I do love a winter wedding. Seeing how couples incorporate lights and candles, and the bare branches and evergreen foliage we celebrate through the darker months – it makes weddings a little more special with all those wonderful styling touches. And then, of course, there’s the opportunity for incredible lighting in your photos.
Connie and Lewis knew they had to choose the right photographers for their day, and they loved our friends and Devon wedding photographers Younger Photography from day one. Keep reading to see the review they gave us in their English Wedding interview below!
Connie’s dress was important to her, having worked in the bridal industry for five years. She chose a stunning Pronovias wedding dress from The Wedding Company in Plympton, which looks incredible – she’s such a beautiful bride. Lewis is ever so handsome in a three piece tweed suit, perfect for a winter wedding.
The venue is Trevenna Barns in Cornwall – a wonderful space which looks magical, filled with strings of fairy lights! We’re thrilled to be able to share their day on English Wedding, and we hope you love it too!

How did you choose your photographer?
Younger Photography have an incredibly respected reputation, and we knew as soon as we were engaged that we had to have them! There was no question that we would choose anyone but them, their style of photography was everything we wanted.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
Andrew and Agnieszka simply blew us away on our wedding day – they put us at ease and made us feel so comfortable. They felt like friends and guests rather than suppliers, making sure that we were getting the photos we asked for and kept the day flowing smoothly. Neither of us are particularly natural when having our photo taken, but Andrew and Agnieszka are both so endearing and approachable, making us laugh and smile the entire day.
Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?
We were married at Trevenna, in St Neot, Cornwall. Not only is the venue beautiful, but it was an experience for the entire weekend as 40 of our closest family and friends stayed with us in the stunning accommodation available on site. The views from the venue are gorgeous, with brilliant photo opportunities. Also, the food at Trevenna is incredible, locally sourced and delicious which was so important to us, as we knew our guests would want great food as a lasting memory of the weekend.
Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?
Connie spent 5 years working in the bridal industry, so she had an exact idea of the dress she would wear for the day. Her vision came to life with a dress by Pronovias from The Wedding Company in Plympton, however the process was made slightly more complicated when Covid delayed the wedding and our daughter was born in March 2021! After a few alterations, the dress was perfect again. Lewis also knew exactly what he wanted to wear – a gorgeous three piece tweed suit from The Grooms Room in Plympton with silver accessories to match the theme of the wedding.
Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness
Hannah Burnett Floristry created the flowers for our wedding. We wanted to embrace the time of year, with a nod to Christmas and she captured that perfectly. The bridal bouquet contained gorgeous foliage, and included orchids, succulents and pine cones, matching the button holes. Our centre pieces were tall glass vases with eucalyptus, pampas, foliage and pussy willow and were stunning.
As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?
We chose not to have a wedding cake, and instead created our own mince pie tower – seven tiers of mince pies with a big bowl of fresh local clotted cream for our guests to enjoy! It went down a storm, everyone loved it and tucked in to mince pies all evening.
Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves
We really wanted to embrace small Christmassy touches to create an experience for our guests. Each guest had a personalised Christmas bauble with their name on, which doubled up as their place card but also a memento of the day that they could take home and put on their Christmas tree, so every year they would remember our wedding. Connie hand made each of the baubles for our guests. We also had Christmas crackers designed to fit our silver theme, and the guests loved playing with the traditional Christmas cracker gifts found inside! Each of our guests chairs were dressed with ivory hoods with a candy cane popped inside.
We also created our own confetti with flowers that had grown in Lewis’ parents’ garden which we had dried and put into personalised bags for each of our guests.
Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?
Connie’s 12 year old brother read a beautiful poem during our ceremony – People Need People by Benjamin Zephaniah. It’s a lovely reading emphasising why we need our friends, family and loved ones, and was the perfect fit for our ceremony.
What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?
Our first dance song was A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay. The lyrics mean a lot to us, but also the song is perfect for dancing so all of our friends joined us on the dance floor after a minute or so of us dancing just the two of us – not something we’re particularly good at!!
How did the pandemic affect your wedding plans? Do you have any advice to share with couples planning their weddings right now?
Like many couples, this was our third wedding date and third time lucky getting down that aisle! Covid delayed our plans for a year, and actually we replanned our wedding completely differently to how we had initially intended – the pandemic and having our daughter changed our perspective on many things and we realised what was important to us. We had lost loved ones in the last year who should have been at our wedding, so we didn’t want to delay any longer – we wanted to finally be husband and wife and celebrate that with our close family and friends. It’s very difficult planning a wedding at the moment, especially with the ever changing rules and guidelines. Our advice would be to remember what it is important and why you’re getting married in the first place – things might not turn out exactly as planned, but you will always have your memories of your wedding day.

”We designed our floral displays in classic whites and greens for this fabulous photoshoot at the amazing Welbeck Manor.
Whites and greens will always be a classic, timeless style for flowers. The roses and orchids used throughout these designs give an elegant look and by adding in lots of luscious foliages such as ferns, eucalyptus and dill, we were able to capture the countryside feel of the venue’s setting’’

The 1st dress is by The Pronovias Bride. This wedding dress is a perfect combination of a soft fit & flare silhouette combined with a soft a-line tulle skirt overlay for a wedding dress with a difference. A luxurious lace v-neck bodice with lace detail straps continues down to just below the hips to really outline the silhouette underneath the tulle skirt. The back continues with the lace trim to a low scooped v shape.

The 2nd dress is by Sophia Tolli – Tallulah: Soft and sweet, this modern fit and flare wedding dress is oh-so-dreamy! All over Chantilly lace and beaded appliques adorn the semi-sheer, V-neckline bodice with skinny plunging tulle panel. Hand-beaded spaghetti straps lead to a flirty criss-cross back feature, while the clean look crepe skirt features panel lines that shape and elongate the body. The low back zips up underneath fabric covered buttons that extend all the way down to the floating scalloped lace train for added drama.

