Lizzie and Dan’s wedding is a classic – timeless styling, an elegant colour palette and beautiful sunshine… the flowers are lush, in a soft palette of dusky pinks, and the beautiful atmosphere they created is one of tranquility and romance. Lizzie is stunning in her Cizzy Bridal dress, and Dan is every bit the classic English groom in a smart navy suit with Ted Baker waistcoat.  The venue is Wadhurst Castle, and all of their lovely photographs are by Nick Davies Photography.

I loved getting ready- we used the bridal room in the castle so both mums and my bridesmaids had the whole morning together- it was such fun, we gave out pressies and Dan had written me a great card which made me laugh and cry! I also remember the moment the door opened to the walled garden & I saw all of the guests turn as I walked up the aisle, from then it really was the most amazing whirlwind!

Gorgeous newlyweds Fiona and Ashley’s spring wedding from Stratton Court Barn is just fabulous – they used rich purple tones to create a luxe, sophisticated wedding theme and chose a venue with oodles of cosy character which needed just a few creative touches to bring it to life. With a canopy of fairy lights and pretty floral styling, this is a lovely wedding I’ve been excited to share with you! We searched for photographers in Oxfordshire and looked at lots of websites! We wanted a more natural style of photography and we didn’t want our photos to look too posed, so we narrowed down our search by picking photographers who fitted our desired style. We used price to narrow down our search further as we had a maximum budget in mind. We then had phone calls with our shortlisted photographers as it was important to us that they were easy to talk to and understood what we were looking for. Another thing that we took into account was whether the photographer had been to our venue or whether they would be happy to visit the venue beforehand, as we wanted them to be familiar with the layout and where would be good spots to take photos. Carol ticked all the boxes for us.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend. Do keep an eye on our Instagram later today, as we’re going to investigate one of the Lake District’s most beautiful destination wedding venues – we’ll be at Storrs Hall from 5pm and I can’t wait to show you (virtually) around!! Before we go though, I have the most wonderful summery wedding to share with you. Esther and Sam’s day is so blissfully bright and happy, with stunning hanging foliage and a vibrant sunflower theme!  Let’s face it… all these autumn leaves are making it a tad chilly so let’s keep the summer vibe going for as long as we can on the blog! Images are by super talented English Wedding Directory member and Norfolk wedding photographer Duncan Kerridge Photography.

My bouquet had some sunflowers in which I loved! My husband keeps buying me sunflowers now…! The bouquets and button holes were all from our own gardens. The flowers in the church were bought by my mum then arranged by a family friend who lives in the village. My Granny dried rose petals from her garden for the confetti. They were all very ‘wild’ and colourful.

Morning lovelies! Are you feeling a little chill in the air today? Autumn is coming… and here on English Wedding we’re racing ahead and bringing you a ski and snowboarding themed wedding! Gorgeous bride Hayley and Matt describe their day as a ‘family celebration après ski party’ – inspired by how they met. 7 years ago, these two were working for a ski company in France, where they met. 5 years later, this is where Matt proposed (on a surprise holiday back to Les Gets). The ski resort theme continued at their DIY wedding in Bedford, with multi-coloured hats and sunglasses as favours, welcome cocktails – even the Save the Dates and invitations were designed as lift passes!

As the great hall was just an empty school hall it all needed decorating including the stairs and entrance hall.
We used fake snow EVERYWHERE, hung snowflakes , built a ski rack and piste map stand (table plan), hung gondolas from the stairs, had drapes from the balconies, uplighting on the pillars, photos and piste maps of places we have been over the walls, different tables (sweets, mountain post box, memory table), snowboards and sledges with lanterns on the top of the stairs and finally a sign post in the entrance.

Good morning, beautiful! How are you on this rather chilly October (!!) day? And can you even believe it’s properly autumn now? I know I can’t… but the best thing about autumn is all the fabulous weddings I’m seeing from lovely couples and photographers all around the country. This has to be the best time of year for wedding blogs, and I feel so lucky! Keep the submissions coming, guys!

Today we have an extraordinarily beautiful wedding, with stunning bride Amy and gorgeous groom Gerard, from Iscoyd Park. Lovely Michelle from Elegante by Michelle J submitted this one, and Gerard and Amy have completed a brilliant interview telling us all about their day. FRIDAY!!! Lovelies, I have to confess I wrote this yesterday because I’m at A WEDDING!! My lovely sister in law is about to get a HUSBAND – in about two hours time – so I’m all bridesmaided-up and heading to the church as this is published!! There’ll maybe be real life wedding stuff on my Insta later (or possibly real life tipsy stuff, which might be equally entertaining!) so if you’re not already following @englishwedding on Instagram, today’s probably a good day to start!

