Happy Wednesday, you lovely you! It’s been a week of amazing weddings so far… and today’s is a shining star of a celebration which I just know you’ll adore. Stunning couple Kirsty & Ben were married in Devon on a glorious sunny day. Their day is fun, elegant and full of romance, with moments to make you smile and details to make you swoon! Kirsty’s dress is from Prudence Gowns, and Ben’s suit from Moss Bros. The lovely couple chose our friend and Somerset wedding photographer Simon Biffen Photography to capture their day.

Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life and of course you want to have your nearest and dearest there to celebrate it with. However, if you’re an animal lover you may well be closer to your pet than some of your relatives! The opportunity therefore to include these four legged friends in some aspect of the wedding day has been managed by those keen (or mad) enough to bring them along!

Dogs are a favourite at weddings and seem to sense that something big is happening, hence the fear of missing out is strong and they most definitely want to be a part of the action! They can often be found during the morning preparations where they can be relied on to provide a reassuring cuddle. Later on, if they are deemed responsible enough, they may have some part in the actual wedding ceremony, perhaps as your ring bearer or honorary usher. Often they’ll make a cameo appearance at the wedding reception where havoc generally ensues. Cats are definitely more inclined to take themselves off for a bit of peace and quiet during all this!

Morning beautiful! Ah – isn’t it lovely to have an extra day of weekend though? We’ve just basically been outside the whole time, away from humans and exploring nature. It’s been bliss! How about you? I’ve been thinking about wedding blogging – sometimes it just feels like pure, blissful escapism. I hope you get a flavour of that from reading the blog too! Looking at beautiful weddings all day is an absolute joy and today’s takes stunning to a whole new level! Charlotte and Alex are gorgeous, and their day is just amazing from start to finish – you’re going to LOVE this!

With love,

I also have a bit of a love for pineapples so there was literally pineapples everywhere from our wedding invites, to the bottom of my shoes (Aquazurra), to my flowers and the copious amount of decorations!!

groom epic lift of bride during first dance, image by Simon Biffen Photography

It can be some people’s idea of a nightmare, but for others a chance to cut loose and go wild. The first dance is a wedding tradition that’s not going away anytime soon. There are so many ways that you can tackle this particular moment on your wedding day that I thought I’d share some of the wonderful first dances that I have witnessed, and why they are all perfect in their own way.

So let’s begin with the why. Where did this tradition come from? Turn the clock back a few hundred years and imagine the scene: a grand ball in a fancy stately home, guests from high society gathered and after a sumptuous meal the music begins and two distinguished guests are invited to open the evenings entertainment with a dance. Fast forward to weddings today and the newly married couple are the most important people present and they have the honour of opening the evening proceedings, which has now become a feature of weddings the world over.

Today’s featured wedding was a classic white wedding with the most beautiful church arch. A very relaxed elegant feel with lots of involvement from the family – and the prettiest florals you can imagine. I just love the archway covered in flowers and foliage by lovely Caroline, owner of Foxy Buds Floral Design – it makes the prettiest backdrop for photos and has a traditional feel to it which I think is wonderful.

The brief I gave my florist (Caroline at Foxy Buds) was “White with greenery presented in a natural/wild style.” And Foxy Buds completely delivered. I was really nervous before the big day because I had completely overdosed on Pintrest and Instagram and so I thought it would be impossible to bring that picture in my head to life. That nervousness was a complete waste of time – Caroline’s flowers were more beautiful that anything I had seen elsewhere. James and I constantly referred to the word “relaxed” when talking about what we wanted from our big day and that’s exactly the same feel I wanted (and got) from the flowers.

Who’s in the mood for a special treat this lovely afternoon? Because – it’s your lucky day, I have just the thing! Described as ‘the happiest bride on the planet’ and incredibly beautiful, Steph married her soulmate John a few weeks ago in rural Staffordshire – and I can’t resist showing you their wedding!

The gorgeous couple married at Domvilles Farm guest house, which is the most charming rural setting you can imagine. The cherry blossom was still at its very best and the details of the day were chosen to compliment the season. There’s pretty gypsophila and a delicate rose bouquet; a naked cake complete with Wookie (click the ‘see more’ link for that one!), handwritten chalk board menu and table plan and a gorgeous teepee…

I’m never happier than with my nose in a book – and a book lovers’ wedding is guaranteed to tickle my blogging fancy every time! So I’m delighted to show you Holly and Tom’s Somerset wedding today. They married at Taunton School and held their reception in the school library: a wood panelled room with a high, arched ceiling and shelves full of gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful books!

There’s a saying I’d never heard before! If you’re worried about rain on your wedding day, it’s one to remember. Pips and Ian were married back in May, and you might say they were unlucky with the weather… but seeing their wedding photos I don’t think it matters for a second.

Imagine you have everything set up for your big day: the marquee is beautifully decorated, and instead of heading outside to smoke or play giant Jenga, all of your guests are together inside. It’s what makes a wedding so special, isn’t it? Everyone you love together in the same room to celebrate with you? It certainly was a special day for Pips and Ian, and their wedding looks like a wonderful day – umbrellas included!

I love these two. Helen and Dan – a bride and groom so gorgeous and full of personality you’ll wish you’d been there on the day. Their wedding had lots of lovely yellow details: a rose bouquet in two shades; beautiful bridesmaid dresses and a fabulous cake. Bailbrook House is magnificent: a Grade II* listed country house hotel located just a few minutes from the centre of historic Bath.

Helen is such a stunning bride, wearing a pearl- and sparkle-embellished dress with the loveliest waistband. Her hair piece is divine; her glasses stylish and sassy. Dan wears a great tweed suit – as their wedding photographer (the lovely Simon Biffen) says: “Dan cut a fine figure in one of the sharpest tweed suits I’ve ever seen.”

Jon and Claire were married in May, at a Derbyshire wedding venue I’ve never featured before – the lovely Newton House, set in a rural location not far from Burton upon Trent. The barn where Jon and Claire held their reception is wonderful – a blank canvas for a rustic or vintage wedding, which today’s bride and groom decorated to great effect!