A stunning day for a gorgeous young family, with star recommendations for some fabulous Devon wedding suppliers. Tracey is glorious in a dress from Amica Bridal Boutique; the flowers by Helen at The Velvet Daisy are wonderful and then some. As micro weddings go, this Pentillie Castle wedding is one of the loveliest, and I’m over the moon to have such a sweet couple on the blog. All images are by Devon photographers and English Wedding members Younger Photography, who are based in Plymouth.
“We had to postpone our original date but fortunately our venue was available on the same weekend the following year. It was a lot of stress rearranging and we lost some suppliers meaning we had to go on the search again. We then had to decide whether to postpone again as there were still going to be restrictions in place for our wedding in June. By this point we just wanted to get married so decided to continue and plan for the worst case scenario of only 15 guests (our original wedding was 120 guests) with 15 on standby if the restrictions went to step 3. We also had to cancel our band as there was not going to be live music or dancing allowed. Fortunately step 3 did happen and we were able to have the extra guests but I have to say, I wouldn’t do it any differently. We had the most amazing day with the people that are closest to us. If I could give any advice, it’s not to get carried away and invite everyone you know, keep it personal and intimate as really it’s only about the two of you.”

How did you choose your photographer?
We originally meet at a wedding fair and Andrew was also the photographer at friends of ours’ wedding. He was also highly recommended by our venue! The reviews we read were amazing and we understood why when we saw the quality of the photos they take.
Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!
To say we were impressed is an understatement! We have nothing but praise for the team at Younger Photography. From our first consultation seeing the wonderful wedding books and the amazing photos Andrew and Aga take, we wouldn’t have chosen any other Devon photographers. Andrew was so helpful giving us fantastic advice on changing the order of the day (you get an extra wedding planner in the package!) It’s unprecedented having someone with vast experience and knowledge to give you a helping hand. On the day the advice and help continued, even down to Andrew tidying my room (throwing everything under the bed so it wasn’t in the photos!) to bustling up my dress in the evening! On top of all of that, he made the day fun. He made us feel so calm and at ease and did everything he could to make our day perfect whilst capturing breathtaking images telling the story of our special day. We also have an 18 month old and Andrew was very keen to have him as involved as possible. Inevitably we cannot thank him enough!
Videographer details if applicable – and any thoughts for other couples about having a wedding video?
We did choose to have a videographer as we thought the day would go so quickly and we might forget things that happened. You also see things that you didn’t see as you are so wrapped up in your day. We chose Summit Imagery who we initially met at a wedding fair. As we had to postpone our original wedding date due to COVID, we didn’t actually get to meet in person but we had our consultation with Ashley on the telephone. She was absolutely lovely and so helpful. We knew we had made the right choice. On the day Jamie arrived super early to fly the drone and capture the venue in all its beauty. He was so friendly and professional, and worked really well with our photographer. Their banter made it all more fun. It really was like having friends with you. At the points where you aren’t actually posing for photos you wouldn’t have known you were being filmed. We couldn’t recommend them enough, if you’re debating having a videographer, book Summit Imagery!
Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?
We chose Pentillie Castle & Estate, we looked at many others but they just weren’t “it”. I was sold just driving down the driveway before I’d even seen the venue! It’s the most beautiful venue I’ve seen. Breathtaking views, a beautiful castle, and various locations to have your ceremony. We chose to have ours in the bathing hut, it is so quaint and overlooks the river giving it an amazing backdrop. The food was absolutely amazing, everyone who attended had commented on how delicious it was. The staff are amazing, so attentive, friendly and professional. They really cannot do enough for you. It’s a local family run business so you get a bit more of a personal experience. It needs to be seen to be appreciated!
Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?
I absolutely loved my dress, I chose to go all out and be a princess as we were getting married in a castle! It was the first shop I went to and the first dress I tried on! I’m super fussy when it comes to dresses so I was shocked. The ladies at Amica Bridal Boutique were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend them. The dresses are beautiful and as they are appointment only, you get a one on one experience with a staff member which you see each time you have a fitting. Nick loved wearing his suit, he chose tails so he wasn’t left out…he wanted to be a prince!!! Sue at the Grooms Room was brilliant, she was so helpful, friendly and professional. She went out of her way to accommodate us having to reduce suit numbers and letting us have some waistcoats and cravats to try on our little boy.
Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness
We had The Velvet Daisy for our florist. Again due to COVID we couldn’t actually meet in person but after a few phone calls with Helen we managed to decide on what we wanted. Helen is such a lovely lady, she was so professional and knowledgeable I knew I could pretty much leave it in her hands and she would do an amazing job… which she did! Check out her Instagram (@thevelvetdaisy)!!
Did you hire a wedding planner?
We didn’t hire a wedding planner, however when we booked Pentillie Castle, along with the venue came the amazing Chrissie. She is their in-house wedding coordinator. Where can I start, from the very beginnings of our plans to the day itself, she was just irreplaceable! I put her through stress being 30 minutes late for the ceremony but she held it together!! She was so attentive and couldn’t do more to make our day turn out to be the best day ever!
As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?
We chose Jen at Edible Essence Cake Art to make our cake. She is amazingly talented making some of the most beautiful cakes I’ve ever seen. Not only do they look stunning, they taste fabulous. The best cake I’ve ever had, so moist and decadent. We’ve fallen in love with her cakes so much, we have them for birthdays and any special celebrations as well now!
What was your first dance song? Why did you choose it?
It was ‘Music to my eyes’ by lady gaga and Bradley Cooper. We chose it because I loved the film and soundtrack and Nick is a bassist so it seemed perfect!
