I hear a lot about timeless wedding styling – and scrolling through the beautiful photos from Dan and Tori’s wedding, I had a bit of a revelation. It’s not the styling that makes a wedding timeless. It’s not the look, or the colour palette, or the aesthetic. It’s the way it feels.

It’s the joy and life you and your guests bring to the party that makes a wedding timeless.
Laughter doesn’t date. Smiles are always on trend.
That glow you’ll have on your wedding day is what’s universal, and beautiful, and timeless. Even better – when it’s captured beautifully on camera.

Our featured couple Tori & Dan booked North Yorkshire wedding photographer Joss Denham to capture their day, and were thrilled with their choice: “Joss was amazing! He made us feel soo at ease and has really captured the incredible amount of joy there was that day. From the moment we reached out to him, he’s been everything and more than we could have imagined. I can’t thank him enough for everything!”

Theme or wedding style?
Nah, just wanted it to be fun and easy going.
We did a lot of the touches ourselves. We didn’t have a colour theme and I loved it that way. It was just authentically us.
What did you wear?
I felt fantastic on our wedding day. Wedding dress shopping had been hard and I just fell in love with this dress and cape the moment I saw it! My second dress was my mums I had altered. It was wonderful to be able to wear it.
Flowers
We did the flowers ourselves and Dan made my bouquet. We used a local lady who grows all her own flowers, so it was whatever was seasonal!

Wedding cake
The cake was from our favourite bakery when we lived in didsbury. Simply 3 tiers and self assembled and decorated.

Catering
The catering was part of the venue. We had an amazing day tasting food earlier in the year. We were always keen for a mezze sharer and its what we loved the most at the tasting. We just wanted lots of it and they didn’t disappoint.
Entertainment
The band we’d seen at a friend’s wedding and had an unbelievable time dancing all night to them. It was made even more special that one of the band members is a friend of ours! They are a great noughties band and highly recommend.
Special touches
We had a few little bits about, so the guest book was a deck of cards for people to sign as we always play cards on holidays. A pick and mix station as I love sweets! The table names were places we’d had great adventures (and near death experiences) but memories to last a life time.

“Getting the right person to capture your day matters. Joss Denham Photography definitely did that for us!” – Tori & Dan
I’m not overstating this at all: Linzi and Gaz had the most elegant, classy, beautiful wedding at Lartington Hall. The look was black tie, elegant and timeless. Everything about this beautiful wedding day is sophisticated, but also fun!
The stunning images are by North East and Yorkshire wedding photographer Joss Denham, who gets a lovely review from the happy couple, along with the Lartington Hall team and other fabulous suppliers.

AMAZING, we bloody love them!! We were also so shocked at how quickly they came back! It was actually really lovely though as we got to look through them all relaxing round the pool and having a drink whilst doing it.
We loved Joss, he was great!! We didn’t even know he was there half the time, he is like a silent ninja!! Looking back over them though, we were like I didn’t even know Joss was there, which makes them even better as we always wanted a candid vibe!

Lartington Hall

We got married in the chapel. As soon as we walked in to the venue, the entrance had me completely sold! it is stunning, beautiful and so elegant. It was exactly what we envisioned, and it was truly perfect. I would recommend the venue, it was faultless, and I cant thank Jamie and Elle enough, they were my dream team alllll day, I loved them, the day wouldn’t have been the same without them.
Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!
Gaz didn’t want to get married in uniform, he choose a Tux and to also display his medals, this tied in with our theme and looked stunning! Personally, we think it looked better than the military uniform.

My dress was everything I wanted. I tried on a few, there was two I was on the fence about, then I actually saw my dress on a photo and I messaged the photographer to ask where the dress was from, I instantly knew it was the one. I went to try it on, it was over my budget, but I didn’t care, this was my dress and I had zero regrets. so moral of the story is just buy the dress ha!!!

