Summer bank holidays are the BEST!! Whatever your plans for the day, enjoy. Relax, have summer drinks in the garden, smile and laugh and be happy. That’s my plan too! And allow me to bring a happy smile to your beautiful face with this gorgeous summer marquee wedding in Cheshire.

Sarah and Simon’s day is truly personal, informal and fun. Their focus was on friends and family, on celebrating and having the most amazing day ever – and they nailed it! The joy on everyone’s faces is just making me smile so much today! The styling touches are lovely, with a definite summer garden botanical feel to everything. I adore the herbs on place settings, the little tags, home made alcoholic favour bottles, terracotta pots on tables and the bold colour palette of blues and purples.

Happy weekend everyone! What are your plans for today? I’m heading home after a lovely calligraphy workshop and concert in Manchester last night… I’m ready for cat and boyfriend snuggles and a hot chocolate or two! Today I wanted to share a gloriously colourful and luxe wedding with a whimsical look – the blooms are vibrant and lush, and Kate’s stunning dress is insanely beautiful (and a little different, which I just love!)

Images are by lovely English Wedding Directory member Rachel Joyce Photography, and flowers are by the Flower Lounge in Didsbury – Kate told me Sian and the team at Flower Lounge were incredible and the flowers were amazing – “I’m obsessed with fresh flowers and really wanted them to be colourful and stand out which I think they definitely did!

Our happy couple’s choice of venue was the magnificent Thornton Manor, which Kate had loved since she’d looked around it with a friend – there was nowhere else she and Gary could imagine getting married. Their day was fun, colourful and relaxed – and blessed with glorious August sunshine!

Today’s beautiful celebrations are properly at home on gorgeous bride Jodie and Ed’s family farm. Huge thanks to English Wedding Directory member Jess Yarwood Photography for her wonderful images – Jodie describes their wedding as “the most precious love-filled day of our lives” and I think her description fits it perfectly!

Our wedding followed a rustic traditional theme styled around our farming lives. From the tractor which Ed drove us home from church on to horseshoes and little sheep on every table and straw bales scattered everywhere we made the theme about us and our lives. There were abundance of pink and white flowers, greenery, and cut logs inside and outside the marquee.

My advice for other couples? Enjoy the wedding planning – it really is a long process not to, and don’t get yourself worried or upset over things you can’t afford or couldn’t have. Your wedding will be the best day of your life no matter what, where and how it happens!

I love this time of year: we’re moving slowly from featuring the best weddings of the summer to sharing our favourite autumn and winter weddings… and as the nights draw closer and we all remember our love for cosy jumpers, it’s really lovely to see winter weddings back on the blog!

I absolutely love Sarah and Alex’s Chester Town Hall wedding. They moved on to Oddfellows Chester for the reception – a fantastic venue set in the heart of Chester. It is a quirky hotel, in a grade II listed Georgian building.

The wedding cake is so striking – I love their brave choice of black icing and gold sugar flowers – so exquisite, different and beautiful.  The sophisticated black and gold colour scheme throughout the day makes their wedding so unique – I love it.

This weekend has me full of thoughts of spring, newness, life and nature – I’m kind of a closet pagan and so Ostara is my thing at this time of year. I’d love to wish you all a happy weekend of reflection, family, chocolate and flowers! Oh, and if you have a wedding business don’t forget you have today and tomorrow to sign up to be a member of the English Wedding Directory for just £30 this weekend!

But first… today’s beautiful bride Charlotte and Adam were married at the beautiful local church in Burleydam, Whitchurch and then had a stunning marquee reception. I love all the gold styling, and their tablescapes are unreal… plus, Charlotte’s bouquet is unique and so, so pretty.

I know it’s too early to start talking about 2018 wedding trend predictions… but every time I see a shoot like this I want to sing from the rooftops! Darker colours are going to be big next year: we’ll see a dramatic shift from pastels and neutrals to really rich shades of everything. Midnight blues, moonlit greens and opulent plum colours with metallic accents are going to be the hottest trend going… and so today I’m thrilled to be sharing this gorgeous tablescape shoot by lovely Louise at One Stylish Day with you.

Moody Hues is dark, theatrical and bold, softened by layering deep shades of navy and mauve with black, and bathing the whole look in delicate candlelight. Create the look by using black crockery, gold cutlery and dark, elegant glassware, and team with long trailing black table linen to enhance the high drama effect.