I wouldn’t leave the blog empty for you though, oh no – and happily I have an absolutely stunning wedding to share with you, submitted by lovely Hannah at Casey Avenue. Laura and Josh were married at The Lost Orangery, a stunning venue tucked away in rural Wiltshire. I love how this place is almost hidden from the mainstream wedding industry – it’s a self-catering, super luxurious, exclusive use wedding venue with a beautiful cloister, archway, portico, boat house, orangery and ballroom to call your own. You’ll find it on www.uniquehomestays.com where it’s described as an “exclusive manor house in Wiltshire is a spectacular wedding venue certain to impress wedding guests by exuding a special blend of grandeur, heart and soul” – which sleeps 4, with room for 250 wedding guests and carriages at midnight!

Relaxed outdoor wedding at Cott Farm Barn with images by Heather Birnie Photography on the English Wedding Blog (44)

Hey lovely! I hope your Monday is sailing by happily – mine definitely is, as I have a gorgeous week of weddings, inspiration and ideas for you lined up this week. I’m also busy writing lovely calligraphy bits and pieces for my sister-in-law and her fiancé’s wedding this FRIDAY – eeeeek!!! It’s all VERY exciting at English Wedding HQ this week!

Let’s begin with something absolutely beautiful, shall we? Mikey and Emily, and a gloriously happy summer wedding from The Barn at Cott Farm. These two gorgeous people married outdoors – because this is one of Somerset’s lovely outdoor spaces where you can tie the knot. The steps of the barn are just perfect for the occasion, and the inside is surprisingly lovely: a blank canvas for you to decorate in your very own style, which Mikey and Emily did BEAUTIFULLY!! The barn had been beautifully decorated by the couple the day before using fabrics, foliage and candles; simple yet so perfect.

Bold florals, textures and accents from nature - autumn wedding styling ideas with Oobaloos Photography (36)

A guest article from Henryka

As one of the most colourful and vibrant seasons, it’s hardly surprising that autumn is a popular time to get married. With mild temperatures, beautiful scenery and enchanting nights, it’s easy to understand why. If you have your heart set on a cosy autumn wedding, we’ve compiled a collection of practical tips and style inspirations, drawing on autumn’s vibrant natural beauty to help you create the ultimate rustic wedding.

The location

Scenery is a fundamental feature of any rustic wedding, with barn venues being perhaps the most effective location for that snug, rustic autumn feel – often pairing beautifully with the season’s natural hues.

If a barn location isn’t quite what you’re searching for, try thinking a little outside the box by considering a giant marquee or tipi. Add a personalised touch by embracing the season’s natural colour palette throughout the day, before turning to lanterns, candles and tea lights as the daylight begins to fade, creating the ideal warm and romantic atmosphere.

My top tip for you today, lovelies, is to find a place you love and get married there. It can be that simple… and you don’t have to go out of your way to find a place you love, if there’s already a place! You might have a favourite country pub, or a local beach with amazing views, or a city centre restaurant. Beautiful bride Laura & her gorgeous husband Rick found their perfect venue at the East Quay in Whitstable – with sea views and glorious natural decor inside (plus all the sparkly wonderfulness) it’s sooo perfect for a modern wedding! Our wedding was happy, fun, relaxed, the most marvellous day of our lives, set by the sea with a very relaxed style. The venue is unique with its own style with fantastic views of the sea. We added additional lighting with lanterns on the dance floor and the eating area.

I am totally in denial of any gales blowing a hoolie outside my window right now!! Come and join me because it’s SPRING here on English Wedding and we’re filling our eyes with sunshine and flowers… and the stunning wedding of Milly and Nick. They married at Little Glemham Church in Suffolk, and celebrated with a beautiful reception at  Glemham Hall in May. Their day was traditional and relaxed, with wild white English flowers and luscious greenery in keeping with the Suffolk hedgerows and pebble greys as they were so close to the sea!

I very nearly went for a wedding dress that was entirely different, the first dress had pockets so instantly I loved it but when I went to try it on a second time with a view to putting down the deposit it was 30 degrees outside and I was so uncomfortable, all I wanted to do was get out of it!

A LOT goes on at weddings. They’re magical, romantic… and the busiest days of our lives! With everyone we know all in one place, a schedule to be kept and plans to be followed, it’s no wonder the day goes by in a blur. The top piece of advice couples give in their English Wedding interviews is to take a moment to stop and take it all in, because everything happens in such a rush!

And that’s where photographers come in. The best will capture the moments you missed as well as those you’ll want to cherish forever. York Place Studios get this – and they are uniquely talented in the way they do it. I love how every image tells not just one story, but many. Grab a cuppa and scroll through Sara and Sam’s day slowly, because I promise you’ll chuckle at times, love the romance and all of those precious little interactions between guests which are what really make a wedding.

Katie and Martin are gorgeous, their pics are divine, and they were kind enough to tell us all about their big day – the highlight of their interview for me being when I asked what’s the best thing about being married…

Being part of a team. Knowing that they have seen you at you worst, weirdest, moodiest not to mention seeing you in the morning with messy hair, morning breath old PJ’s that they have chosen you out of the billions of people in the world to spend the rest of their life with.
