With its natural beauty, a New England-style wedding is uniquely and universally appealing. The style draws inspiration from a particular region in the USA. The north-eastern region of the States combines Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. The Shaker style dates back to the 17th century when settlers came from the Southeast of England in the UK!

The New England style has become synonymous with neutral colours, wooden furniture, and natural fibres combined for luxury and comfort.

Couples who choose a New England-style wedding are looking for a traditional, elegant black tie sophisticated celebration, ideally at a wedding venue out of the city surrounded by open green spaces. To capture the New England vibe, couples looking for a wedding venue full of charm that includes charming, timeless old buildings but with a more modern, light-filled, open plan white space wall big barn for their wedding reception.

So here are our top eight tips for how to bring some New England charm to your wedding:

  1. Choose a romantic and charming historic wedding venue. Ideally, a wedding venue with abundant natural beauty, beautifully-manicured grounds, and an orchard or paddocks to serve as the perfect backdrop. We recommend a historic estate that captures the true essence of the region, with an outdoor ceremony area, but somewhere with a good wet weather plan and somewhere for you and your photographer to get those hazy summer golden moment late evening shots.
  2. For your menu, go more formal, and choose a three-course meal, but a non-negotiable is to include seafood and shellfish, which might include locally caught crab bought in on the morning boats off the Kent Coast.
  3. The primary ‘colour’ worn by the couple is white and black, but you could swap out black with navy blue for a more coastal vibe. Your outfits can be elegant and classic with timeless detail and might include bows, and the bigger the bow better. Think old black-and-white movies!
  4. Opt for a classic neutral colour palette of crisp white or creamy ivory with accents of black, gold or silver to add that touch of understated glamour.
  5. Remember to keep the overall minimal aesthetic in mind. For New Englanders, less is more when it comes to wedding décor, so to make the most significant impact on your tablescape, choose simple, uncluttered and elegant details with clean lines all set on oak tables with oak cross back chairs and add in the occasional blue and white accessories such as ginger jars and white porcelain plates.
  6. For your flowers, think ivory and white hydrangeas, but if you want to add a pop of colour, go for a soft blush or pale pastel pink shade of rose.
  7. To add a touch of comfort, set aside an inviting area in your reception and hire a lounge area but think wicker sofas and armchairs plus a piece of antique furniture for your wedding cake
  8. And choose a photographer who naturally captures that charming New England beauty!

Something a little playful for you lovelies this morning! This styled editorial is a gentle reminder to be who you are on your wedding day. If a white dress or morning suit just aren’t really ‘you’, then remember: you can wear anything you like for your wedding… why not have fun, and be playful with your wedding outfits?

Thank you to lovely Giada from Enchanting Weddings & Events for sharing this with us! Here’s her introduction to the photoshoot (and our full supplier list below)

When I first considered doing this styled shoot, I wanted to do something unique. I wanted this shoot to be simple and highlight the essentials while also being fun and playful. I also wanted an open, light-filled space, so The Phene in Chelsea seemed like the ideal choice!

Maria and Miguel are my model bride and groom, and they are stunningly dressed by Millia London and Viggo London.

Maria’s look was created by our beauty queen Bridal Makeup By Sameera, who also provided hair accessories from Becci’s Bridal Design.

I added movement to the look with a stunning wavy layered dress by Millia London, which was mirrored by a divine layered cake by Aurora’s Kitchen.

Then there’s the soft light and shadow captured by the capable Team of San Dias Photography to enhance and highlight our two newlyweds’ delicate features.

The Blue Sky China and Bunting Team worked their magic to create the beautiful lantern settings and the hoop that framed important moments like the cake cutting and the first toast.

Olympia Olympitis designed the perfect stationery, and Something Blue By Ostro supplied everything from cufflinks to wedding bands.

The colour scheme is dominated by icy tones that wink at a divine palette of blue tones ranging from baby blue to cyan, royal blue to light blue.

To recreate this look, I recommend finding a venue with lots of light, that has the ability to hang ceiling installations (the Phene, unfortunately, did not have this opportunity, so my team and I built a gazebo inside the Oakley room to be able to have lanterns in our pictures), and then wearing a statement dress like Maria’s to stun your guests!!

When modern styling meets a truly historic backdrop… there really is nothing better. Today’s shoot comes from the heart of Oxford, with a super creative collaboration of wedding suppliers who transformed the space into something truly special. Thank you lovely Katie (Katie Lou Weddings) for sending in this submission for our blog – we are in LOVE with this look! There’s a full supplier list just below. Over to Katie!

