Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you’re having a happy, sunny day, wherever you are. I actually wrote this yesterday because I’m planning to be on my way down from a big mountain in time for Sunday lunch… which means a dawn start! Eeek! So anyway – these two are one of my favourite couples because they really didn’t conform to the ‘normal’ wedding expectations (and for me that word normal isn’t the most exciting of words, so this is a good thing!) Alice describes their day as ‘unweddingy’ – and this makes me very happy. Safe to say most wedding bloggers are on a bit of a mission to encourage couples to do things their way – and for me at least, wearing something completely different to a standard wedding dress is a brilliant place to start! Needless to say, Alice looks incredibly beautiful; Sam’s gorgeous and together they made their wedding as perfect as can be. Images are by English Wedding Directory member Siobhan H Photography.
Happy Tuesday lovelies! I’m blogging from my patio this morning… it’s not often we have glorious sunshine in the Lakes while the rest of the country is gloomy, so no apologies for making the most of it while it lasts! But I do have something to brighten your day and bring a little summer to your screens…
Judith and Mat’s wedding is wonderful for the flowers, for the glowing smiles on the faces of the beautiful bride and groom, and for bringing Millbridge Court back to the English Wedding Blog! It’s been two years since we featured a wedding from this fabulous Surrey venue, but I hope we’ll see many more in the years to come! It’s a blank canvas venue, with high ceilings and white walls… perfect for decorating with bright, vibrant touches as Judith and Mat did.
Happy weekend everyone! What are your plans for today? I’m heading home after a lovely calligraphy workshop and concert in Manchester last night… I’m ready for cat and boyfriend snuggles and a hot chocolate or two! Today I wanted to share a gloriously colourful and luxe wedding with a whimsical look – the blooms are vibrant and lush, and Kate’s stunning dress is insanely beautiful (and a little different, which I just love!)
Images are by lovely English Wedding Directory member Rachel Joyce Photography, and flowers are by the Flower Lounge in Didsbury – Kate told me Sian and the team at Flower Lounge were incredible and the flowers were amazing – “I’m obsessed with fresh flowers and really wanted them to be colourful and stand out which I think they definitely did!”
Our happy couple’s choice of venue was the magnificent Thornton Manor, which Kate had loved since she’d looked around it with a friend – there was nowhere else she and Gary could imagine getting married. Their day was fun, colourful and relaxed – and blessed with glorious August sunshine!
The title for today’s real wedding on the blog is thoroughly deserved. Breathtaking – in that the florals literally stopped me in my tracks, they’re so beautifully chosen and arranged by bride Donna. She has a wonderful instinct and talent with flowers – so get those Pinterest boards ready, because the vibrant blooms in today’s wedding are about to blow your mind!
Donna is beautiful and then some. With Nick by her side she’s absolutely radiant: they make the loveliest couple – they spent their wedding day smiling and their photos throughout the day are just divine, with some stunning shots over the Welsh hills.
Colour was important as I’m a designer and a florist. It was a flowery explosion of colour with glam rose gold accents in a country house. Flowers were the main decoration other than table plan, table runners etc we worked with the beautiful venue and embellished on top of it. Icing on the cake as I say. All the elements just worked perfectly.
Gorgeous Hertfordshire bride Anita is making a splash of fabulous colour on the English Wedding Blog today. Her vintage inspired styling is balanced with vibrant accents, and I’m in love with her Sally Beam wedding dress – isn’t it fab? Together with groom Naoto they planned the perfect day, and I love how refreshing their styling is. I hope you’ll adore it too!
“I had mixed, bright flowers including roses and gerberas. I wanted the flowers to add a burst of colour and fun to the church and venue. Florist Sioned Rogers works alongside ‘Dress it Yourself‘ who did an amazing job of decorating the venue. I wanted a vintage picnic feel so I went for gingham tablecoths, bunting and lots of vintage containers and books to dress the tables. I made the table plan with a chalkboard and then had silk flowers stapled around the frame. It was actually quite fun to make and lots of people complemented it!