I am very lucky, Natalie at Sweet William is a really good long term friend of mine, so I showed her my vision, my table centre pieces and top table vision and I left it totally up to her, I had 100% faith in her and we were not disappointed, the flowers were absolutely stunning!!! She created my bouquet as well without any input from myself, and it was beautiful, but I never had any worries, her and her sister Kat are amazing!!!

Cake maker name + review
Again, we were extremely lucky, my bridesmaid Kelly, her mam makes cakes, and she is amazing, Kelly gifted us our wedding cake, and I had zero input in that, as I know how amazing her mam is at creating cakes, and the cake was absolutely stunning!!

Entertainment on the day
We had Lady V sax alllll day, which was always a non-negotiable, she is amazing, and she absolutely smashed our day! We also had Luke Magician all day too, as soon as we had our very first meeting with him, again we just knew he had to be a crucial part of our day, and we thought he was phenomenal.

We also had Barrie, a caricature artist, he was a huge hit and the kids loved him! We had The Beat Boutique for our DJ, I have been to many of their events so I knew this is who we needed at the wedding, they were amazing and everyone was buzzing as they are such a huge name in Teesside. I also booked the Surprise Waiters, as a surprise for Gaz, everyone loved them, everyone was raving about them all day.

This chic, stylish wedding ticks all the boxes. Stunning florals, elegant attire and the sweetest couple who’ve written loads about their fave suppliers for their English Wedding blog. Definitely the first wedding we’ve featured with an F1 simulator – and it went down a storm! As a wedding blogger and calligrapher, the highlights for me are 100% the gorgeous images captured by English Wedding member Joss Denham Photography, and Jodie’s gorgeous lettering – super stylish, and ever so beautifully done!

“One of the highlights was our little boy going down the aisle first in a ride-on Formula 1 car — a nod to our F1-themed day. We carried the theme through with tables named after Grand Prix tracks and the order of the day styled as “Today’s Line-Up and the seating plan I hand wrote on the barn doors as “Grid Postions”.

Wedding photographer review
Joss Denham Photography – We feel so lucky to have had Joss capture our wedding. From the start, he just got us — relaxed, easy going, and totally in tune with what we wanted. On the day, he blended in naturally, chatting to everyone and capturing everything without it ever feeling staged. We are so happy with the photos — full of emotion, warmth, and real moments. If you want someone who’ll capture the day without turning it into a photoshoot, Joss is your guy. Thank you for the memories we’ll treasure forever.

Your best wedding moment or memory
One of my favourite moments was surprising Matt as I walked down the aisle. I secretly planned to change the song — after the final bridesmaid, the music switched to a pre-recorded version of the Formula 1 theme, played by a local violinist. Watching his face as he clocked what was happening was priceless — a mix of shock, emotion, and pure joy. It was such a personal touch and felt like the perfect way to kick off our ceremony. Another is just sitting back and seeing every single one of our guests enjoying themselves, all mingling with each other and having fun! Priceless to have all our loved ones together in that room.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)
We wrote handwritten letters to every guest and popped them on their dinner seats, each with a photo on the back that perfectly captured a fun or special moment we’d shared. It was such a lovely surprise that brought out plenty of happy tears—and a whole lot of smiles too! It really made everyone feel extra loved and part of our day. We also had a free bar to keep the party vibes going and, instead of a traditional champagne tower and coffees, we poured an espresso martini tower — the perfect energy to keep everyone dancing all night!

Greg Burnett – From our first call, it felt like chatting to a mate—bonding over F1 and football, he just instantly got us and looking at his work we just knew we had to have him! On the day, he brought the perfect mix of calm, energy, and banter, made everyone feel at ease and blended in like one of the guests. We sobbed watching our trailer film back, it brought the whole day back to life and captured some special moments we thought were missed. His work is nothing short of incredible – we’re honestly obsessed. It’s more than just a wedding video, it’s our story, and we’ll treasure it forever. Greg is an absolute legend and master of his craft.

