Sharing real weddings is marketing gold for suppliers – but most of us have been doing it wrong.

Why real wedding blogs still matter for suppliers

I’m a wedding supplier and a blog editor, and for nearly 20 years I’ve been publishing real weddings on the English Wedding blog.

A couple of years ago I made a big change to how I publish weddings.

Why?

Because the online space is so completely different from when wedding blogs hit their first peak, and by leaning into the changes wedding blogs can be a driving force for suppliers’ visibility.

I started English Wedding in 2009. The blog’s purpose was always to inspire couples who were planning weddings, but my raison d’être from day one was to help wedding photographers and suppliers shine online, reach more couples and be super visible in Google search. Everything was about helping wedding suppliers who were just like me.

What real wedding blogs used to do for suppliers

Having a wedding published on a blog used to mean exposure and recognition for photographers, a gentle spotlight on other suppliers, heartwarming love stories and a whole bunch of pretty images – hugely detail oriented – to inspire other couples. A win-win situation when the internet was a calmer place.

Here’s what worked in 2016:

  • Blogging a real wedding with lots of details
  • A sprinkling of keywords like ‘Midlands wedding photographer’
  • Couples’ stories as content: how they met, wedding themes and how dad made the wedding signs

That’s how I used to publish real wedding blogs. But not any more. Because it doesn’t work in the AI age.

When I read wedding photographers’ own blogs (because I do, a lot!) I see real weddings posted in a similar way: a lovely introduction to the wedding day, kind words about the couple and their family, a bit about the venue – but nothing written for visibility.

How I changed the way English Wedding publishes real weddings

For a real wedding blog post to benefit suppliers in a meaningful way, it has to work harder. It has to be discoverable by couples, and also by AI search engines.

So last year I updated the interview I send to every English Wedding couple, to focus on genuine supplier reviews.

I restructured the format of every real wedding we publish – from titles which include photographer names, to structured headings and subheadings AI can read.

And the words of the post itself? I write an introduction, but it’s our lovely couples who tell the story of their wedding day, first hand.

Real weddings on English Wedding now include structured content, genuine recommendations for favourite suppliers, and share couples’ genuine recommendations.

Why wedding photographers could rethink their questionnaires

I know some brilliant wedding photographers who send questionnaires to their couples to gather information for blog posts.

It’s a genius way to inspire content for blogs, but if your questionnaire isn’t up to date, it could be working harder. Will the questions you ask bring the answers you need to be visible in AI search?

Perhaps it’s time to update those questionnaires.

What else could wedding photographers be asking couples?

If you do send out a couples’ questionnaire, is it working hard enough for you? Are you asking the right questions? From my own experience and research, I’d focus on other supplier details and choices rather than couples’ back stories.

  • Which suppliers felt most important to you on the day?
  • What did you love about your photographer?
  • What (or who) made your venue special? (standard reviews are common. Mentioning staff by name has real impact.)
  • Which cake designer / MUA / caterer / entertainment did you choose?
  • Were there any particularly memorable supplier experiences?
  • What made particular wedding details important to you?

What makes a real wedding blog useful in 2026?

If you’re curious about the kind of real wedding blog that works in 2026, consider this your invitation to submit a wedding for publication on the English Wedding blog! The process is super simple, and you’ll get to see for yourself how we optimise our blogs and instagram posts.

What can wedding suppliers who aren’t photographers publish on blogs?

If you’re a wedding supplier but not a photographer – a cake designer, florist, stationer or entertainer for example – having real weddings featured might not be an option*. Insightful, genuinely helpful advice will help couples find you – especially if you tailor your blogs to a particular venue.

*(Although always ask the photographer if they submit to blogs – at English Wedding I’m always looking for fresh content and real weddings to publish!)

Why expert wedding advice matters to AI search

If you’re any other kind of wedding supplier, your helpful advice is exactly what our readers are looking for. The internet is flooded with generic, AI-written ‘advice’ for wedding planning. Genuine, human and thoughtful writing from real experts has real value – and it’s exactly what we publish from English Wedding members. Please don’t be shy to get in touch if you’d like to know more about how this works.

Claire Gould

Hi, I'm Claire, the editor of English Wedding. I've been sharing real weddings, planning advice and styled editorials by amazing wedding suppliers for more than ten years. As a supplier myself, I launched English Wedding as a platform for UK wedding businesses to stay visible online, publishing their beautiful work in a meaningful way - because I see how deeply suppliers care about everything they do. English Wedding has evolved to support a slower, more sustainable kind of visibility for wedding suppliers. Being published here protects your brand voice while helping couples discover your business, building trust through consistent features over time.
