I adore this day because it’s a real family occasion, with gorgeous bride and groom Ann and Robin making sure their favourite little people were a huge part of their day! The venue is Broadoaks Country House in the Lakes. The photographer is super lovely Jaye-Peg Photography. Jaye is one of my favourite Lake District wedding photographers and gets a glowing review from Ann & Robin!

Amazing!!! The team took care of everything and more, we were so looked after and they really made it special – a big shout out to all the team in the kitchen too, they bought our bespoke menu to life, we asked them to re create dishes that had meaning to us, and they smashed it!

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Bride – natural and comfy were in order…. And my head piece and veil were my mothers from her wedding a mere 35 ish years ago!

Groom – traditional with a twist, personalised linings with bespoke stitching with our initials inside…. It was all in the finishing touches!

We really enjoyed making all the place names, we didn’t want just little cards we wanted them to be keep sakes, so we used little slates and more of the artificial flowers to bring it all together.

Today’s wedding is an absolute dream! Lovely Danni and Jonny were married in the Lake District, partied in tipis and spent the night there… guests woke up to views of Blencathra and it all looks amazing! They chose one of our faves, Lake District wedding photographer Jaye Peg Photography, to capture their day. It’s a treat for me to be able to say Jaye is a member of English Wedding! Keep reading for all their pretty handmade touches and to see stationery, cakes and flowers all made by the couple’s family!

Jaye captured our day beautifully, she was on the ball with our tight schedule and the album we have to cherish forever is stunning.

Your best wedding moment or memory

The memory of all of my loved ones being on a dance floor together loving, laughing & making beautiful memories.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

I told my 4 bridesmaids that I wanted them to choose their own dresses, I didn’t mind the style or type, anything goes, as long as they’re each a different shade of my favourite colour; blue. They had all seen my dress prior to the big day as I can’t keep a secret, so the big reveal photo was of my face seeing their dresses for the first time in my garden on my wedding day, and they all looked fabulous, as you will see from the pictures.

My nanna; Marbeth. who captures every single day of her life on video because… that’s just who she is. She will tell you exactly what you ate at that restaurant with her in 2015 if you ask! It’s thanks to her that we have a lot of good moments on video.

Special event tipis at Threlkeld Cricket Club. We loved our tipi wedding, it was so personal to us and felt so different to anything we had been part of before, we were able to enjoy our own styled wedding in the beautiful Lake District where we live without the huge expense of a hotel . We all slept on the floor and woke up to views of Blencathra!

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

My dress was from a shop in Carlisle that sells off the rail dresses so it’s just luck if they have the style you like the look of in your size. I knew I didn’t want an expensive dress as I like to dance… it’s a good job I went for the lower end dress choice as I ended up doing a knee slide down the muddy hill at the cricket club with my bridesmaid and the dress was complete black on both knees. I had so much fun so I wouldn’t change a thing. Jonny’s suit was a 3 piece from Next, he would have looked great in anything, but looked 100% husband material in the suit he chose.

My mother; Anita. 10/10.

My mum decorated the tipi, tables & made all of our bouquets/buttonholes etc with love. She also brought all of her own furniture that she had collected throughout the year to decorate our tipi! She hasn’t worked as a florist for years but jumped at the chance to decorate our wedding venue and everyone agrees, it looked fabulous.

Cake maker name + review

My mums best friend Frances! I had no preference or rules on the cake as I eat ALL cake so I left it up to her. We ended up with 3 x naked sponge cakes; chocolate, carrot & lemon. All delicious.

My sister-in-law made the table place names and tables names, they were of painted outlines of the surrounding fells of the area the tipis were positioned at threlkeld, with the tables named after each fell.

My mum & I made the seating plan with a glue gun in hand & a glass of wine in the other one night after a trip to hobby craft. It turned out just fine! My best woman made our invites, this was her wedding gift to us, they were beautiful.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

Pretty much each part of our wedding was brought together by our amazing family & friends each offering us something which made the day even more special as it was like a talent show for both of our families. It made for good conversation throughout the day but a long list of people to thank during my husbands speech!

Borns- electric love was the first dance song.
There was a lot of Lady Gaga as I’m her biggest fan! We cut the cake to ‘Hold my hand’ which made the moment even more special. When dirty dancing came on we tried the lift.. it didn’t work but made for a good laugh and good memory!

Me; Danielle, I did a 10/10 Job pulling the whole thing together within 12 months, I do feel I should have been awarded a project management degree for my efforts & the turn out. I did get a special mention in my husbands speech ‘I’ve watched her work tirelessly this whole year with minimal input from me, however it’s in Danni’s nature to ensure a day all about her, goes according to plan’ this got a good laugh from us all… it is very true.