Grange Barn, Marbury, Cheshire

Grange Barn was everything we dreamed of and more. From the moment we viewed it, we knew it was the one — rustic yet elegant, warm and breath-taking, we loved the open plan barn to keep everyone together and wow those views. We had so much freedom to make the day our own. Choosing Grange Barn was more than selecting a venue; it was about creating an experience to bring our vision to life surrounded by all our favourite people in one incredible venue from start to finish!

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!
Jodie – I wore the Pen Liv ‘Blossom’ dress and I honestly couldn’t have loved it more if I tried. I didn’t have this style in mind at all, The Bridal Rooms suggested I try it and instantly I just knew it was the one! It’s soft, romantic and effortlessly sexy. The subtle sparkle, 3D florals and off shoulder bow sleeves are just insane! My seamstress Holly then customised the neckline into an illusion style, and it was hands down the best decision. It gave the dress a more polished finish, gave me more curves up top and made me feel so confident and happy all day!

Matt – I wore a Marc Darcy stone-coloured tux jacket with a matching waistcoat, black bow tie, and classic black trousers. The tailoring by Platts (Crewe) was spot on — sharp, modern, and effortlessly smart. It felt timeless but still stood out.

My best men and our little 10 month old boy were in full black tuxes, which looked great as a contrast and tied the whole look together nicely.
We both wore Christian Louboutin shoes – a little red sole moment for both of us. Jodie wore the Hot Chick 100s in white patent – super pointy, high, and seriously glam. I lasted until about 9pm before I completely lost feeling in my feet… no regrets!
Matt went for the classic black patent Chambeliss – sleek, timeless, and the perfect match for the suit. Clean, sharp, and seriously smart.
Wedding rings and jewellery
Diamond (surprise from Matt the morning of the wedding!) and pearl earrings, as well as engagement and wedding rings all from Moody’s jewellers in our town Nantwich. They’ve been part of our journey since the engagement and are incredible.
Florist name + review
Flowers – Roxanne @ Silk & Wild. Roxanne is genuinely so sweet, so creative and so passionate. She made our vision even more incredible with her thoughtful ideas. Every detail – especially the flawless red rose arrangements and the insanely stunning split arch – was pure perfection. Honestly it brought us to tears and everyone commented on the flowers. She didn’t just decorate our wedding; she was a huge part of the day. We’re so grateful for the beauty and care she brought to every bloom!

Cake maker name + review
We don’t like cake! Haha. It was a running joke with all Matt’s family that we were not having a cake. We kept it a surprise and booked in Jo (the wedding planner at Grange Barn) to make us an vintage style double-layer heart cake with ruffled piping around the edge, it was the classic victoria sponge with M & J on the top. Not going to lie it slightly converted us and we ate cake for breakfast the week after!

Special personal touches
We wanted the day to feel totally us, so we added a mix of bold, fun, and personal touches. We went all-out with loads of red roses — a show-stopping broken red rose arch as the aisle backdrop, single stems, flowing red bows, and a stunning bouquet. It gave everything a romantic and dramatic feel. Having everyone we love there was everything, especially our 10-month-old little man Jude, who made the biggest entrance riding down the aisle in his mini ride-on car. Then came my five bridesmaids, and finally me and my dad walking up to meet Matt. I just couldn’t stop smiling — it was perfect in every way.

