Get the look! Wedding inspiration
Hands up who loves Parma Violets?! I do. And I do even more now I’ve seen Jayne and Phil’s parma violet inspired wedding reception at the Lowry, Manchester. With all photos by Chris Hanley Photography, take a peek at this fab wedding inspiration board — it’s purple-tastic.
Jayne and Phil’s wedding was at The Lowry in Manchester, a modern theatre with creative interiors in every colour you can imagine. The wedding reception room however is a blank canvas, so Jayne and Phil chose shades of purple to make it look amazing for their wedding day.

A rainbow of colours, an artist’s palette: Lowry wedding
The Lowry, Manchester. This is a wedding venue and theatre (not usually in that order) in the heart of the newly developed Salford Quays district, close by Media City and a haven for creative types. The Lowry is named after Manchester’s famous artist L S Lowry, he of the matchstick men: stick figures huddled against the rain in greys and browns and gritty landscapes.

Get the look! Vibrant wedding detail ideas
If you were here yesterday you’ll remember Ruth and Dan’s wedding day in the schoolhouse at Smallwood Manor — and you may also remember I hinted at the gloriously colourful details and then didn’t show you any.
Ah… meanie! But here they are. Wedding photographer Katy Lunsford sent me so many beautiful photos I had to write two blog posts for Ruth and Dan’s wedding — so you get a whole dedicated ‘get the look’ feature today, all inspired by (and with photos from) Ruth and Dan’s day.
If you love colour and vibrant wedding photos, if you have a creative side and want some ideas for a bright and exciting wedding theme, then you’re going to adore this feature!
Back to school for a vibrant, colourful wedding
When I need a bit of colour therapy mixed in with my wedding obsession, I know where to go: wedding photographer Katy Lunsford dishes out spectacularly colourful photographs in her very own inimitable style.
This is Ruth and Dan’s wedding, held in April at Staffordshire’s Smallwood Manor. The school is a gorgeous victorian building with its own chapel and set in fifty acres of parkland nestled in the Staffordshire countryside.
I absolutely adore how Ruth and Dan planned their wedding day — with lots of help from family and friends they created a stunning theme of beautiful colours to brighten up the spring day. The bridesmaids wore different coloured pashminas — an idea I love to bits! — and tables were fun and funky.
An intimate, colourful and different wedding day

Melanie and Thomas were married earlier this year with a reception at Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons, Raymond Blanc’s idyllic Oxfordshire restaurant in the beautiful English countryside.
I’m sharing this wedding day because it’s just the kind of intimate celebration I love. Melanie’s dress is beautiful, perfect for the occasion, colourful and breaks a few wedding rules. Which is great.
The wedding ceremony in London
Wedding outfits with a difference: Thomas looks great in a grey suit with orange tie and buttonhole. Melanie is dressed fabulously — with a Japanese inspired silk dress, orange floral patterns and a bright bouquet to match.
Real wedding in Portmeirion (sounds Welsh, looks Italian…)
Portmeirion is enchanting: a Welsh village, built to resemble an Italian one, with colourful little houses and too cute for words! So I couldn’t resist Simon and Rachael’s wedding — I think you’ll love it. It fits perfectly with the surroundings: quirky and lots of fun.
Rachael wore a gorgeous little vintage inspired wedding dress, very Audrey Hepburn I think! With a birdcage veil and the cutest shoes to go with it. And Simon is a super cool groom (I want his glasses!).
Happy together — a real winter wedding
I love this wedding from photographer Sam Clayton and I’m delighted to be sharing these photographs of Sarah and John-Paul’s wedding day with you.
The motorbikes caught my eye first of all, and then the wedding details stole my heart — I love the warmth that flows through the day, from the rich oranges in Sarah’s bouquet to the steaming tea cups (so chunky! A refreshing change from vintage dainty ones!) at the roadside caff.
Wild Flower Seed Favours
Fortunately/unfortuntely, we’re reaching the point of wedding planning where most things have been done, but what’s remaining isn’t fun, colourful or exciting! The dresses have been bought, the cake is arranged, I’ve met with the florists, we’ve organised the food, most of the drink and 99% of the decorations. It’s getting down to the nitty gritty; working out whether we’ll need a generator for the band, where the caterers can organise themselves, how much space the DJ’s kit will take up… So, instead of boring you with stress and details I’ve decided to share something a little less taxing!
Vintage inspired London wedding — with bundles of details for inspiration
It’s easy to see why vintage inspired weddings are so popular. There’s something about vintage decor and accessories — like delving into an old treasure chest, finding beautiful sparkly things which aren’t just beautiful but have histories and memories of their own. I think that’s why vintage weddings have such an appeal, and Denise and Luca’s wedding really captured the essence of vintage for me.

A quirky Hampshire wedding
Here’s another gorgeous wedding from London photographer Matt Parry. He says (on his blog), “aidan and sarah’s wedding was another lovely laid back and informal affair with just a few traditional trimmings…just the way I like it!”… and you know what, it really shows when you ‘click’ with your wedding photographer like this.
My tip of the day then: meet your wedding photographer. If they ask about your wedding, your style, your personalities… and if you can really identify with them — book them! Matt Parry is right up my street.
