2012 wedding industry awards venue

The best wedding suppliers were announced at the Cafe de Paris in London

The 2012 Wedding Industry Awards Event was held last night, with winners in the national categories announced. Congratulations to all the winning wedding suppliers — well deserved in every category.

In the spirit of the fabulous organisation of this event, the national results are already on the official website (somebody must be updating the site with a sore head this morning!) for the world to see.

New sponsor welcome: Belinda McCarthy

wedding photography in Somerset (1)

Belinda McCarthy is a bit of a famous name for wedding bloggers, I think… one of those lovely, generous people who reads and leaves the most charming comments on so many blog posts — and I’m delighted to welcome her as a new sponsor of English Wedding Blog.

Somerset Wedding Photography

Belinda has her very own dedicated English Wedding Showcase Page where she’s written a little introduction to her business — along with more gorgeous photos from weddings.

Belinda told me, “Weddings are such an amazing platform of emotions, drama, exceptional moments and true tenderness, that they’re a privilege to work on.”

What next for vintage wedding photographers?

Hands up anybody in wedding-land who hasn’t heard about last week’s article on The Huffington Post about the end of the vintage wedding trend? Yeah, I knew there wouldn’t be any hands up. So — what does it mean for the wedding industry? Not much. Trends come and go. But there is one thing…

Musings on wedding industry awards

I’ve been musing a lot recently. Thinking about this industry, the financial side of weddings, the way it all works and what motivates people in the wedding industry. For many of us it’s the thank you card from a happy customer; the email saying how wedding guests commented on our work. It’s also the sheer love of our jobs that keeps us going.

How to buy wedding jewellery with a clear conscience

When you start planning your wedding, there is so much to think about. Huge decisions often need to be made and some of the smaller, but still important issues can easily be forgotten.

One of the decisions that may be overshadowed by which venue to have, or where to go on honeymoon, is where to buy your wedding jewellery from. It’s easy enough to walk in to a high street jeweller and select something you like, but have you and your partner considered where the gold, platinum or stones comes from?

Autumn, the wedding industry and Narnia

Do you love or hate autumn? When there’s a crisp chill in the air, you wake up in darkness at 7am, the heating goes on and winter woollies come out — do you hide or rush out to play in the rusty leaves?

I had the idea of a new wedding blog post with my friend and Tiararama designer Suzanne Laughlin: to shout out and share the things we love about autumn. Because at the end of the wedding season the wedding industry doesn’t sleep: instead, we get inspired. The smell of autumn on the air, the hazy sunshine and being all toasty inside… it kicks off that creative buzz. I wanted to share some of that with you!

New sponsor welcome: Kat Forsyth Photography

Hi everyone! I have a lovely new sponsor to tell you about this morning: a lady with a passion and a story — wedding photographer Kat Forsyth has joined our little team on English Wedding blog.

Kat is a wedding photographer from South Africa, who specialises in fun, fresh and natural wedding photography with an artistic and creative feel. If anyone’s now thinking, “well that’s a bit of a long way” — Kat has joined English Wedding as a sponsor because she’s moving to the UK in early 2012 and, very happily for English brides and grooms, she’s going to be a London wedding photographer (she’ll be happy to travel anywhere for a wedding, of course!). Which is fab!

Jane Austen bridal shoot behind the scenes

Yesterday I blogged a brilliantly eccentric bridal shoot from The Wedding Affair, with photography by Joe Dodsworth and set at Newby Hall. You will of course remember it for the antique military uniform, sword — who knew Wilkinson Sword made swords?! — and Ben, the horse. Missed it? Click: Jane Austen inspired bridal shoot

Today I have some behind the scenes photos from the shoot to share with you. They’re all by wedding photographer Nicky Chadwick, who was there to ‘shoot the shoot’ — so we get to see what goes on at a bridal shoot like this one. First of all — yesterday’s blog convinced me Anastasia had fallen from the pages of a Jane Austen novel. So let’s start with her looking very 21st century…