The star attraction was the full size F1 car simulator we hired so everyone could have a go at racing around the track and trying to get the fastest lap (true top gear style leader board was included!) – of course Matt the competitor had to beat everyone to it right at the end! Everyone loved Stealth Racer.
Hair + makeup name + review
Emily O’Brien (Hair) – Emily was an absolute dream, she made my hair better than I ever imagined. She made me feel so calm, confident, and like the most beautiful version of myself. Not only is Emily incredibly talented, but her warm, relaxing energy was just what we needed in the morning. She played a huge part in making the morning so special and memorable for me and my girls. A true one-in-a-million! Farryn Ter-Ossepiantz (MUA) – Farryn is an absolute artist and a beautiful soul inside and out. From the very first trial, to the wedding day she wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied. On the wedding day, she made me feel so beautiful, radiant, and like a better version of myself. As well as her incredible makeup skills, Farryn has a calm and friendly presence and made us all feel so at ease. We all felt amazing thanks to Farryn, our makeup didn’t budge all night, even after lots of dancing! Simply the best.
Catering
Vivid bar and Fork and Field catering – fantastic food and drinks service and quality! The staff were so attentive whilst also laid back and friendly – exactly what we wanted, nothing was too much for them!
Entertainment
The Money music – We couldn’t have asked for a better band than The Money at our wedding. From their chilled acoustic set to the full band’s high-energy evening and dj set, they kept the dancefloor packed and the vibe electric all day and night. Having known these guys at uni, it was incredible to see them all these years later on our big day. Absolute legends who made our wedding unforgettable!
Stealth Racer – F1 Simulator – Stealth Racer tied in perfectly to our subtle F1 vibe running through the day (big F1 fans!) and everyone loved getting behind the wheel. Even though it’s full size, it looked sleek and classy outside the barn. It added a proper fun energy to the day and people are still talking about it! Thanks Vicky & Wayne!

When we got the photos back, we were blown away. They’re everything we hoped for and more. Our photographer Joss Denham captured the energy, the emotion, and all the fleeting little moments we didn’t even realise were happening. Nothing felt staged or forced. Just real, raw memories, beautifully told. Joss has an unreal talent for making us and all our guests feel totally at ease, and somehow was everywhere and nowhere at once on the day — the photos just appear, full of feeling. We couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you for giving us photos we’ll treasure forever.
We feel so lucky to have had Joss capture our wedding. From the first conversation, we knew he was the right fit for us and just got us — he was relaxed, easy to chat to, and completely in tune with what we were looking for: natural, honest moments. On the day, he blended in effortlessly, chatting away to us and guests all day and just quietly capturing everything as it happened, without us even realising! If you’re after someone who captures the heart of the day without ever making it feel like a photoshoot, this is your person. Candid, effortless, and truly special.

I loved Anna and Ali’s wedding as soon as I laid eyes on their images. This is everything a wedding needs to be, nothing more or less: a lovely couple surrounded by their best people, and a heartfelt celebration filled with love. Images by Newcastle wedding photographer Joss Denham are relaxed, natural and utterly perfect. Styling was kept understated, yet beautiful, with white and pink blush for the flowers. And the advice Anna and Ali share for other couples resonates with many of our recent posts here on the blog and on our instagram:
“Don’t stress over the small stuff and the things Instagram and Pinterest tell us we need to make a wedding special. In the end they really don’t matter and you won’t notice or care!”

Joss was amazing! He was really friendly and relaxed with all of the guests. We got a lot complements the day after saying how lovely he was with everyone. We’d definitely recommend Joss. He drove us both to dinner after the ceremony and even stayed a bit longer than planned to capture some extra shots! Legend.
Wedding photographer review
We both loved the photography so much! Joss managed to capture a relaxed, unposed aesthetic with beautiful natural lighting and composition. There are so many lovely images of all of our guests interacting and it really captured the joy of the day. There is nothing more we could have wanted, he captured it all perfectly and didn’t mind us trying different things on the day!

We got married at Jesmond Dene House and then had our reception at Peace and Loaf restaurant in Jesmond.

Our May wedding was always going to be a small intimate ceremony with only close family, with a larger ‘party’ happening in the Summer. We looked at a few different registry offices to get married at in Newcastle as that’s where Anna is from and it was close proximity for her grandmother (who’s 95) to attend. On the off-chance we reached out to Jesmond Dene House to see if they offered smaller ceremony options.
Anna has always loved Jesmond Dene House, having been there for many a lunch with her family, as well as for Christmas dinner. It’s such a gorgeous venue and it’s right next to Jesmond Dene, which is so peaceful. Ali also went to university in Newcastle and lived in Jesmond at the time, so it felt very fitting. Jesmond Dene House confirmed that they did in fact offer smaller (and more affordable options), so the choice was made!

