Ideas and inspiration for wedding cakes in the UK

More wedding day fun — in the park!

A real wedding for you today girls and guys, and one which follows from the playful week of weddings we had last week!

This is Richard and Laura’s wedding day in Wales — the venue is Plas Hafod, the atmosphere is chilled out countryside and I love the little details of the day.

Today is all about cake, and this is a whopper!

I’m not here today: I’m off somewhere having a Birthday. While I’m gone, I thought you’d enjoy a bit of Cake. Feast your little eyes on these!

What better wedding topic to touch upon on a Birthday than cake? I’ve been playing on Style Me Pretty and made some wedding inspiration boards inspired by gorgeous wedding cakes.

No. 14: The Cake Topper

Days to go: 38

One thing that has been out of our hands for the wedding is the cake — we decided we’d like a surprise and to be honest, didn’t really know where to start anyway! Wedding cakes are a minefield at the best of times. A friend and neighbour of Richard’s family, Gina, is absolutely ace at making cakes, and when she offered to make ours as our wedding present — how could we refuse!

Royal wedding cake speculation… and some BETTER cakes! Yum.

This is a guest blog post from Baking Mad — I couldn’t resist all the gorgeous cakey pictures attached to their email and asked for recipes. Those of you who’ve submitted real weddings and shoots for me to blog, I’m afraid I’ve bumped you down my things to do list in favour of baking. ;) Recipes for cupcakes, icing and a trio of cheesecakes are here too — see the links at the bottom of the page. Over to Baking Mad…

Keep Calm and Drink Tea

David and I have always enjoyed about 5 cups of tea a day (give or take depending on what kid of day it is!), and have my own nice little collection of vintage tea cups and pots, so when I heard there was a real teahouse opening in Middlesbrough I was one of the first ones through the door! I knew Carli, who owns and runs The Olde Young Teahouse, as she is David’s friend’s girlfriend, and we found ourselves visiting her shop to try as many of her different teas as possible.

Let Them Eat Cake

One thing David and I just hadn’t considered was a wedding cake, neither of us were too bothered, the cake shops around us seemed to charge too much for too little, and we thought we’d rather spend a few hundred pounds on extra bottles of wine or asking the band to play a while longer! Calling engaged couples in the north west who like cake! Quick…

Vintage-shoot-flyer-extract-1
I love it when the wedding industry is nice. When I can peer through my rose tinted goggles, nod to myself and smile because all is well with the world. Today I’m right here, doing exactly that. Why? Because I’ve had an email from a “happy collective” of Manchester wedding suppliers who have got together to dream up a competition for engaged couples.

Win an engagement shoot in a cake shop!

(The official title should be Win a FREE vintage themed engagement photo shoot but I edited to include my favourite bit)

Lisa from Diva Cakes got in touch following my articles about The Wedding Show at Tatton Park in January.

Lisa has done a lot of work with Mat from Red Floral — who you may remember was the star of the show! — and wondered if I would like to see some of the cakes she’d designed with Mat.

Would I?!!!

Rosalind Miller Cakes — Exclusive!

Rosalind Miller is my new favourite wedding cake designer - this lady is fantastic and full of personality, her cakes are exquisite and she's utterly charming too. Rosalind got in touch earlier in the week with a lovely press release about her cakes, and as always I asked for a little bit more from her - and when she obliged I was delighted. So here's an exclusive behind the scenes insight into the fabulous creative world of Rosalind Miller Cakes.Rosalind Miller Cakes - wedding cake website

Describe your kitchen - is it happy chaos or beautifully organised and cheffy?

"My kitchen is huge since I decided last year to extend it and have a dedicated area for baking rather than rent a commercial kitchen.

Me and Cindy Lauper

I’m writing a quick little post at the end of a long but very lovely day out with my boyfriend (who is coming to terms with the notion of being called Mr English Wedding). Being self-employed and free to take a cheeky holiday when we can, we nipped into Manchester today for lunch and a bit of shopping.

I’ll skip to the best bit… Manchester’s northern quarter is one of our favourite haunts but it’s only today I discovered the Sweet Tooth Cupcakery, nestled next door to Cafe Pop. We nipped in for a cappuccino and I couldn’t resist a couple of cupcakes to take home.
