Reportage wedding photography has my heart. In the 10 years since English Wedding began I’ve seen thousands of weddings. They all have a story, they’re all personal and unique and beautiful. And the images which capture the spirit and story of a wedding are the images which will stand the test of time. Always.
So it’s with genuine pleasure that I’d like to introduce you to one of my favourite reportage wedding photographers in the UK. Sussex wedding photographer Martin Beddall specialises in reportage photography (otherwise known as documentary wedding photography, or wedding photojournalism) – his website is a brilliant place to go to see what reportage wedding photography is all about.
Wedding photography for couples who don’t want all that old fashioned, traditional setup stuff – but instead, want their wedding day captured in a series of natural, evocative images, that capture the atmosphere of the day. The story of the day. Natural, honest, unobtrusive reportage wedding photography.
As a wedding blogger the more weddings I see, the more I realise what’s important – it’s time, and honesty, and expert storytelling which will capture the spirit of your friends and family: your grandma’s gentle smile and your sister’s belly laughs. It’s about picking up your album in twenty years time and being transported instantly back in time, so you can remember how it felt to be there, celebrating with everyone you love.
Martin Beddall’s reportage wedding photography style has evolved over years working as a wedding photographer. Previously he was a photojournalist at The Times newspaper. As your wedding photographer he will capture images which tell the story of your wedding day so you can relive the day when you first see your photos, and in many years to come when you look back through your wedding album.
Weddings have it all. The characters, the emotions, the atmosphere, the details, the moments. It’s a dramatic storyboard there in front of me, ready to be recorded. To watch, observe, anticipate and then compose images that mean so much to my clients. Merging into the background with the camera. The photography reflects the day, rather than impose upon it with lengthy portrait sessions or traditional setups. ~ Martin Beddall Photography

“We were astounded by Martin’s photos, they beautifully capture the entire day. He really is a true artist. No setup shots or group shots. I adore the way each photo tells a story and we will treasure them forever. He is excellent value for money. I cannot recommend him enough!” – Francesca & David
“Martin was everything we hoped he’d be and more. His images blew me away and captured everything we had tried to create for the last year. His photos proved he was everywhere but we never saw him and he was everywhere that mattered. His style and timing is quite unique from everything I’ve seen of other photographers. He has allowed us to relive our day whenever we want through a new and beautiful pair of eyes” – Alice & Matt