We then thought it would be lovely to have everyone join us for a meal afterwards. News of this travelled and Anna’s Auntie Sheila stepped in and said she’d like to get us this as a wedding gift. She suggested Peace and Loaf, and we were sold. They let us create our own bespoke menu, choose our own cocktails, and even had a cake made for us. They were sensational from start to finish and we couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
Tell us a little about your outfits

I chose Maude by Sarah Seven. It’s not fussy but elegant and has a wonderful silhouette. I wanted to feel beautiful without extravagance, I also wanted to feel super relaxed when I put it on. I came across Sarah Seven on Instagram, it’s an American designer and I fell in love with all of their dresses. Fate stepped in and the designer that previously I’d only seen sold abroad announced that they were now stocked in my home town of Newcastle at Marrime. This was perfect because it meant that although I live in London, I could come and try on the dresses alongside my mam, my cousin and maid of honour. I honestly love the dress, but I did have some issues with how it was fitting. But a few miles of boob tape later and a mini-meltdown behind me, I was set to go and felt great.

I gave a really open brief to my florist Wildflower and Rose because I loved her style which is slightly wild and relaxed. I only specified that I’d liked Peonies because they’re my favourite flowers and they’re in season in May. The rest I let her run with! When they arrived I was over the moon, and they look unbelievable in the photos too. The bouquet was just the right size.

Again, very open brief to Peace and Loaf! We aren’t cake enthusiasts and don’t like going overboard just because it looks good in photos. We simply told Peace and Loaf that we loved red velvet cake and thought it would be fun to have ‘A&A’ written on the top. Lo and behold they made the most delicious and thoughtful cake… unreal.
Wedding readings?
My dad read a lovely poem in the ceremony that he had written himself.

I’m so delighted to be sharing Amy and Ethan’s stunning Woodhill Hall wedding with you today. Their wedding theme was spring meadow with wildflowers and hints of sage green. Everything is happy and colourful, and Willow and Vine‘s styling with florals and foliage is out of this world. Joss’s images are – as always – beautiful, authentic and joyful. It’s lovely to read Amy & Ethan’s glowing review which confirms Joss Denham Photography as one of the North East’s favourite wedding photographers. The happy pair are gorgeous, the vibe of this entire wedding is laid back and full of fun, and the flowers are jaw-droopingly amazing!

World class – Theres not much more to say!
We have so many images we will continue to treasure forever and ever. To say we are the awkward camera shy people we are amazed at the amount of gorgeous images Joss Denham has provided. From the candids to the portraits we couldn’t be happier. So many special moments captured forever pretty much sums it up!
Joss integrated into the day seamlessly – such a chilled guy with a great personality. All our friends and family commented on just how lovely he was and the effort he went to to remember names. Half of the images we have I don’t ever remember seeing Joss – which is a testament to how unobtrusive he was. The perfect blend of being in the background but also being super friendly and putting everyone at ease with subtle direction.
Would recommend to anyone who is considering documentary style wedding photography and especially those who are less comfortable in front of the camera. A big bonus was how quick we got our gallery – we were astounded!

Woodhill Hall
The concept of a wedding weekend drew us in for an open day. The wooded drive was what originally sold us when we first visited, not to mention the elephants and the wow factor (neither of us stopped smiling after our first visit)
There was enough accommodation for family with bedrooms full of personality and we loved that the venue had a separate room for each part of the day and felt it would flow nicely. The staff were also fabulous.

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!
Amy: I ended up with the opposite of what I thought I was going for but as soon as I put it on I felt bridal and super happy! I went through the motions of every style, I even wanted to try a poofy meringue dress to indulge in feeling like a princess (definitely not me though). I must have tried around 25-30 dresses on before ending up at YAP where Ruthy pulled out a sister dress to the dress I had originally gone to try and that was that!
![]()
I wanted a super intricate veil which was super expensive, instead went to trusty Vinted and got a brand new veil second hand and mum and grandma painstakingly added pearls and extra lace to meet my vision – they made it all the more special. For my evening dress, I always wanted to try making a wedding outfit so decided to make my own short puffy evening dress! It took a bit of trial and error but finished it 5 days before the big day and turned out perfect! I couldn’t have missed out on getting some matching personalised converse for the evening either!

