I’m so thrilled to be sharing this super colourful, joyful wedding with you today. As well as the gorgeous photos by my friend Jaye, Lake District wedding photographer at Jaye Peg Photography, I’m really happy to have a long list of amazing supplier reviews from Shireen and Phil – starting, of course, with absolutely brilliant Jaye! This wedding has been a dream to scroll through this morning, and I hope you’ll adore it as much as I do. One last thing – Shireen added a beaming happy emoji to every supplier review which my website wouldn’t let me include… but they’re there in spirit, adding to the happiness! More, as always on insta: @englishweddingblog
Have a fabulous bank holiday weekend everyone!

Apart from getting married our best wedding moment was when we had Back Chat Brass (brass band) come playing into our wedding reception as a surprise to our guests. They were amazing & we had so much fun!!! ?

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)
We had an intimate wedding with immediate family only & had our fur baby Millie (dog) as a flower girl. It was lovely to spend time with both of our families & to have Millie there, it was beautiful!!!

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?
When it came to decorating & styling our wedding venue, I (Bride) really wanted to go down the DIY route. I had a strong vision so I was able to collect bits through my line of work (Assistant Manager in Charity Retail) as well as buy things new.

From having morrocan lanterns to recycling gin bottles decorated with lights, putting together dried flower sprigs to having a tree of life macrame dreamcatcher that we had bought while on holiday in Rhodes!
We had a tree of life sign that had been made by a Blacksmith which Phil backed with wood to make as a feature.
Julie at Lune Valley Crockery did a brilliant job styling our wedding tables incorporating cut glass items that I had collected. We even had a piñata for good measure!
Very special speeches

When it came to the speeches Phil’s brother (best man) gave a lovely speech full of laughter & sentiment. We were absolutely blown away with the speech that my dad gave (Father of the Bride) not only did he say a few kind words but he also sang a song full of sentiment. It was a lovely surprise & now a beautiful memory of the day!

I’ll sing from the mountaintops about the Lakes as the ultimate UK destination for weddings! Today’s lovely couple Zoe & David were married at popular venue Cragwood Country House, and chose one of my favourite photographers – Jaye Peg Photography – to capture their day. A beautiful reminder that while our lakes have to come from somewhere, weddings in these parts are always stunning, romantic and relaxed. Wedding photographer review
Jaye was very engaging from our first meeting by helping us navigate our way along our wedding planning journey.
We took the opportunity to have a prewedding photoshoot in April where we were put at ease as she got to understand us and vice versa, this really benefitted us on the day as we knew what to expect.
Throughout the day Jaye was excellent in making sure that all our guests were involved in all the photos giving us ample brilliant images to chose from.
To top it all off when we received our album, we were left speechless with how stunning it was!!

Coming back to the hotel and hitting the dancefloor in the evening!
Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)
Looking back on our wedding there were a few things that we did differently to give it a personal touch. During the ceremony, David surprised me by composing the music that I walked down the aisle to. Speaking of walking down the aisle, both my parents walked me down the aisle.
We also had both sets of parents sign as witnesses to us getting married.
As we got married at our reception venue, we treated all the guests to a boat ride on Lake Windermere between the speeches and the evening reception. We found this to be ideal for us and our guests to relax before the party started.

Cragwood Country House Hotel, Windermere. Absolutely amazing venue that offered ample views and access to the lake!! The venue offered us the intimacy and space that we were looking for. Holly and Hannah, the wedding coordinators, were very helpful and understanding of all my phone calls and emails particularly in the months leading up to the wedding.
Venue styling
We had Mr & Mrs Jones, Bowness-On-Windermere style our venue. On our first meeting, Yvonne managed to describe what we wanted the venue to look like throughout the day. Even when we changed or added details, they successfully accommodated the decisions without overloading the look.

Even though most of our wedding day would not fall under the ‘traditional’ bracket, I still wanted to incorporate the ‘Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue’ wedding tradition. My something old was my grandma’s garter that she wore on her wedding day, that was then passed on to my mum for her wedding day and finally down to me. If possible I would like to continue this tradition in the future. The something new was my wedding dress which was a classically timeless dress designed by Sassi Holford, that helped me achieve my idea of feeling like me but elevated and gave me the confidence I needed for the big day. My something borrowed was my wedding jewellery that came from my mum that fit into the overall colour scheme. Finally, my something blue were Sophia Webster heels that were the absolute perfect shade of blue with a sparkling heel.

Looking at what David wore for the day, we decided to go for something different to his usual colour scheme. By doing this it allowed us to narrow down the choices of suits that were available. Eventually, we decided on a Guthrie and Valentine suit in light grey. This had the added bonus in coming in a darker grey, which we chose for all the groomsmen as well as our dad’s! We paired all the suites with a burgundy tie and each member of the groomsmen were gifted a personalised tie pin.

