Catherine & Iain’s beautiful Polhawn Fort wedding, with Martin Dabek Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

As always with a Martin Dabek Photography wedding, I urge you to scroll all the way through to the end for the amazing evening shots, so beautifully lit and breathtaking! Today we’re at Polhawn Fort for gorgeous couple Catherine & Iain’s micro wedding. The pair went through all the stress of postponements and ever-increasing restrictions on guest numbers for their 2020 wedding – but despite being small, this is a really lovely, romantic and heartwarming celebration and I’m proud to be sharing it with you today. Catherine’s dress is a beautiful Stella York gown, and Iain looks fantastic in a navy blue three piece suit. The flowers are glorious, and of course the images by Polhawn Fort wedding photographer Martin Dabek are out of this world.

How did you choose your photographer?

We found Cornwall wedding photographer Martin Dabek using a Google search. We wanted a photographer who would capture the natural beauty of the coastal venue at Polhawn Fort and use this as a backdrop for our photos. We wanted the usual official group photos to be taken but also for the informal moments of the day to be recorded.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

We were all delighted with our choice of Martin as our photographer. His photos were stunning and exactly what we had hoped for. The photos of us on the beach were really special and the impromptu photos of the family captured many moments of laughter and happiness. Martin was polite, friendly and unobtrusive. We would highly recommend Martin to anyone planning their wedding with no reservations.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

Polhawn Fort was a stunning venue and the weather was kind to us in mid October 2020 which meant we could have an outdoor ceremony and photos on the beach. Sadly the pandemic restrictions curtailed the full benefits of the venue since we were only able to have 6 people staying in the bedrooms and only 15 people at the wedding but once restrictions are lifted, it will once again become an idyllic wedding venue.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

The wedding dress was designed by Stella York Ramira 6717 and bought at Prudence Gowns in Exeter which shutdown during the Pandemic in 2020. The dress was beautiful but needed significant alterations. Alicia Bevan alterationsbyalicia@outlook.com is a seamstress based in Exeter who despite the pandemic restrictions, altered the dress expertly and I cannot recommend her more highly. A real find.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

Ruth Andrews was our florist and created some beautiful displays and bouquets. Our chosen colour of blue was not easy in October but she coped splendidly. We would highly recommend her.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

The wedding cake was made by the groom’s mother. Three tiers with a special shell design icing.: it looked stunning and was delicious.

Did you personalise your vows or have any wedding readings? What were they?

The 2 wedding readings we chose were:

UNION by Robert Fulghum

A LOVELY LOVE STORY by Edward Monkton which we adapted to suit our own personalities

Favourite wedding suppliers

Caterer: Richard McGeown (Couches Great House restaurant Polperro) https://www.couchspolperro.com/ was our caterer- not only was his food delicious, his service and attention to detail amazing, but he guided and supported us throughout the many changes to our plans that the pandemic and the Government restrictions imposed. He never gave up and adapted from the original 120 guests right down to the 15 guests we were eventually allowed. He deserves a medal and he was definitely our knight in shining armour.

Hair stylist: Lisa Gadsby Bridal Hair was a delight and managed seamlessly to style 6 bridesmaids (who were only allowed in the building one at a time due to restrictions), a guest and the bride single handedly following Government COVID19 restrictions all before a 12noon wedding.

Taxi firm: 24Seven taxis 01752 815815 Excellent service throughout the weekend. They happily adapted to last minute changes and were well priced and very friendly..
