Why choose documentary wedding photography?
Ok. I may be a bit biased about this, being a documentary wedding photographer myself. There’s a lot you may disagree with & I think documentary wedding photography is either something you love or hate. But I love it so I think I should outline why I think it’s the perfect way to bottle the spirit of a wedding day. I am going to back it up with some words from my couples, too, though.

Sometimes all the trends from every generation just seem to merge into something extra special. In fifteen years of writing about weddings, I’ve seen everything from vintage to fine art, boho and timeless weddings go by. A favourite “trend” for me was intimate weddings, which followed the 2020 pandemic out of necessity. And through all of these trends, one constant remained: the longing for a unique and different wedding.
There’s something so magical about a summer wedding. But while the idea of tying the knot under sunny skies sounds like a dream, the reality can be a little more sweaty. Heat, humidity, and formalwear aren’t always the best combination, especially when you’re the one in the spotlight. If you’re the groom or bride, staying cool, comfortable and photo-ready is entirely possible with a bit of clever planning. Here’s how to survive a sizzling summer wedding without melting under the pressure.
Believe it or not, content creators weren’t a thing a couple of years ago, especially not in weddings. In 2025, they’re everywhere, causing a delightful splash on the wedding scene and providing a sought-after service for modern couples excited to share their day online. I’ve met some fabulous content creators, and spoken to wedding photographers who love working alongside them.
But the rise of wedding content creators has instigated some interesting discussions online: from a tiny minority who’ve caused problems for wedding photographers (because this has been a learning curve for everyone!) to established pros wondering if wedding photography has a future at all. (It does!) At this point I had to step up and explain why you still need a wedding photographer, even if you’ve booked a content creator to capture your wedding.