Zoe’s dress was selected and purchased at Julia Tasker Bridal Couture, Bowness-On-Windermere. Julia was absolutely amazing from start to finish in helping me find the right style of dress, through the processes of measurements and fittings, to receiving it in time for the big day.
David’s suit and tie was purchased from Slaters Menswear in Liverpool. Slaters Menswear were very informative about how a suit should feel and selecting the right size suits for every member of the wedding party as well as giving advice on alternative options to belts to those who needed it.
Zoe’s wedding and engagement rings are both part of the Compose by Clogau collection. David’s wedding ring was designed by Brown & Newirth jewelers.

We were lucky enough to have David’s mum, Sharon, sort out and craft all of our flower arrangements for the day. This including everything from the bride, bridesmaids and flower girls’ bouquets, the buttonholes, flowers for the table decorations as well as all the other flowers needed to decorate the venue.

The Icing On The Cake, Kendal. Debbie managed to capture our idea of having a traditional wedding cake that had personality perfectly! The idea was that we would have a three-tiered cake that for the most part was a white wedding cake, yet on one portion of the cake there were elements of David and I shown. This included a hand painting of the image that appeared across the majority of the stationery – the view from the jetty that David proposed on. Followed by a variety of key characters from our favourite films, Harry Potter & Star Wars, and a recognisable icing model from Mario Kart. We topped the cake with a laser cut sign reading “We Solemnly Swear That We Are Up To No Good!”.

Lauren Young Illustration. Lauren managed to capture our vision for how we wanted our stationary to look to a tee! After sending over the initial ideas and photos, she expertly hand painted the photos and transferred them to a digital form so that we could layer the text over it accordingly.

Today’s wedding is a dream, with an intimate ceremony on the shores of Lake Windermere. Sarah and Jason had a first look before their vows, and walked down the aisle together as a couple. With just 9 guests, this wedding is relaxed and full of love, and the gorgeous photos by Lake District wedding photographer Jaye Peg are absolutely perfect. I’m always so proud to say Jaye is a member of English Wedding – and she gets a glowing review from the happy couple, in their English Wedding interview below!

Wedding photographer review
Jaye made us both feel so at ease not only on our wedding day but throughout the whole wedding planning journey. Jaye is a fantastic wedding photographer and we’re so glad we found her to capture our special day. We had a pre-wedding shoot in the Spring and the rain was constant. Nevertheless Jaye kept our spirits up and got some fantastic photographs. We are blown away with all of our wedding day photos and can’t thank Jaye enough for all of her hard work.

Your best wedding moment or memory
Our fantastic photographer JayePeg suggested a reveal before the ceremony. We’re so glad we did this and there was so much emotion during that moment. Also some fantastic photos captured!

We walked down the aisle together and we knew we had to do this all along! We both thought it was a lovely idea as we’re starting a new chapter together and it’s a great way to acknowledge this. We also had a very small wedding with 9 guests. We had a lovely afternoon tea and played some board games before our evening meal. It was perfect for us and the day we had dreamt of. A big wedding was something neither of us wanted. We also had a live painter to capture our day and have lovely paintings to put up in our house.

Briery Wood, Lake Windermere. Briery Wood pulled out all the stops for us. From the multiple emails and phone calls we made before our big day, nothing was too much trouble. Briery were faultless and such a friendly bunch who worked so hard for us. We can’t wait to return!

Sarah chose a boho style wedding dress. She always knew she wanted a dress that was a little bit different to traditional ones. She fell in love with the sleeves as soon as she saw them and it was an instant yes to the dress.
Jason tried a few suits on at different shops and suppliers. Jason found a very good quality, smart navy tweed suit which he was made up with. A lovely pink tie was chosen to fit with the theme of the wedding.

Emma Louise Bridal – Bolton. Emma Louise was the first bridal shop that Sarah visited. She tried on many dresses during her first visit but the last one was the one. Brackens of Bowness. We met Brackens a few months before our big day and didn’t have a set specification. We just asked for seasonal flowers for our big day. We also asked for some little flowers to go on our dogs harnesses. Brackens pulled it out of the bag and the flowers were so beautiful. The colours were something else and we have had so many comments on them. Brackens also provided some lovely flowers to go on our table to seat 12 people and these were beautiful. We have pressed some of our flowers to cherish.

The icing on the cake – Kendal We found Debbie on Facebook and were so impressed with her designs. We arranged to meet Debbie in a cafe a few months beforehand and she surprised us with a couple of lovely sample boxes. We were blown away by Debbie’s kindness and how talented she is. Debbie took some photos of us so she could make some sugar figurines on the cake. We were so emotional when we first saw the cake. It’s everything we ever dreamed of and perfect for our small wedding. 10/10 isn’t a high enough score for Debbie’s work. She has an amazing talent and we will be asking for more cakes in the future.