Black tie and tails didn’t feel right for Ethan. He wanted something light and summery but didn’t want to feel like he was going to the office. He came across Savile Row tailors Gieves and Hawkes and they sold the dream of a tailor made suit. He spent one afternoon going through fabric samples and landed on a prince of wales check with a red lining which fit the bill of something a bit different and very him.
It took a while to land on groomsmen suits as all we had to go off was a vision and a tiny swatch. Groomsmen were travelling from far and wide and had to pray all suits would fit and work well together – it wasn’t until the morning of the wedding everything fell into place and thankfully they all looked fab.

At the first open day we attended at Woodhill Hall we met Margaret from Willow and Vine. We spent a good 20 minutes chatting to her about the arrangements she had brought and the work she does and more importantly got to know her and how fab her and the team were!
We spent countless hours in the run up to the wedding sitting and chatting over a cuppa and biccies not only about our wedding vision but about life, sharing funny stories. Our vision was spring meadow, wild flowing flowers, lots of colours and happiness. Margaret more than met the brief. We couldn’t stop happy dancing when the girls brought the bouquets on the morning of the wedding, and through every room the florals were perfect.
Wedding cake
![]()
Cake originally wasn’t in the plan but Amy’s mum wanted to see a cake cutting. We ended up with the biggest box of gorgeous cake samples in so many flavours and agreed a cake was for the best!
After trying everything from lemon cake to salted caramel we settled on red velvet for one tier and chocolate cake with an oreo crunch buttercream for the second tier and god was it tasty. We wanted to keep things simple so stayed with a white buttercream covering with a hint of pastel peach smudge and gold leaf with some added florals.
Catering
Catering provided by Woodhill was second to none.
From the Friday night lasagne and curry to the canapes and wedding breakfast the food was exquisite. To top it all, the mother of the groom is coeliac and to keep things simple the chef cooked all meals gluten free. You would never have guessed that sticky toffee pudding was GF, it was the lightest yummiest pudding ever!
Allergies and dietary requirements – nothing was too much to ask.
So many people commented on the food and how fab it was. Still unsure how the chef cooked so many sirloins to perfection!
Big shout out to the evening food – personal pizza boxes, you can never go wrong after a few drinks. At the end of the night we ate lots of pizza and slices of cake and sat looking through the photobooth guestbook laughing at all the fab pictures!
Di meos – couldn’t not have the best ice cream in Newcastle. Went down a treat and was the perfect addition on such a sunny day. Holds a special place in our hearts, had many an ice cream date and pizza at Di meos. Come wind rain or shine we are always down for ice cream and as soon as we got engaged it was one of Amy’s non negotiables!
Entertainment
Helena – harpist for the wedding ceremony, playing the most gorgeous songs, there was a heavy country theme to a lot of the music and of course we had to have Shania twain as the entrance song. Sadly we couldn’t have Lizzie Mcguire as our exit song but Helena did a fab rendition of Bruno mars and we made up for the lack of lizzie mcguire at the wedding breakfast entrance! This truly is what dreams are made of!!
Glen – top geezer, provided some great vocals and good vibes for the sunny drinks reception. Not to mention the added photography. We both agreed we wanted a live first dance song, and so he stayed on to do a live set at the evening reception making it all the more special.
Bride and groove – shout out to the best DJ managing to mix country with pop, r&b and a sprinkle of ABBA (for grandma). Couldn’t have asked for a better evening full of dancing and fun. He even obliged in playing the iconic DDID by Trey Lewis! Also a shout out to the photobooth for providing some hilarious photos!
