Katy & Ed’s beautiful garden marquee wedding in Wiltshire, with Greg Shingler Photography

I’m so excited to share this gorgeous English wedding with a sublime mix of character and tradition today! Katy & Ed had the perfect summer’s day for their Wiltshire wedding, with a luxury marquee, a stunning floral wedding dress, and groomsmen in top hats and tails! The summer sunshine goes hand in hand with the relaxed vibes of their day, and is captured in the amazing images by Wiltshire wedding photographer Greg Shingler, who gets a glowing review from Ed and Katy.
I really love how this couple made their wedding their own – by staying together the night before, by incorporating little elements of humour (see below for table captains and Concerning Hobbits) and by making family a huge part of their celebrations. It’s a beautiful wedding with more English country garden than many – and all the more captivating for it.

Wedding photographer review

Greg was amazing in every way.
We knew that Greg would be the right person for the job right from our initial call with him.
He was so professional throughout and we always felt we were in a safe pair of hands with him.
On the day, Greg was just part of the furniture in the best way!
He made us all feel at ease and walked us through poses and shots to ensure they were the very best quality.
When we received our wedding album, we were blown away! We would recommend Greg to any couple in search of a wedding photographer.

Wedding Story
Best wedding moment or memory
Katy’s favourite moment was when all the guests were seated for the breakfast and we were waiting at the top of the garden outside the marquee. This was a real ‘pinch me moment’ as it was at this point that we could really take a moment to appreciate all the hard work that went into the day.
Ed’s favourite moment, other than the getting married part, was at the end of the night in the wee hours when it was just Katy, Ed, best man and bridesmaid (best man’s wife) left on the dance floor throwing shapes to heavy metal!
Tell us anything you did differently – any NEW traditions (or if you had none at all!)
Two things come to mind. Firstly, we did not separate the night before the wedding. Neither of us wanted to wake up on the morning of our most important day without each other. It was special to take a few quiet moments together in the morning to let it sink in, before we separated to start getting ready. It also allowed for the only opportunity to practice our first dance!
The second one was ‘table captains’. We gave a bottle of limoncello and a captain’s armband to one person on each table and gently encouraged the bottle to be finished by the breakfast. We found this a really great way of breaking the ice and getting the party started!

Wiltshire wedding videographer name + review
Henry from Cherish Stories was our wedding videographer. Henry was a last minute substitute, as unfortunately our original videographer was unable to shoot the day due to personal reasons. However, Henry was a blessing! Again, very much a ‘fly on the wall’, in the best possible way. The highlight video he edited was gorgeous and was turned around very quickly. We also got full videos of the speeches and the ceremony. We have lost count the number of times we have watched the videos!
Wedding marquee hire name + review
The wedding breakfast was in the garden of Ed’s family home. We had a wedding marquee from Vintage Marquees. This was really special for the whole family, as it a central gathering point for many christmases, birthdays and other celebrations – never quite on the same scale as our wedding! Vintage marquees were excellent, the marquee was wonderful. We were also able to hire other essentials bits, such as the stage, garden furniture and barrel tables!

Our Wiltshire wedding caterers
We’d love to shout out our caterers – luxury wedding caterers First Press Hospitality! James and team were a dream to work with, and everyone remarked on how delicious (and plentiful) the food was.
We wanted to offer sharing platters, rather than a plated meal, again to suit the vibe of a garden wedding. James understood our brief and that, as foodies, we wanted something a little different and came back with an incredible menu.
Following the wedding we also booked James for a family 90th birthday meal – and again, James did not disappoint – we’re trying to think of other occasions we can get him to cater for so we get to eat his food again!
Florist name + review
Flowers At The Conservatory. Sophie was wonderful to work with, and we loved that she is not only a wedding florist local to Devizes but her flower farm is located in the village where we got married. I adore Flemish flower paintings and wanted our church and marquee flowers to encapsulate their feel – bold and dramatic, with an English country garden twist. Sophie nailed the brief, with an explosion of colour and texture. For the bouquets we went in a slightly different direction, using creams and white with some hint of pink to complement my dress without distracting from it, whilst still keeping a relaxed and organic feel to the arrangements.
Hair + makeup by Fig Tree Cabin in Ashley, Box
Mel was wonderful on the morning of my wedding, and my hair and make-up lasted 16+ hours. I went to her for approx 6 months before my wedding for facials and other treatments – all of which I would recommend as her beauty cabin is a gorgeous calm space, located nr Bath.
Wedding cake maker name + review
The Gourmet Brownie Kitchen made us a delicious tiered wedding cake, with a chocolate layer, a Nutella layer, and a brownie layer. It also had our favourite chocolates scattered all over. It was a delicious cake and was very much a crowd pleaser!

Stationery by Katy
Katy designed all of our wedding stationery and then printed it using printed.com. Katy took inspiration for the design from Art Nouveau themes.

Wedding wear
Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!
Katy – I knew I wanted my wedding dress to be a little different, and a bit of a statement.
I didn’t ultimately know what style of dress I wanted to go for and actually found my first trip to try on dresses quite overwhelming – we got engaged in June 2024 and went to look at dresses in August 2024, and it really hit me (in the best possible way) that this was actually happening – we were getting married!
My dress was absolutely stunning and fitted the English garden aesthetic perfectly, with layers of tulle over a stunning rose print fabric and life size silk roses on the shoulders and back.
Ed and the grooms party wore a fairly standard tops and tails from Moss Bros. Ed and the best man wore a baby pink waistcoat, which matched the pink flowers in Katy’s dress. The other groomsman wore a baby blue waistcoat. The best man and the groomsman all had a matching William Morris print tie from Fox and Chave. Ed had a different William Morris print tie, also from Fox and Chave. Everyone wore standard white shirts and black dress shoes.
Styling and personal touches
Ed’s grandmother runs Joan Pressley Hats of Devizes and we made it a requirement that all ladies wear hats. A lot of the guests made special group trips to Devizes to get various hats and that just added to the pre-wedding excitement.
A lot of the work we did was ‘homemade’ to a degree, such as hanging willow tree branches in the marquee and creating all the wedding stationery!
Wedding ceremony and readings
We got married in Worton village church, so it was very traditional from that aspect.
We had our favourite hymns and our some of our best friends doing the readings. One of our friends wrote a very special, touching and Shakespearean reading for us, which was definitely a highlight!
We also had a wedding string quartet – Arcosanti Music – play prior to the ceremony.
During the signings they played Concerning Hobbits, which echoed Ed’s nerdy side! They then moved from the church to re-set at the house to play during the reception.
Wedding planner name + review
Katy is an event manager, so hats off to her as she was very organised from the off! We got engaged at Glastonbury and the Monday after we got home, the church was already booked! We were on it in terms of key suppliers and made sure they were all booked in plenty of time! For the day itself, we had Wedding Co-Ordinators Alice and Charlotte from V&A Weddings. Alice and Charlotte were god-sends and they really helped us (more so Ed!) with the stresses of the day. Nothing was too much for them and they really went above and beyond to make our special day, as special as it could be!
