The moments of joy that happened in 2020 feel more significant than ever before. Those rare weddings where couples got to say their vows, the celebrations of love amongst the tragedy of the pandemic… these feel sweeter than ever, and so beautiful. Meredith and Charlie’s wedding had only 15 guests, with loved ones tuning in via zoom from all over the world. They married at Priston Mill in Bath, and chose Somerset wedding photographer Martin Dabek to capture their day. The images are outstanding, and Martin gets a glowing review from the happy couple below! This stunning pair worked with some fabulous wedding suppliers, all mentioned in their interview especially for English Wedding.

How did you choose your photographer?

We spoke to a few wedding photographers way back in 2019 when we got engaged, but Martin completely impressed us with his gorgeous photos and we got on with him so well from the outset! He was so friendly and professional, and really listened to us (as we were not used to being photographed!) and completely put us at ease from that first meeting.

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer? Do tell… we love a brilliant review!

Martin’s photos were incredible! We barely noticed him (even with a small wedding guest list) and he just captured so many wonderful candid shots as well as the beautiful portraits throughout the day. There was so much laughing and he captured it perfectly.

Tell us about your venue – what made this place special for you?

We got married at Priston Mill in Bath, and it was actually the only venue we visited in person. As soon as we arrived it felt like the right place: beautiful historic features in the Tythe Barn, gorgeous countryside all around and everyone who worked there was so accommodating and incredibly helpful. Especially as we had to deal with the extra challenge of going from a 100+ person wedding to a 15 person event, the Priston team was a total dream, and the venue still felt so full and extra special, despite the change in numbers.

Did you love wearing your outfits? How was the dress / suit shopping experience?

We were both quite decisive with our clothing choices actually. I (Meredith) tried on several dresses at Ellie Rose Bridal in Bath and I think my dress was the second one I tried on! I kept coming back to it so it just felt like the one instantly. Both of us chose our outfits extremely early on in the planning process, so being forced to wait an extra several months was a bit of a pain, but it was very fun getting dressed up for the big day and then seeing each other after such a long wait.

Did you hire a florist? Tell us about any floral amazingness

Ella at Flowers of Bath did an incredible job with the flowers inside the venue and then for the bridal bouquets. She worked really well with Meredith’s mum to design the “scene” and as we hadn’t necessarily chosen specific flowers beyond what was seasonal, it was amazing to be surprised and see how they actually looked inside the Tythe Barn, after all of our ideas over the planning year(s)! Ella was super and really responsive and encouraging of our ideas, even though we were not flower experts.

As cake lovers here at English Wedding we’d LOVE to know who made your cake, and how delicious it was?

Anna Cakes of Bristol made the most delicious cube cake of strawberry, lemon and vanilla for us to cut and share. We also had “covid-secure” cubicakes – Anna’s specialty – so everyone got to bring their own set of cakes home as a wedding favour. All the cakes were delicious and Anna was so understanding with all the number changes and hurdles we had to deal with.

Tell us about any special personal touches, or creative projects you made yourselves

We had all the extended family and our friends on zoom, so they could see the ceremony virtually. We had loved ones from all over the world tuning in! We also had absent friends send us video messages that Meredith’s sister spliced into a video for us to watch after the wedding breakfast.
