Georgie & Sam’s stunning Ilfracombe wedding, with Joan Jellett Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

Gorgeous couple Georgie & Sam had two wedding days and booked Joan Jellett Photography to capture both! Their first wedding was an intimate ceremony at Poole Guild Hall, followed a couple of weeks later by a joyful and very personal celebration at Tunnels Beaches in ilfracombe. We’ve LOVED hearing all the details and scrolling through their wedding photos – we hope you will too!

How did you choose your photographer?

We had been looking for a modern, documentary style photographer that was local to Dorset. Sam’s sister Maria had been following Joan on Instagram and after asking if she knew anyone, recommended that we look at Joan’s account. After looking through a few images, I had to get in touch. The rest is history!

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

YES! Joan is AMAZING! Where to begin.. From the first phone call and email, I knew Joan was the right person for us. Her personality is contagious, she truly cares and listened to all of our needs. She is SUPER responsive and really wants to be a part of organising the photo schedule with you from the get go. On the day, Joan is soo much FUN! Joan has really good positive energy and you can immediately tell that she loves what she does. Joan will capture every moment, you really don’t need to worry about her missing a single part of the day as she will just pop up out of nowhere at the exact right time – she really will make sure your photos are perfect! Last but not least, Joan turned everything around SOO FAST that we were incredibly surprised to receive all in hand within days of the wedding. I really can not recommend Joan enough – I promise one phone call and your mind will be made up! Thank you Joan!

One of our regrets is that we didn’t have a videographer there to capture all of the fun. Luckily – Joan had secretly been capturing small clips on her phone throughout the day (legend!) which was awesome. If we could do it again, we would have booked a videographer 100%!

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

I honestly can’t pinpoint one exact moment as we have so many special memories!

From saying “i do” at The Guildhall in Poole, to two surprise VW Camper Vans (arranged by my dad) to transport us across to Studland, to a beautiful setting and lunch at The Pig On The Beach.

We also celebrated with all friends and family at Tunnels Beaches where Sam’s twin brother was our fantastic celebrant. We had a beer boy (a close friend to get the day started) and had the bridesmaids dance down the aisle to one of our songs from when we first met for a fun entrance. Bangers & Brass had all the best tunes playing with a really big surprise for all of our guests later in the day in the form of a walking brass band named “The German Jukebox” who are a part of Brass House Entertainment. Just having the best time with all of our family and friends meant the absolute world to us!

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe is absolutely stunning. What a venue! Set in the cliffs, overlooking the sea with your own private beach… I don’t think you can beat it! It’s modern, split over 3 levels (all glass fronted so that you and all your guests have sea views) with the most exciting entrance – walking through the cliff tunnels to get there. If you’ve always wanted a wedding next to the sea, do not look any further! Tunnels Beaches is the venue for you – photos honestly don’t do this place justice, you have to book a visit and see the incredible venue for yourself!

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

We loved our outfits. I chose the Nathalia gown from Grace Loves Lace. If you’re someone that loves a boho modern style – this brand is for you! The fabric is beautiful but most importantly, soo comfy!! It feels like you’re wearing your gym outfit underneath! My veil and jewellery also came from them too.

Sam wore a Gucci blazer with a black oversized bow-tie. He loves his Topman black skinny jeans so wore those on the day too, a very cool look and well suited to him and his style. We both just wanted to make sure that we felt ourselves.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

We had some really amazing florists across the wedding. The most special being Sam’s twin brothers girlfriend, Laura. She put together the most beautiful bouquet for me on the day. We purchased flowers from the lovely guys at Pleroma Flowers for The Pig and the lovely Hayley Blooms in Newquay for Tunnels Beaches. All were perfect on the day!

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We actually went for a fun approach and had a Collin and Connie the caterpillar cake from Marks and Spencers.. Who doesn’t love a Collin the caterpillar cake?! We put a top hat and veil on the larger caterpillars and bought lots of the small ones for people to help themselves to. My dad helped me build a really awesome cake stand that looks like a tree for them all to go on, we loved it!

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves (we love that stuff!)

The biggest personalised touch was scripting the entire ceremony ourselves with the help from Michelle Taylor (the funky celebrant – highly recommend!). As mentioned previously, Sam’s twin brother Ben was our officiant at Tunnels Beaches and he delivered the ceremony so perfectly. It made the day extra special having our siblings lead this part of the day. We worked with Michelle to structure the ceremony so that we had all of the queue’s, house keeping and main body of text. From there, we built in additional stories and readings so that it flowed from start to finish. I couldn’t sop smiling throughout the whole ceremony! Having our siblings lead this part of the day felt so special to us and incredibly meaningful which makes it so memorable too.

Did you have any wedding readings? What were they?

Sam scripted both of my sisters readings. He made sure that they fit the flow of the story being told and were relevant to everyone there with us on the day.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

We didn’t have a first dance planned… Until The German Jukebox walked through the tunnel and got everyone up dancing. It turns out that Geri Halliwell’s ‘It’s Raining Men’ is a great first dance song choice!
