Suzy & Jordan’s gorgeous Isle of Wight wedding weekend, with SJ Jones Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

A glorious sunny wedding with a background of real cherry blossom for gorgeous couple Suzy & Jordan! We don’t get nearly enough weddings from the Isle of Wight so it’s a treat to share such a special day on the blog. Beautiful images by SJ Jones Photography, and a wonderful write up with lots of lovely supplier recommendations from Suzy!

Wedding photographer review

Steve was the most friendly and helpful photographer we could have asked for. Nothing was too much trouble and he made our day so special and captured everything we could have wished for and more. As a family we aren’t very photogenic people so when we looked back at the photos it was so natural and beautiful it was perfect. He couldn’t have captured our day more perfect. We felt so at ease and didn’t feel awkward at all. Didn’t even notice he was there half of the time!

Your best wedding moment or memory

Walking down the aisle the sky looked grey but as soon as we said I do the sun came out of the clouds and it was the most clear blue day for the rest of the night. We felt like someone was looking down on us to make our day more perfect that it was already.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We spent the 4 days with our family in the venue and the day after the wedding the 17 people who were staying with us me and Jordan held a murder mystery evening as cowboys and cow girls and then went to the cow restaurant for our dinner. It was the perfect way to end the wedding weekend. I also had my maid of honour do a speech at the wedding and she is actually Jordan’s sister but we’re incredibly close.

Venue name + review

East Afton Farmhouse. Our wedding venue was absolutely perfect we went to view it in January 2021 when everything was closed due to lockdown but as we was allowed to go we view it just the two of us I was really glad for that as it gave us the opportunity to view it on our own and really see how it would feel to get married there and we couldn’t not choose the venue as our wedding venue, we didn’t even need to view any more. The staff at the venue did absolutely everything to make the day so perfect even though it’s self catering it didn’t feel like it leading up to the day I didn’t have to lift a finger and all the small details you don’t think about it they did and made it more prefect than I could have imagined.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

I had a blush pink a line appliqué wedding dress with three layers of white netting over the dress to give the subtle hint of pink as well as a a long cathedral length veil with matching 3D flowers all the way down the veil. I also had white sparkly van trainers as my evening shoes to give my outfit the pop of my personality.

Jordan wore a dark navy Marc Darcy suit with a sage green tie to match our sage green style as that’s the colour the bridesmaids wore. He even had his own pop of personality as I gave him a surprise present on the morning of the wedding a pocket watch with the wedding date engraved into it and his mum gave him cufflinks with his favourite band’s logo on as his own part of him to wear.

Dress or suit shop name + review

David’s bridal from Birmingham. The suit was from Visual Impact on the Isle of Wight. Our suit shop was so helpful and went through all the alterations through the time we needed to have the suit there was we picked the suit a while before the wedding so it was good to have the help when needed and nothing was too much trouble and alternations were spot on.

A very special mention: Alterations by Tara

I would love to mention the lady who altered my wedding dress from Gems Bridal. Alterations by Tara. She was absolutely amazing and helped me so much. I gave my dress around 6 weeks before the wedding and nobody else would help me that close to the wedding or wouldn’t help me as my dress wasn’t from their shop specifically but as my dress was from the mainland she was more than happy to help and made my ideas come to life and helped me feel so comfortable in my dress. I had multiple fittings and she even steamed my dress for me ready to go it was absolutely perfect.

Florist name + review

Afton Blooms. Jo was absolutely amazing and so helpful she helped us capture my thoughts of what I wanted into real life and did an even better job that I could have imagined. My flowers were done so perfectly and matched the men’s button holes perfectly as well as my flower girls flower crown. She kept me in the loop by asking for pictures of what I wanted and helped by showing me a long the way what she was doing.

Cake maker name + review

Frost bite bakery. Our cake was absolutely amazing and was exactly how I wanted it to look like and it tasted even better. We had vanilla on the base, salted caramel in the middle and coffee at the top and we had nothing but compliments on the flavour and the look. It was timeless and elegant it was perfect and exactly how we wanted it.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

We bought all the decorations ourself mainly from the range but I made all of the bridesmaid bouquets from scratch my self by buying multiple large bouquets and taking them apart to make smaller ones and adding extra little details into them by using eucalyptus and hessian string around the stems and glued them so they would look realistic. We bought gold antique mirrors for the wedding signs and wrote on them using acrylic white pens for the order of the day and our welcome signs. My mother in law hand wrote all of the name places and also made all of the wedding favours which were cookies the shape of the Isle of Wight and round ones with our names and date on in sage green.

All of our family and friends spent the night before setting up the rooms and tables and sprinkling the wooden hearts and tea lights in the little glass jars I had been collecting over the last two years. Even my 14 year old brother was on a ladder helping put the white netting around the wedding arch and tying fake flowers to the corners. We created all of the decorations our selves and I wouldn’t have changed it at all.

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

It was earth angel by Marvin berry as it was played in one of our favourite films back to the future. We made all our playlists our selves and asked friends and family to give us songs they would like to be played and added them in. Our dj also had a QR code on the tables for people to scan and send songs in for him to play.

Hair + makeup name + review

Yasmin Lavell my name up and Megan Dye did my hair. I found both girls separately but they both did an amazing job on me and my bridal party. I felt so beautiful and also still felt like me at the same time which as someone who doesn’t wear a lot of make up or is very low maintenance I was so incredibly happy with how I looked as I felt so special and was nothing was too much trouble.
