for your perfect wedding band including platinum, gold and also the great new metal palladium. B Jewellery will make a ring that can be designed by you and handmade by an expert. Belinda told me nothing gives her greater pleasure than knowing that every piece of jewellery made by B jewellery will give years of pleasure to the owner.

Isn’t that the loveliest sentiment? Do visit the official website at www.b-jewellery.co.uk to see lots more (the silver feather earrings are ever so special! My faves 🙂

Morning everyone! Today’s blog is written especially for brides and grooms in Bristol, London, the South West… oh and the rest of England and Wales too! I’m delighted to be introducing one of my brand new sponsors, the lovely Bristol wedding photographer Joseph Hall, to you today.

Bristol wedding photographer Joseph Hall (4)

Joseph joins my list of recommended wedding suppliers on the English Wedding Blog and will be sharing some real weddings with us very soon! He’s had two weddings featured on the blog already though: first came Kristy and Jamie’s stunning Clevedon Hall wedding – which I featured in December 2012. Then we shared Simon and Gemma’s elegant Bristol wedding with a glorious touch of art deco on the blog. Both beautiful weddings and with such romantic wedding photography – do have a look, I know you’ll love them both!

Hi everyone! Please tell me I’m not the only one thinking naughty festive thoughts already? I’ve been making plans for little Christmas baskets with calligraphy tags and labels – and in the process, I’ve put a new range of luggage tags in my Etsy shop for you. They’re perfect for wedding favours, being a little smaller than my usual place name cards, and have a creative little calligraphy swirl in two corners.

luggage tags calligrapher (4)

You can use tags in hundreds of ways at your wedding – I love glass bottles and have a habit of hanging my tags around bottles with twine, lace and other bits and pieces. You can also use them with little pegs on a cork board for your table plan, or attach them to sticks and put them in pies.

If you don’t believe me, have a look at the Pinterest board I made for you! Pinterest – ideas with tags and labels
