As we nestle further into our chunkiest knits and wrap our hands around mugs of steaming hot chocolate here at English Wedding Blog HQ I have just a couple of inspirational features to share with you before Christmas. It’s been an amazing year; I’m still full of the joys of the festive season and that’s very much thanks to the guys at Aspire Photography Training. Our last shoot of 2016 was full of winter wonderfulness and I simply had to share some of these ideas with you before we break up!

ideas for a wonderful winter wedding theme with Jenny Heyworth at Aspire (34)

Catherine (White Feather & Co.) – stylist, business mentor and the most inspirational person I know – chose pine branches and eucalyptus stems alongside brass candlesticks and copper cutlery to create a winter tablescape; warmer tones contrasting with the foliage beautifully. Bouquets were styled by the fabulous Katie at Made in Flowers.

You simply can’t have a winter wedding without an amazing photographer, and Jenny Heyworth is up there with the best I know. She has the most romantic, atmospheric style to her images and trains photographers as part of her work at Aspire. You can discover more from Jenny here:

Outdoor weddings are a really exciting opportunity for UK brides and grooms in 2014. More and more venues are offering outdoor spaces where you can have your civil ceremony, and rustic styling with influences from nature can be as gorgeous as it is a dream to create!

DIY rustic wedding ideas (4)

But faced with a lawn, a gazebo or an ornate bandstand for your wedding ceremony, how do you begin to decorate your space? Many couples want to personalise their ceremony backdrop and make it theirs, and I think that’s a wonderful idea. Carrying on the theme to wedding tables for the reception will help coordinate your day – and it’s ever so easy to DIY with a little help from the experts!
DIY rustic wedding ideas (2)

I was delighted to be involved in this rustic and natural DIY inspiration shoot with lovely Surrey wedding photographer Karen Flower. Karen told me how much she’d enjoyed styling the shoot, and said “We did all the styling ourselves and used my own linen and bought containers from Ikea” – and isn’t it amazing what you can achieve?!

Don’t you think there’s something extra romantic about winter months? There’s a wonderful sense of magic in the air… that first snowfall, frosty patterns on windows… and (perhaps it’s just me) the secret pleasure of pretending to breathe like a dragon when it’s cold enough to see your breath?! I really do love winter. I love candles and cosy evenings, and I love the magic this season evokes. If you’re like me you’ll love today’s winter wedding inspiration shoot as much as I do!

The shoot was sent to me by Plenty to Declare Wedding photography www.plentytodeclare.com and wedding designer and stylist Petra Opperman www.petraoppermanweddings.co.uk. There’s a full list of the Buckinghamshire wedding suppliers involved in the shoot at the end of the post for all you Bucks brides and grooms! Marek and Daria from Plenty to Declare (who are so lovely and charming – their emails caught my heart straight away!) will share the meaning behind the shoot with you. It’s inspiring and oh so beautiful in every detail. Enjoy!

I’ve been waiting for so long to share this wedding inspiration blog with you! It’s rare that I get a sneak peek of what’s behind the scenes at a shoot myself… but this time I had insider info (which I’m about to share) on one of the most inspiring and creative projects you’ll see all year!

Think Once Upon A Time, only better. Think of fairytales with real danger and drama – there’s no Disney princess here, but a stunning bride and a glamorous temptress. Think of your woodland wedding theme, a quintessentially English wedding day with china and delicate floral crowns and decor, exquisite stationery and dresses to die for.

Dresses are from The State of Grace, Miss Bush Bridal Wear, and Faith Caton Barber. The shoot was styled by Lady Amy Wedding Design and make up is by Nina Singh.

Rainbows – the closest thing to magic we get to see in our English skies. I’ve never lost that girlish excitement I feel when I see one. I’ll stop in my tracks and grin up at the sky every time – and I definitely believe rainbows are lucky omens! So what better inspiration for styling a wedding? Rainbows have it all: luck and happiness, colour and fun!

Today’s English Wedding Blog feature is all about love and rainbows. Lovely Laura from Perfect Choice Planning got in touch to share this amazing inspiration shoot with me and I was hooked instantly. The images are divine, it features one of my favourite wedding industry friends Beth from Cakes by Beth, and the brides in the shoot are a real life couple –  their images have an exquisite tingly quality you’ll love!