If you love colour and are searching for styling ideas for your wedding which are a little more interesting than most, today’s gorgeous wedding is perfect! The multicoloured hanging lanterns are spellbinding – alongside Alison’s ribbon decorations and pretty DIY touches, they make for a fabulous theme and colour palette!
“Our wedding was exactly what we wanted. Styling was colourful but simple. I love tulips so was set on these as my flowers. I pinned a lot of rustic type things but decided to put my own spin on things with colourful ribbon instead of twine and string.
Matara is beautiful and the hilarium is an amazing space to decorate. We decided on paper lanterns to hang along the aisle and in the dome and I didn’t want chair covers as chairs were lovely so we decided to hang ribbon on the backs to make it more interesting. The hilarium also has a gorgeous wall of fairy lights!
You know when you look at a rainbow, and it’s so amazing it gets in your eyes and stays there all day? No? You’re about to, with today’s wonderfully colourful English wedding. The hot air balloon is only one of so many visual delights (and hey, if you’re training to be a balloon pilot!!!… it’s got to be done!) The styling and decor make this wedding so fabulously fun, unique and memorable – it has to be one of my favourite weddings on the blog this year. Gorgeous Kristy and Ollie shared lots of info about their day, so do read their fantastic interview after the images!
“We made our own invitations, created some of the venue styling pieces such as bunting, paper cranes, we put together some glass vials with wildflower seeds for wedding favours too. I was lucky to have some help from friends and family with all these.
Today’s wedding is absolutely stunning: full of vibrant flowers and filled with colour in every corner. Gorgeous bride and groom Amy & Tim love travelling, which is something they incorporated into their colourful wedding theme. The guest globe is genius; the table plan wonderful, the cake prettily perfect – and there’s so much more to this fantastic wedding, I know you’ll love it!
Images are by lovely Mark Leonard Photography, who is based in Bristol and shoots weddings across the UK and worldwide. (Truly – if you’re looking for a wedding photographer right now, look far and wide – expanding your search gives you access to some amazing talent!)
“Our wedding was very ‘us’ – everything we love and everyone we love all together on the perfect summer’s day. There was a summery, boho, chilled out vibe with the added burst of colour and vibrancy we love from our travels and that make summer so happy and full of life. A perfect day for us is fun, relaxed, full of music, laughter, food, cocktails and dancing under the sun and the stars – and that’s exactly what we did.”
I LOVE all the colour in Anna and John’s Hampshire wedding – it’s wonderful. Orchids and paper cranes in vibrant colours make this a real treat for my eyes – and this gorgeous couple put so much into decorating their venue, my screen looks like summer! Don’t miss their table plan – it truly is a work of art 🙂
John and I both have eclectic taste, we were both really influenced by travel especially to tropical lands. The bright and colourful flowers and decorations of these tropical destinations helped us to choose our colour scheme. I also have a love of orchids, they are so beautiful and elegant, origami cranes just felt right.
Our flowers were everything and more than we could have imagined! Lovely Lynne (http://www.fioribylynne.co.uk/) was amazing, her wealth of knowledge and ideas led to the creation of one of my favourite aspects of our day. The bright, colourful exotic flowers encompassed the theme of the wedding.
Josie and Simon’s wedding is just fabulous: the colour they created in every aspect of their day is just wonderful for a January wedding. Peacock feathers look stunning in a British flower bouquet; herbs as favours and place settings are perfect, and I adore Josie’s gorgeously vibrant wedding dress – you’ll love this!

Chance and Google led us to Carol. We knew that we would be getting married in an iconic venue, that needed someone who knew it to photograph it well. We searched for online portfolios of the Bodleian and found Carol’s. We liked the style of photography and we liked the range of couples in her photos – not all couples are 20-something instagram supermodels! Then we met her and she put us at ease, and we felt comfortable with her taking care of our special day.
