It’s been wonderful this weekend to see weddings going ahead again, and we’re feeling really positive for the summer now. Just to have celebrations back is EVERYTHING – and the joy from couples and photographers on our insta is REAL! We have everything crossed for the summer months returning (safely) back to normal. Here at English Wedding we’ve learned that flexibility is key. Being able to make changes at short notice is essential – despite the roadmap out of lockdown stating that by June 21st the number of guests allowed at wedding ceremonies will be unlimited, it’s important to remain open-minded that this could change depending on how the pandemic plays out in the upcoming months.

Whether you’re newly engaged or you’ve waited for your big day through multiple postponements, this summer is shaping up to be full of joyful celebrations as we finally seem to have an end in sight to social distancing rules and COVID restrictions.

We think weddings this summer will be a little special – naturally all weddings are happy occasions to be celebrated, however this year they come with the additional celebration of family and friends coming together once again and seeing each other for the first time in what feels like forever!

American couples have a tradition we’ve yet to really adopt in the UK: the wedding rehearsal dinner. We think it’s a lovely tradition to adopt – a way to introduce people in an informal setting, a distraction from your nerves the day before, and a lovely way of gathering up all your guests who’ve travelled from other towns and counties in readiness for your big day.

In the years after the second world war, weddings were low key, frugal and intimate. But I’ve seen family photos of weddings from those years, and they’re beautiful, treasured family heirlooms. They’ve come to mind many times over the last year, as so many couples have had to postpone and downsize the dream weddings they were hoping for.

This post goes out to to all of you fabulous wedding photographers who are yet to get published on a top wedding blog. It’s scary stepping out of your comfort zone and reaching out to editors and bloggers. Who knows how many submissions they get?! What if you’re rejected… I mean, even if it’s just because they’re super busy, it’ll hurt to hear a ‘no’…. oh, but what if you get a YES when they see your work? Wouldn’t that be amazing?!