Hair + makeup name + review

Hair by Shakira from Slaters Salon, cannot compliment this girl enough! She is amazing, fast, efficient & great crack. She’s my hairdresser for life. We done our own make up.

A special mention for our caterer

Our Caterer was Jane from Table manners and she was fabulous. Her & her team pulled out all the stops and made our day run so smoothly, we didn’t even realise they were there, everything just happened and was cleaned away without us noticing they were working tirelessly around us whilst we just worked on making amazing memories.

There are many people that I haven’t mentioned who helped make our 2 day tipi wedding run so smoothly such as my husbands family, they were all so thoughtful ensuring every basis was covered with great detail, however in this small space, I must give special thanks to my father who I’ve not yet mentioned. He & my uncle drove countless times back and forth between my parents house in Carlisle, and the venue, to unload all of the furniture, decorations & additions that made it personal to us. He also made sure the generator didn’t run out of fuel and fed us all throughout the day with BBQ food, the day after our marriage, when we had a final informal celebration before the tipi was taken down.

We made memories that will last a life time and we wouldn’t change a thing about our tipi wedding in the lakes.

A wedding *almost* on my doorstep today – a gorgeous couple and a laid back celebration from the gateway to the Lakes. I do love a jetty… I adore a fell side even more, and lovely Philippa and Nathan had some stunning Lake District photos to remember their day, by fab Cumbria wedding photographer Jaye Peg Photography.

Wedding photographer review

“She was incredible! Jaye didn’t waste any time and we were very happy with the photos.”

Philippa and Nathan’s wedding day styling was perfect for the Lakes. Their relaxed vibe with understated elegance combined beige and blue for the men’s suits, and mismatched florals for the bridesmaids’ dresses. They look fantastic.

Philippa is incredible in an off the shoulder Bardot style dress.

The beautiful flowers are in shades of white, peach and pale coral, adding to the laid-back and relaxed vibe, which really set the tone for the whole day.

Lakeside Hotel & Spa is surrounded by the serene beauty of the Lake District and the lush greenery of the Cumbrian countryside. It’s an easily accessible Lakes wedding venue, with jetties and fells nearby providing perfect photo opportunities!

Some of my favourites are the relaxed wedding portraits of Philippa and Nathan on the mountainside of Gummers How, where they had a little time for just the two of them (and dog Nala!) to enjoy a scenic walk, and to take in the stunning views over Windermere.

The genuine and authentic emotions captured in these photos are wonderful to see. Do check out Jaye Peg Photography if you’re looking for a relaxed and laid-back Lake District wedding photographer!

Today’s gorgeous pair were wed in the heart of the Lakes, and got some incredible and dramatic photos to remember their day by, despite the usual Lakeland weather! Leanne looks amazing in her dress from Beautiful Brides in Liverpool, and Callum’s as smart as can be in a classic Marc Darcy suit. But this day is all about the atmosphere: the glowing, beaming JOY of this wedding is second to none – and I hope you love it as much as we do!

Over to Leanne & Callum to tell you about their wedding day, with images by lovely wedding photographer Tom Hodgson, based in the Peak District.

Wedding photographer review

Tom was just amazing! We were truly blown away with how he managed to capture every little detail of our day. The shots were so natural and they are the perfect memories of all of the love and laughter of the day. From the very first time we met Tom at our pre-wedding shoot, he made us feel so at ease. He took away all our worries about having our photos taken and it was lovely that we had been able to meet and get to know him as it meant he was a friendly and familiar face on the day! Lots of our family and friends commented on how warm and friendly Tom was.

We were also really grateful that, even though the typical Lake District weather made an appearance, Tom was still up for coming down to the lake with us to get some beautiful scenic photos! We absolutely loved the photos and had such a laugh in the process! We received so many more photos than we expected, I’m still looking through them and finding new favourites! Tom’s documentary style of photography was perfect and captured the little moments throughout the day that we would have missed!

Your best moment or memory

This is so hard as we both genuinely loved every single second of the day! I think the fact that we got to share such a special day surrounded by everyone we love in our favourite place was just magical and a feeling that we will hold with us forever! It was so lovely to see everyone having so much fun all day. We were smiling from ear to ear all day and had the time of our lives!

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

Callum’s cousin plays the bagpipes and we were so excited to have him play at the wedding. After the ceremony, all of our guests gathered outside ready for the confetti throw and Bobby led us through the ceremony room and out to our guests playing ‘Flower of Scotland’ on the bagpipes.

We are both F1 fans and wanted to pick something unique to walk into our wedding breakfast. We walked in to the F1 theme tune with all of our friends and family cheering us on!

During the wedding breakfast, just before our dessert, we did a photo challenge with all of our guests! We played ‘Flash, Bang, Wallop! What a Picture’ from Half A Sixpence. We raced round the room with our photographer, trying to get a picture with every table before the song finished! This meant that we got some great photos with each table, with all of the tables competing to create the best picture! In between the ceremony and wedding breakfast, we had lawn games for all of our guests to play. These went down really well, for big and small kids alike! There were some very competitive games and bets were placed!

Taylormade Videography

We are so glad we went with Patrick from Taylormade videography. The videos we received from him were so special and covered so much more of the day than we imagined! We received shorter highlight film and a fully edited feature length film including the whole ceremony, speeches, father daughter dance and first dance along with all of the other footage they had taken on the day! We were expecting it to be about 40 minutes long, but it is almost 2 hours! We re-lived the whole day watching it back and love that we have so many brilliant moments from the day to keep forever! The films are very cinematic and really tell the story of the day.

Venue name + review

New House Farm, Lorton

New House Farm is the most amazing venue! From the very first time we visited , we knew it was the perfect place for us to get married. We had our ceremony in the newly built ‘Cow Shed’, a beautiful room with a stunning backdrop of the mountains and fields. The lawn and grounds were perfect for drinks, canapés and lawn games after the ceremony.

We had our wedding breakfast and evening reception in the Hayloft, which just looked magical all decorated with fairy lights.

One of the best things about the venue is the people. Every single member of staff at New House Farm was so friendly and helped to make our day perfect! We especially have to thank Hazel, who truly is a Wonder Woman! As soon as we met Hazel, we immediately felt at ease and welcomed. She was so enthusiastic and never stopped! She was there to help us every step of the way. Everything about the venue was perfect and we had the most amazing day! So many guests commented on how fabulous the venue was. We loved that we were able to completely personalise every part of our wedding, making it unique to us. Everyone at New House Farm helped our day to run smoothly and we can’t thank them enough! We would 100% recommend New House Farm if you’re looking for a beautiful venue with stunning views and the most friendly and fun atmosphere.

Beautiful Brides Liverpool

I am so so glad I found Marissa and Beautiful Brides Liverpool. It’s safe to say I was feeling very nervous about trying on wedding dresses, but after doing a bit of research and reading lots of positive reviews, I decided to book in an appointment with Marissa.

From the minute I stepped foot in the door, Marissa made me feel completely at ease and I knew I had chosen the right place!

There were still some covid restrictions in place when I first went and so Marissa asked me a few questions about what I was looking for in a wedding dress and (after a good chat) picked out 5 dresses that I just loved. Putting on the first dress, my anxiety about trying on dresses disappeared and I had the best time trying them on. As soon as I put on one of the dresses, Marissa said straight away that it was the one I would pick, and she was right! I just felt amazing in it, it really was the dream dress! The fact that I could chose and customise the sleeves and details on the dress was the cherry on top!

Marc Darcy

Callum and the groomsmen all wore suits from Marc Darcy. Callum wanted the suits to reflect the rustic Lake District venue so picked a tweed style material in a navy blue.

Florist name + review

Cumberland Flower Farm

We had a rustic wedding theme and wanted the flowers to reflect this. We wanted wildflower/ meadow style flowers with lots of greenery. We looked at quite a few florists but as soon as we saw Cumberland Flower Farm’s website and read about their unique approach to wedding floristry, we thought it was just what we were after!

Harriet was brilliant from start to finish, helping to make our vision for meadow style flowers a reality. They were more than we could ever have hoped for! Cumberland Flower Farm grow their own flowers, not far from our wedding venue and all of the flowers they use are grown in the UK!

We discussed the style and colour scheme we were after and requested that we had thistles within the bouquets and button holes (Scottish family links and we got engaged in Scotland), and sweet peas in the arrangements. We were blown away on the day with how beautiful the flowers were!

The flower arch that they created was the centre piece of our ceremony and was a beautiful wildflower meadow! Cumberland Flower Farm also do DIY flower buckets. We chose some of these to be delivered the day before the wedding so we could create our own wildflower centre pieces for the tables. We had so much fun with our family and friends arranging these the night before!

Sweet Times cake Design

Emma at Sweet Times Cake Design made our beautiful wedding cake. It was a stunning two tier buttercream cake decorated with mountain and tree designs to complement the setting in the Lake District. This was finished off with flowers from our florist. The flavours were amazing and all of our guests loved it! One tier was white chocolate, mango and passion fruit and the other was white chocolate and hazelnut.

Stationery maker’s name + review

Paper Swan Stationery

We loved our stationery from Lucy at Paper Swan stationery! Lucy was brilliant and came to our house for an initial consultation to discuss our ideas. We knew we wanted a floral theme to our stationery and were able to personalise one of Lucy’s beautiful designs to suit the theme and colour scheme of our wedding. We also really liked the idea of having an illustration of the venue incorporated into our stationery and Lucy was able to commission an original sketch of the venue which she also framed and gifted to us which was a lovely surprise! We carried the theme from our invitations through to our ‘on the day’ stationery (menus, name cards, welcome signs etc.).