I am lucky enough to be a preferred supplier at the Bodleian Library @bodleianlibrayweddings and have wanted to create a serpentine tablescape under the intricate gothic vaulted ceiling for some time. The wedding team were the best and gave me free rein, working alongside a five star team of suppliers – the shoot was taken to the next level and I was utterly delighted with the photos and video.

The theme of the shoot was modern city chic with a black and white colour palette and hanging chandelier lights to create a modern, elegant style.

The groom and bride are a real couple @danielle_sewell33, the bride wore the stunning, Phoebe by @chosenbykyha from @elliesaundersonbridal a structured minimalist dress with tulle off-the-shoulder sleeves and with a large bow at the back.

Makeup was kept natural with hair in a chic updo with @oxfordshirebridalhairandmakeup signature Hollywood waves to the front section and elegant hair accessories @thebobbypinuk. The groom looked dashing in @reiss white tie, a gorgeous white velvet jacket and black bow tie.

The florals @fabulousweddingflowers were breathtaking and continued the monochrome colour palette on both the tablescape and in the bouquet of delicate white anemone with dramatic black eyes, graceful yet so eye-catching.

A bespoke stationery suite from the talented @lucca_studios gave a refined and romantic feel from the initial floral crest and handwritten calligraphy envelopes and ribbon to the frosted acrylic signage and modern hanging material table plan.

The cake @theprettycakecompany was a three tier masterpiece with different textures and finishes complete with large black bow.

The hanging chandeliers were the showstopper. Like many I have seen gorgeous pictures from Crescent Moon Events and this was the luxury look I was after an affordable rate. @regencychandeliers from Cheltenham have recently started rental pieces and Aurelin set in antique brass gave the wow I had lusted after. @weddingmetalart made bespoke stands to hold the chandeliers which worked perfectly over both the serpentine and round tables and now available to hire. Huge thank you to Matthew from Fabulous Flowers for going above and beyond in his courier services and making the chandelier dream a reality.

The tablescape was a joy to work on with beautiful textured linen from @just4linen and gorgeous furniture, crockery, cutlery and glassware from @optionsgreathire. The meteor plates made the table pop with its hand painted finish and 24 carat gold mesh, the plates worked perfectly teamed with modern black neo cutlery. The fabulous @oxfordfinedining team had the patience of saints getting the linen to hang right on the serpentine table and put together the champagne tower which added a modern twist to the day.

Separate photographer @poppycarterportraits and videographer @bylumiere teams worked together with the gorgeous light beaming through the high windows and captured the essence of the day perfectly and the stunning architecture in and around the library. Today, a beautiful guest blog for English Wedding member and gorgeous Kent wedding venue Chapel House Estate. This photoshoot is filled with soft sparkle, elegant glamour and beautiful styling touches – enjoy Jade Greenbrooke‘s dreamy photos and check out our instagram for more!

On The Chapel House Estate, couples can say ‘we do’ as the sun goes down. Golden hour is the perfect time to say your vows, but it also shouldn’t be overlooked by couples who get married after lunch and want those perfect sought-after photos as the sun sets below the horizon.

There is something extraordinary as the sun sets; it bathes everything in a beautiful golden hue, adding a magical touch to the celebrations. At this time of day, the light is softer and more flattering, as all the colours seem to pop, adding another alluring level to everything sheer, including accessories!

The golden hour is also the perfect time to get those dreamy, backlit shots that create breathtaking images everyone loves and can’t wait to get framed. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. The first is that the golden hour is fleeting and unpredictable, so be sure to check out when the sun sets as far in advance as you can and enjoy the moment as it is such a particular time of day.

A wedding vision based on Dior, from one of our fave UK wedding planners Tania Russell Weddings. This inspiration shoot is dreamy, bold and sensual with stunning decor and glorious styling touches. We love it because Kristina and Basil have that mischievous vibe that still brings ALL the joy!

Tania told us, “I wanted to bring glamour, fashion and something sexy to the theme.

The shoot was based at the stunning luxury venue Alexander House & Utopia Spa in the West Sussex countryside.

The decor and styling was simple, modern and elegant. This is something that any couple would be able to do but was executed by the talented The Pretty Events Co, who provided the decor and styled the table.

The flowers were made by Bryony Mae Flowers and the elegant cake was by Sweet Sensation.

It was finished off with the stationery by KM Stationery & Design.

The inspiration was about creating elements of Dior, bringing sexiness to the wedding, losing the traditional white dress and showing that it’s not all about white. Ryley & Flynn provided a stunning black Raven Skirt, we then paired it with a lace top for the day & a corset for the evening, with the groom’s casual suit with no tie. It worked well, along with the Hollywood hair by Joanne Hook and the stunning birdcage headpiece by Victoria Charles Headpieces brought everything together to make that Dior feeling come to life.”