So many of our wedding trends begin in the US. We fell in love with ranch weddings, escort cards, and then calligraphy – big time – which is brilliant! But sometimes I stop, and I wonder why on earth we need that American influence when English weddings are so incredibly inspiring. Take today – Leah & Alex are just sooo stylish; their venue has aeons of history and character to it, and the day looks to be the most amazing party…

“Leah & Alex were amazing to work with. From the first meeting at my local where they’d come all the way from London I knew we were a perfect match. To return the favour I went down to London for their pre wedding shoot at Kew gardens; they had their first date there, got engaged there and as well as the PWS the wedding theme was all about the gardens. I knew after taking those photos in sweltering June sun (You can see them here http://www.vickerstaffphotography.co.uk/kew-gardens-london-pre-wedding-portraits/) that they were going to be a dream to photograph…… I was spot on.

This is what we at English Wedding Blog HQ call a wow wedding. A wow wedding is when we gasp, shout back at our screens and can’t stop grinning. It’s gorgeous – the images, the bride & groom, the bouquet (double wow!) and the styling of the reception… just amazing!

“I work as a designer so I loved creating the details for our special day. My dad built the chalkboards and easels for me which I decorated with the chalk pens by hand. My parents, brother, aunt, uncle and husband patiently assisted me with with the set up the day before – I knew exactly how I wanted to arrange the table wreaths, candles and vintage bottles and they were so kind to put up with me being obsessive over the placement of everything as I could mere have completed it in time myself!”

Lydia and Mark’s day is one of beautiful, traditional luxury. They celebrated at home and chose a romantic, feminine theme for their day. Lydia is stunning in her haute couture dress by Antonia Pugh-Thomas; the flowers are fabulous and the day is so full of gorgeous, creative touches to be inspired by.

We loved sourcing the decorations and styling the reception. We lined the entrance to the marquee with three tiered terracotta pots which we had pained in soft grey and filled with lavender and seasonal plants, we put them together in April and anxiously watched them grow! We also made the place setting board and really enjoyed decorating the marquee together the day before – it really added to the excitement to see everything arriving and putting all our plans together. We used a large hamper, painted it white, and filled it with various sized flip-flops for partying in the evening, needless to say they were all snapped up as soon as the dancing started- we wish we’d bought twice as many!

Today’s wedding is beautifully simple, classic and elegant. Katherine and Scott make such a charming couple – their style is honest and timeless, and their wedding uses flowers to create a really romantic and summery atmosphere.

Katherine and Scott have been together for many years. They really were meant to be! That just shone out throughout the day. Such a lovely couple and family to work with.

As a photographer I adore beautiful light and the sunlight on that day in early June was possibly the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen. The colours and the sunshine were sublime, particularly in the morning, and it really was the perfect day for a wedding and for a wedding photographer.

Yesterday we featured Verity and Tom’s intimate Chester wedding ceremony… so today I’m thrilled to be sharing the fabulous images from their wedding reception at Nunsmere Hall. The flowers are divine, Verity and her bridesmaids are beautiful and the guys look awesome too! They had a lovely blessing at a church in Tarporley, and then went onto the gorgeous Nunsmere Hall.

Wedding photographer Lucy (Clara Cooper Photography) told me, “This was one of the best weddings I shot this year, the people were wonderful, Verity & Tom were so in love, and they really did go ALL out, the flowers (just WOW), the table settings, even the absolutely stunning gifts, all engraved with a birch leaf, (Verity’s second name), the day was filled with personal touches which made it so special. The sun shone all day long, they had a live musician who was AMAZING and he played every instrument you can imagine. There were beautiful family portraits, champagne in the gardens, and a stunning wedding breakfast. Following this they partied hard into the night.”

When it comes to city chic weddings, I think Chester is one of the very best locations for its unique and charming character… and a stroll through the city is almost obligatory for your wedding album! Gorgeous Verity and Tom made the most of this super location with a 2 day wedding celebration: day 1 was an intimate ceremony and lunch with close family, and day 2 is coming up tomorrow!

I do love the idea of an intimate marriage followed by a party the day after… it sounds and looks perfect! I also love the idea of taking the pressure off the main wedding day by having a very personal ceremony first. Verity & Tom got married on a Friday at Chester registry office, followed by a lovely stroll down to the River Dee for some fun portraits with their family and friends and then lunch and drinks in the sunshine!

Day 2 – where the gorgeous couple had a blessing and a fabulous wedding party – will follow tomorrow. In the meantime please enjoy the wonderful pics of their intimate Chester wedding. They’re by Clara Cooper Photography whose beautiful photography you can discover more of here:
