Remember Wedding Blogs?!

Taking a little inspiration from an instagram comment that sparked joy for me last week! Thank you @hannahhallphotography for making me smile. So yeah, wedding blogs were MASSIVE back in the day – and then social media exploded, and apps like Bridebook launched, and everything changed. Mainstream wedding magazines collapsed (goodbye Wedding Ideas mag) and niche content or trending stories meant everything. But while everything “out there” changed, wedding blogs are still massively relevant for photographers, suppliers and nearlywed couples (even if you’ve forgotten us a little bit), and I want to tell you why.
We’re Independent
Blogs are wedding websites run by people. Real, human people who’ve grown with the wedding mediascape over a decade or more.
Some have teams: Rock My Wedding feels super polished and more corporate than most. Some cherish authenticity: Love My Dress wears editor Annabel’s heart on its beautiful sleeve, and as editor of English Wedding I’ll always speak honestly and focus on real couples. Others fly boldly in the face of the mainstream: Rock n Roll Bride has retained its fiercely independent nature even as a print magazine (and I stopped my research to read Kat’s fantastic article about the rise of the Temu wedding – it’s unmissable reading!)
All of this mattered when corporate-owned print magazines were couples’ main source of wedding inspiration: only bloggers could really speak out about the wedding industry. It still matters, because the wedding media faces challenges today: AI, for example, is creating impossible, aspirational wedding imagery, piling pressure on couples to style an “instaworthy” wedding – and no one’s really talking about the mental health implications of that.
Blogs share real, thoughtful wedding planning advice
Wedding blogs aren’t here to sell. I think of English Wedding as a place to match couples with their dream suppliers, in an organic and authentic way. I’ll share real wedding content, and heartfelt, expert advice. I work with members of English Wedding who are photographers, wedding planners, venues, florists, jewellery designers and more. But nothing we publish is a hard sell. We’re here to inspire you, to share portfolios and real wedding blogs, and recommendations and reviews from our featured wedding couples.
Wedding blogs love a niche
Insta giants focus on opulence and aspiration, but in a please-as-many-people-as-possible way. That can mean celebrity weddings and over the top floral styling gets pushed out for millions of views. As for TikTok, weddings are entertainment so it’s crazy stories and impossible decor that wins the algorithm. And honestly, the ‘content’ that gets most views tends to be the aspirational (rather than realistic or achievable) imagery, especially on social media.
Whereas wedding blogs love a good niche. If you’re looking for alternative wedding inspiration, Unconventional Wedding is amazing. Green Union is the home of sustainable wedding ideas and suppliers. Dancing with Her is really popular, and the love is well earned. If you’re looking for specific styles and themes, the mega blogs like Style Me Pretty have sections dedicated to beach weddings and so on. And they’re searchable… in comparison to instagram, where searching got clunky somewhere back in 2024.
And here’s the golden bit: Wedding blogs continue to shine with SEO
Couples are still searching the web for wedding inspiration, and when looking for specifics like a wedding photographer in their area, or a florist using organic local blooms, most of us are using Google. Search is evolving like crazy with AI, but still wedding blogs appear high in results for couples finding suppliers. If you’re a supplier looking to elevate your wedding marketing, then getting published on major websites like wedding blogs will give your rankings a real boost. (Doing it regularly will really help your SEO.)
Chatgpt (bless it) told me guest blogging on wedding blogs “can be a very worthwhile endeavor” for wedding photographers and other vendors. (Cute!) And it’s absolutely right, going on to say it increases reach and visibility, showcases your expertise and increasing brand awareness.
Most of all, guest posts provide valuable backlinks (find a wedding blog you’ll get keyword backlinks from for strong results), allow you to target keywords – for example in styled shoot submissions if you word them carefully(!)
“By embracing a strategic approach to guest blogging, wedding photographers and other vendors can effectively expand their reach, boost their brand awareness and credibility, and attract more of their ideal clients.” ~ the robots. They’re not wrong.
Wedding blog content is reasonable! (Read the caption!)
I stumbled across a plea for “reasonable” wedding content on Reddit. It made me cringe and smile all at once: because social channels sharing “just aspirational styled shoots or $100k+ weddings” shouldn’t be the mainstream. Who wins, when that’s all we’re being shown? Yes, blogs are still here sharing real couples’ weddings along with their supplier recommendations. Step away from Instagram and TikTok for genuine, natural photography and a more relaxed, slower scroll!
The moral of this little story? Embrace the nostalgia with me!
A few of us (see above) remember wedding blogs very well. And if you don’t, then here’s your lovely little reminder that we’re still here, doing what we do (which is matchmaking couples to suppliers in the nicest possible way). And while instagram and TikTok will bring you leads and wedding clients, if you’re a supplier or photographer it’s wise to have all of your eggs nicely balanced in a few different baskets so that if anything ever happens to your favourite social platform, you’ll still be findable online.
Of course, you really should focus most of your SEO efforts on your own website and blog. But these days, you need freshly updated external content to point to your website as well. If you need help with that, joining English Wedding is a solid option to consider! Our 2025 media pack and wedding supplier information is here.