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

We really enjoyed creating some personal touches for the wedding in the lead up to the wedding, with the help of our families! We had decided that we wanted to name each table after a location we had visited together. For the centre pieces, we collected different shapes and sizes of jars and decorated these with hessian and lace and filled them with wild flowers. We placed these on large log slices and added tea lights and fairy lights. We chose our favourite photos from each location and added these to create our centre pieces. The photos also made great conversation starters on the tables! Other home made touches were a personalised post box, rustic lawn games, confetti cones and lots more!

First dance song? Playlist recommendations?

For our first dance song, we wanted something up beat and fun! The day Callum proposed, this song came on in a shop we were in and we both immediately said it would be a great first dance song. We chose ’This Will Be an Everlasting Love’ by Natalie Cole. It was a great choice as it really set the mood for the night and was followed by ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ by Hall and Oates.

Before we had our first dance as Bride and Groom, I had a Father and Daughter dance with my Dad. This was such a special moment and my Dad chose ‘I Loved Her First’ by Heartland.

For our evening music we had the amazing Funtime Frankies band! They had the dance floor packed all night! We really enjoyed picking music for our ceremony as we really wanted the music to reflect us as a couple. We both love The Beatles, and had an instrumental version of ‘Here comes the Sun’ for the bridesmaids and flower girls to walk down the aisle to.

I’m a massive Disney fan and so we had an instrumental version of ‘At Last I See the Light’ from Tangled as I walked down the aisle. We picked three songs to play as we signed the register, one each from our favourite bands. An acoustic version of First date by Blink 182 and All About You by McFly (which all of our friends and family sang along to!). The third song was one that had started to play as we were driving to see our Venue for the first time, ‘Better Place’ by Rachel Platten, and we knew straight away we wanted it as part of our wedding. As we were leaving the ceremony, we had ‘Good Day for marrying You’ by Dave Barnes which set the tone for the rest of the day!

How is your Friday going, lovelies? I’ll be honest: this gorgeous wedding is absolutely brightening our day through a storm of technical ‘issues’ today! What on earth we’d do without the magic and beauty of Lisa & Scott’s Lakes wedding, and the calming, happy vibes of Jaye Peg’s gorgeous photography, we’ll never know!

This is an absolute beauty, and a wedding we’ll remember for a long time to come! The happy couple tied the knot at Broadoaks Country House – quite possibly the Lake District’s favourite cosy-quirky and super welcoming wedding venue. They’ve told us all about their day and recommended some favourite suppliers, so do have a proper scroll through and enjoy! We’ll be cracking open a gin and celebrating the weekend now!

How did you choose your photographer?

As Scott and I are not from the Lake District, finding wedding suppliers was a task but we came across Jaye by chance and we are so glad we did

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Jaye is fantastic! From our first telephone conversation, to our first meeting (in the pub) to the wedding day itself, she was amazing. She put Scott and myself at ease, explained everything in detail and we could not of been happier. Her photography is beyond amazing, our wedding photos are stunning, better than we could of ever imagined.

What’s your fondest memory of your wedding?

We only had a small wedding so having our close family and friends being part of our special day was lovely.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

We choose Broadoaks Country House in Windermere as we got the WOW factor the first time we visited and we both had our heart set on having our wedding day there so when we were told that had availability for us, we were so happy. It is a beautiful place, our wedding coordinator was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her, the staff are second to none and the food is amazing, it was the perfect venue for our special day.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was your shopping experience, was it fun to find your wedding gear?

We loved wearing our wedding outfits. Scott chose his own suit and accessories, all Hugo Boss and he did a great job and looked so smart and handsome. I had the day out with my mum, mother in law to be and my best friend dress shopping, it was a lovely day and I found my perfect dress and veil by Sincerity Bridal at a fantastic shop in Stockport.

Hair & makeup

My hair and makeup was done by Ely and she was just amazing, I let her do what she thought best for me and the results were stunning, such a talented lady and I would recommend her to anyone.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness 🙂

We used Lily Lou’s of Ambleside to create the buttonholes and bouquet. We are both quite horticulturally challenged so we explained our colour theme and vision and they created such beautiful flowers for us.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Our cake was made by The Bakery at No 4 in Kendal. We had decided to have a red velvety wedding cake with real flowers as decoration and they made us a wonderful 2 tier cake, it was the best we had ever tasted and we didn’t want it to end.

Styling and decor

Our venue dressing was created by Purple Swan in Kendal, we told them everything what we would like and how we would like it and they created such beautiful rooms, everything looked amazing and it all got a WOW when ourselves and our guests walked into the rooms.
