Are Personalised Wedding Gifts a Thing of the Past?

Published by Claire Gould on

Wedding trends come and go, but the essence of celebrating love and commitment will never change. One way to celebrate that love is the tradition of gift giving, where, in the quest for a gift uniquely tailored to the happy couple, personalisation has boomed. But with names, initials and quirky one-liners now available on everything from kitchen utensils to candles, has personalisation had its day?

Trends influencing wedding gifting

“I think we’re seeing a major shift towards gifts with purpose, in both senses of the word,” said Catherine. “People are starting to spend more wisely, opting for gifts that have a practical function, but also come from a brand that aligns with the values of the recipient. Couples now tend to live together for extended periods before tying the knot too, so we’re not talking toasters and tea sets. It’s about treating the couple with a quality piece that they love but would never buy for themselves.

Getting personal

Catherine continued: “Is personalisation over? I don’t think so. Each month, as many as 39% of our orders can include personalisation. Names and initials are beautifully hand embroidered by our talented team. Orders for personalisation have steadily increased since our website launched almost ten years ago and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Quality, long-lasting, personalised gifts are still very much in. However, I would say it depends on the product being personalised.

For me, cheaper, single use, novelty products with personalisation are on their way out for sure, as people become more careful with their cash and conscious of the impact of their purchases.”

Three timeless personalised wedding gift ideas