Vicky Adamson Hair and Makeup. Vicky works so hard and made us feel so at ease. Vicky did both the hair and makeup for 3 people on the day and nothing was too much trouble (even though she had so much to do).

Styling and decor
Purple Swan weddings dressed our venue for our big day. It was everything we wanted and well worth paying for. Would definitely recommend Purple Swan.

I adore this day because it’s a real family occasion, with gorgeous bride and groom Ann and Robin making sure their favourite little people were a huge part of their day! The venue is Broadoaks Country House in the Lakes. The photographer is super lovely Jaye-Peg Photography. Jaye is one of my favourite Lake District wedding photographers and gets a glowing review from Ann & Robin!

Jaye captured our day beautifully, she was on the ball with our tight schedule and the album we have to cherish forever is stunning.

The memory of all of my loved ones being on a dance floor together loving, laughing & making beautiful memories.

I told my 4 bridesmaids that I wanted them to choose their own dresses, I didn’t mind the style or type, anything goes, as long as they’re each a different shade of my favourite colour; blue. They had all seen my dress prior to the big day as I can’t keep a secret, so the big reveal photo was of my face seeing their dresses for the first time in my garden on my wedding day, and they all looked fabulous, as you will see from the pictures.

Special event tipis at Threlkeld Cricket Club. We loved our tipi wedding, it was so personal to us and felt so different to anything we had been part of before, we were able to enjoy our own styled wedding in the beautiful Lake District where we live without the huge expense of a hotel . We all slept on the floor and woke up to views of Blencathra!

My dress was from a shop in Carlisle that sells off the rail dresses so it’s just luck if they have the style you like the look of in your size. I knew I didn’t want an expensive dress as I like to dance… it’s a good job I went for the lower end dress choice as I ended up doing a knee slide down the muddy hill at the cricket club with my bridesmaid and the dress was complete black on both knees. I had so much fun so I wouldn’t change a thing. Jonny’s suit was a 3 piece from Next, he would have looked great in anything, but looked 100% husband material in the suit he chose.

My mother; Anita. 10/10.
My mum decorated the tipi, tables & made all of our bouquets/buttonholes etc with love. She also brought all of her own furniture that she had collected throughout the year to decorate our tipi! She hasn’t worked as a florist for years but jumped at the chance to decorate our wedding venue and everyone agrees, it looked fabulous.

My mums best friend Frances! I had no preference or rules on the cake as I eat ALL cake so I left it up to her. We ended up with 3 x naked sponge cakes; chocolate, carrot & lemon. All delicious.

My sister-in-law made the table place names and tables names, they were of painted outlines of the surrounding fells of the area the tipis were positioned at threlkeld, with the tables named after each fell.

My mum & I made the seating plan with a glue gun in hand & a glass of wine in the other one night after a trip to hobby craft. It turned out just fine! My best woman made our invites, this was her wedding gift to us, they were beautiful.
Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?
Pretty much each part of our wedding was brought together by our amazing family & friends each offering us something which made the day even more special as it was like a talent show for both of our families. It made for good conversation throughout the day but a long list of people to thank during my husbands speech!

Wedding readings?
By my father, the best man & my husband
First dance song? Playlist recommendations?
Borns- electric love was the first dance song.
There was a lot of Lady Gaga as I’m her biggest fan! We cut the cake to ‘Hold my hand’ which made the moment even more special. When dirty dancing came on we tried the lift.. it didn’t work but made for a good laugh and good memory!

Me; Danielle, I did a 10/10 Job pulling the whole thing together within 12 months, I do feel I should have been awarded a project management degree for my efforts & the turn out. I did get a special mention in my husbands speech ‘I’ve watched her work tirelessly this whole year with minimal input from me, however it’s in Danni’s nature to ensure a day all about her, goes according to plan’ this got a good laugh from us all… it is very true.
Hair + makeup name + review
Hair by Shakira from Slaters Salon, cannot compliment this girl enough! She is amazing, fast, efficient & great crack. She’s my hairdresser for life. We done our own make up.
A special mention for our caterer
Our Caterer was Jane from Table manners and she was fabulous. Her & her team pulled out all the stops and made our day run so smoothly, we didn’t even realise they were there, everything just happened and was cleaned away without us noticing they were working tirelessly around us whilst we just worked on making amazing memories.
There are many people that I haven’t mentioned who helped make our 2 day tipi wedding run so smoothly such as my husbands family, they were all so thoughtful ensuring every basis was covered with great detail, however in this small space, I must give special thanks to my father who I’ve not yet mentioned. He & my uncle drove countless times back and forth between my parents house in Carlisle, and the venue, to unload all of the furniture, decorations & additions that made it personal to us. He also made sure the generator didn’t run out of fuel and fed us all throughout the day with BBQ food, the day after our marriage, when we had a final informal celebration before the tipi was taken down.
We made memories that will last a life time and we wouldn’t change a thing about our tipi wedding in the lakes.