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a lovely week. I’m working on a few little blog features for the weeks ahead and I’ve had to turn off the TV, avoid reading anything online or in magazines and steer pretty clear of wedding blogs and websites – as well as my inbox!

The Great Gatsby

Is it me or do they look a tiny bit bored already?

Why? I’m all Great Gatsbied-out.

Art Deco is a wonderfully inspiring style. It doesn’t quite fit with my wedding calligraphy business, but the striking lines and impactful fonts make for amazing wedding stationery. The glitz and glam are to die for as far as wedding dresses and bridal accessories go. But I need to make a confession: it’s not really me.

So I’m looking for fresh alternatives to Gatsby styling and wedding ideas which aren’t inspired by art deco this week! Can you help me?

Springtime, anyone? I think the whole country is holding its breath and waiting for cherry blossom, sunshine and open windows! So while we all shiver and look wistfully outside, here’s a little spring wedding blog inspiration for you all.

story wedding photography

I couldn’t resist sharing this shoot when Lorna got in touch the other week. It’s all about achievable bridal ideas with a soft, vintage style. Elegance and details come easily with a little planning – have a look at these ideas and be inspired! With thanks to Lorna from Story Wedding Photography for submitting such a gorgeous inspiration shoot to the English Wedding Blog! There’s a full supplier list for you at the end of the feature today. Enjoy! Claire xxx

Beautiful spring wedding blog inspiration shoot

“We wanted our little bridal inspiration shoot to be soft, delicate and spring-like. Using a mixture of high-st fashions, vintage props, and simple cakes and flowers we hoped to convey the idea that a wedding doesn’t have to be grand to be beautiful….it is the little details and personal touches that make a day special. We thought the modest victoria
sponge said it all – it might not be as show stopping as a big iced tiered traditional cake, but actually (we can confirm) it tasted a whole lot sweeter!’

Do I need an excuse to share a gorgeous bridal shoot with you this morning? Or can I just jump in?! To be fair, this shoot needs little introduction. It’s for brides who are perhaps planning an autumn wedding, with a very English and chic style. I love it – and the images speak for themselves…

“Our English garden shoot is inspired by natural autumnal woodland and a modern vintage style. We aimed to inspire English brides, to show that they can still look elegant in the colder months and that even a woodland or garden can be perfect as a setting.”

Zen Photographic wedding blog (5)This morning I’m humming “Bring me Sunshine…” – and I also have some gorgeous wedding ideas to share with you. Zenna from Zen Photographic told me about a little ideas session she’d photographed with Cheshire wedding suppliers at Nunsmere Hall, and I loved the images from the day. I am sure they’ll inspire some of you to create bright, beautiful and fun wedding tables just like these!

There are oodles* of ideas here – from wearing flowers in your hair, to creating alternative floral displays for your tables, and styling everything from the wedding cake to the bridesmaids flower garlands to fit a beautiful garden party wedding theme. I hope you love it!

(*I know – but my job description has “Editor” in it, and part of that means I can make words up whenever I like.)

Today’s English wedding blog is dedicated to Trudie. Hello there Trudie! A little while ago I asked for wedding jewellery designers to share their best sparkly creations over on the English Wedding Showcase. It works a little like the wedding magazines: I suggest a theme and ask designers to show off their wares, providing all of you wonderful couples with ideas for your wedding. This time we did jewellery.

Sweet as candy – wedding inspiration & ideas

  • Feature pieces like pink chandeliers or candelabras draped in pink beads make all the difference – either go for sophisticated pink, or splash out and play with it to great effect! You don’t need to go to town, just pick out key touches and go for quality over and above quantity
  • Ask the little girl inside you what goes with pink and she’ll tell you: sparkle, diamonds, crystals and glitter. So add a little twinkle here and there with clear beads, silver and shine

Sometimes the girl takes over. When faced with a sea of pink in, say, Toys R Us, I run in the other direction. But today, seeing this pinkness… it’s like candyfloss, marshmallows and cherry blossom – everything the girl inside me adores. This inspiration shoot is beautifully indulgent, unashamedly pink – and full of ideas for a deliciously feminine wedding style.

Pink is still a favourite colour for brides – and an indulgently pink wedding theme has to say something about the groom too: he’s either head over heels in love and just wants his bride to have the day she’s always dreamed of or he’s in touch with his feminine side! So girls, boys – join me to enjoy lots and lots and lots of pinkness on English Wedding blog today.
