My Grandfather invented the bicycles we rode to our wedding… Lois & Brendan, with Libra Photographic

Published by Claire Gould on

We love it when our couples make their weddings really personal, and this time the special touch is pretty unique! The title we’ve given to Lois & Brendan’s wedding says it all: Lois’s grandfather invented the Bickerton bicycle, which is the couple’s preferred mode of transport for the day!

How did you choose your photographer?

Nathan is local and the friend of a friend!

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

100% yes – he was amazing. We loved all his photos and was amazing with my young children getting them to be photographed. They still talk about him now!

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

My dress was a vintage style short dress as we were getting married on a boat! My husband wore his favourite brand of suits.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

My dad grew 50% of the flowers for our wedding as he is so talented with plans and flowers. My mum made all the posies and bridal flowers, plus decorated the boat with flower garland too. It was beautiful. We loved he photos that Nathan took with me in my wedding dress riding a bike with my flower bouquet tied to the front.

Did you hire a wedding planner?

no, my sister was the chief organiser of me!

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

We didn’t have a big cake, just lots of cup cakes, scones etc. The kids all licked the icing off the cupcakes and left the cakes for the adults to eat 🙂

Riding our vintage Bickerton bicycle was really amazing, it was the first ever portable bicycle designed by my late grandfather. He would have been so pleased to have seen me in my wedding dress cycling to my wedding on it.

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

My best friend did a ceremony for us on the boat (we got officially married in a registry office the day before), she did such an amazing job and the scenery as we read our vows was spectacular. My cousin sang La Vie en Rose which was just beautiful. A highlight was when all guest had to sing ‘what shall we do with the drunken sailors’ but we changed the words to ‘the married sailors’. It was great because most of our guests were yacht crew and were with bride and groom when we first me on a round the world yacht race. We also had a lovely reading from my sister and sister in law.

What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?

We danced to Lucky by Jason Mraz, its a song that represents our love and a lot of sailing across oceans together!
