Jess and Martin’s vibrant summer sunflower wedding at Lemore Manor, with Amanda Karen Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

Whenever I look at Jess and Martin’s wedding pictures I find myself smiling right back at the screen. Jess is beautiful; her smile infectious. Their day is full of lovely moments and the prettiest details – and bursts of colour with sunflowers and summer flowers to make my heart sing!

I (Jess) went to a wedding fayre in London with my mum and we bumped into Amanda and James. I loved their style of photography and after chatting to James, I instantly knew they were the photographer for us and they truly were.

Amanda and James are just brilliant, there aren’t enough positive words to describe them. We met for a pre-wedding shoot and they instantly put us at ease. On the day Amanda photographed the bridal party and it felt like she was one of the girls! Amanda and James blended in with our guests and their style of photography is fantastic.
The first time we saw our wedding photos we were absolutely blown away. Amanda and James managed to capture the happiness, magic and details of the day. When we look through our photos it’s like reliving our special day all over again!

Most of our wedding was homemade; table cloths, centre pieces, personalised engraved placemats, wedding favours, clutch bags for the bridesmaids, hangers for the bridesmaid dresses and the jam for the scones.

We had woodland tree centre pieces with fairy lights centred on logs. Our name places were wooden log pieces with each guests name burned into them. We sanded and burned on the names ourselves. Our favours were personalised hessian bags with hand sewn leaves, placed in a personally decorated glass latte glass. This reflects that we met at Starbucks. Our tablecloths were green voile with ivy leaves sewn onto them.

It was important to us to have a personalised and handmade wedding. All our family members contributed and it made the day all the more special. We chose a tree stump style cake with a chequered sponge to reflect the kilt tartan. We had one tier of cake and then scones, with cream and 3 different types of homemade jam. We love a cream tea!

Can you describe your wedding in fewer than 10 words?

Summery, wild flower, colourful, enchanted, personal and intimate.

Your wedding style or theme:

Enchanted garden theme – wild flowers

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Wedding fairs
Online searches mainly

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Be realistic with your expectations, make compromises and don’t stress if you have to cut back. We didn’t have everything we initially wanted and made a lot of cutbacks and compromises and we didn’t miss any of it.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Photography, videography and the food.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

Invitations were from Nessa Noelle on Etsy. They were a woodland theme.
Our seating plan was home made by my mum.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Absolutely. I did some research and found the designer I liked the most but went with an open mind. I tried on a few different styles but ended up with the one I loved the most. It was love at first sight.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Sophia Tolli, Prinia Dress from Tilly Anna’s Cheshire

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

My tiara, choker, bracelet and earrings were from Debenhams.
My shoes were from slaters village in Staffordshire.
My veil was from Tilly Annas.

And what did the groom wear?

The groom (and best man) wore a pride of Ireland tartan kilt hired from Debenhams. They looked fantastic!

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

My girls wore made to measure maxi pleated dresses with straps. Each bridesmaid wore a different colour dress and wore a real flower hair garland and had a wild flower bouquet to match their dress colours.
The girls chose their own hair styles, shoes and accessories as it was important to me that those individual styles and personalities came through. They looked gorgeous.
Our flower girl (ages 5) wore a dress from Debenhams, shoes from Debenhams and blue floral hair garland from Accessorize. Her flower basket and artificial petals was purchased from hobby craft and we wrapped ivy around the handles and added glittery butterflies.

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

I went professional as I’m terrible when it comes to hair and makeup. I used one of the venues recommended suppliers Hilary’s Wedlocks. Hilary was amazing, she knew exactly what I wanted and delivered it all on the day. She even did my hair colouring a few days before!

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

Our wedding flowers were a wild flower theme and provided by Cooke and Thomas in Market Drayton. They provided all venue flowers, button holes, corsages and bouquets. We didn’t give them much of a brief just a general idea and said surprise us!

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

It’s such a beautiful venue and the grounds perfectly complimented the theme of our wedding. However to achieve the look we wanted we took along quite a few of our own homemade decorations.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We used Pete Stead DJ who was brilliant and also acted as our master of ceremonies. Our guest waiting music was film themed; jurrasic park opening theme and pirates of the carribean he’s a pirate. Our first dance was to Nathan Sykes over and over again. Pete took requests and we asked guests for song suggestions on their RSVP’s and all of these were included.

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Enjoy the day as it goes so fast. Don’t get bogged down in the minor details and relax it truly is the best day of your lives, take it as it comes.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Everything! It’s nice to feel more unified and bonded together. Although a new married name and using the words “husband” and “wife” still take some getting use to!
