There’s an art to buying and selling wedding business stories

Sometimes I wish I was Hans Christian Andersen. I’d love to be able to tell a compelling story – and for my story to sell my wedding business. Back in 2005 when I started my wedding calligraphy business, stories meant nothing. Websites had to be professional: “we sell calligraphy” or “we pride ourselves on customer service”…

yawn.

Then Etsy happened. Lucy Ledger made an impression with her wedding business story. Annabel and Kat won our hearts and the blogosphere went crazy. Opinions and reviews overtook straplines and marketing. The internet went mad for people – and personalities began to shape the web. Brides and grooms were buying into the stories and sellers they loved – and businesses blossomed because of them.

Playing on a mountain… just a quick drive from my house!

Your wedding business needs a story – and its story is YOU!

Etsy sellers need a fascinating ‘about me’ story. The best shops have faces (people-faces!) and personalities. Buyers – whether they’re brides and grooms, mums and dads or crafters – want to know who they’re buying from.

I love how today’s beautiful bride Claire describes her wedding, don’t you? She and Martin were married at The Hillbark Hotel on the Wirral, and chose lovely Jamie from Vickerstaff Photography as their wedding photographer. The images are wonderful and I’ve been so excited to share the wedding with you! What better way could there possibly be to begin the week?!

The gypsophila (baby’s breath) bouquets and the bridesmaids’ flower crowns are lovely. Claire’s dress is stunning, and together she and Martin make a gorgeous couple. The venue is magnificent, dating back to 1891 and with that classic old English black and white Victorian front… oh! and can you believe they moved this wedding venue in 1930? All of it, brick by brick. Why? Because the owner’s wife wanted it in a different place! Now that’s devotion for you!

Hello again! I’m happy to be bringing you a little sprinkle of summer again this morning. Sophie and Jonathan had a lovely English country garden inspired wedding and were blessed with glorious sunshine. Today’s blog is full of the prettiest details in delicious pastels – and of course, a beautiful bride, handsome groom and some romantic moments to capture your heart.

The images today come from Ross Alexander at Moment Photography. Sophie’s wedding report includes an amazing review for Ross along with details of other top wedding suppliers (check out the florist too! – wow!). The wedding reception was at The Castle Hotel in Taunton, Somerset.

Pastel roses, creatively stamped luggage labels, birdcages, candles and wicker hearts… oh, and Spiderman. Anna and Adam’s beautiful English wedding is both inspiring and achievable – something I always try to show on the blog. It’s important to me that you can take ideas from every wedding featured, and use those ideas to create your own wedding styling.

Hello everyone! Are you sitting comfortably? I’ve been looking forward to showing you the photos of Laura and Peter’s very pretty vintage wedding from May. There are plenty of special touches and ideas which I know you’ll love, and I think Laura and Peter’s wedding report is pretty inspiring as well. pretty vintage wedding by Linus Moran Photography (1)

Best bits for me, in a nutshell, are the gorgeous bride and handsome groom (of course!) and the pretty details – lovely flowers and dinky jam jars with cute labels. I also love the pictures of the game of football in evening sunlight. (Top tip for ushers: take a ball or two to the wedding just in case!) And I would love to hear your comments for Laura and Peter at the end of today’s feature. What do you make of their choreographed dance? The guests who were stood on chairs and tables watching seem to love it!pretty vintage wedding by Linus Moran Photography (2)

Huge thanks to lovely Linus Moran Photography for the images. Please scroll down to see recommended wedding suppliers and read all about today’s pretty vintage wedding on the blog – I love it and I hope you will too! Claire x

Hello everyone! Who’s got sunshine this afternoon? I’m going to quickly share a couple of highlights from a Warwickshire wedding with you – do click through to read more and see how beautiful bride Rachel and her groom Nick combined vintage touches with elegant English wedding styling.

by Alix Marina-Chouhan, Lumiere Photography

Nick and Rachel got married at Bosworth Hall last year- I know I am behind with my blogs!- and time went so fast that we didn’t have time for all the shots we had planned. I offered to come back in the morning but they were happy to leave it as their day actually went. They oozed happiness and I know they have kept as happy as they were, we have kept in touch and Nick ordered a huge multi frame of their wedding photos for their first anniversary- paper.

Here are a few photos. To see more go to http://www.lumiere-photography.co.uk/weddings/bosworth-hall-wedding/

Hello lovely you! It’s time to set feet firmly on the ground once again with our ‘Focus On’ series about the moments that make a wedding. This time we’re looking at wedding venues… and odd choice perhaps, but venues play a huge part in creating the atmosphere of your wedding day. From rustic and cosy to chic city locations, English wedding venues come in all shapes and sizes. These are some favourites!

I asked for photographers to share their best images of English wedding venues for this feature and they certainly didn’t disappoint! The images on this blog post are my picks from all of those submitted, and I’m only sorry I couldn’t share them all. So – is your venue on the list? Which is your favourite photograph? Thank you to all the photographers who shared images for this feature – and enjoy. Claire xxx

I’m always awestruck by the time and effort that goes into planning a wedding, so reading that Melissa designed her own wedding dress really impressed me! Add in all the creative touches to this beautiful English wedding and this is instantly a blog favourite.

The gorgeous couple have the most romantic story and their wedding is simply wonderful too. Watch out for the cutest leaf name place settings, apple menu holders, flower jars with rustic twine, log table numbers and the burlap seating plan… all out of this world. The highlight of course has to be Melissa’s dress – I know you’ll love it.

Congratulations to the lovely Melissa and Jamie, and thank you to Shaun Taylor Photography for submitting their wedding for us all to share today. Enjoy! Claire xxx

English Wedding Blog this may be… but it’s a well-kept secret that I simply can’t resist crowds of men in kilts. So it’s with sheer delight and totally inappropriate excitement that I’m sharing this gorgeous and fun English country wedding with you all today.

English country wedding (1)

Emily and Scott’s wedding is simply beautiful (I’ve stopped talking about the kilts) – the details are sublime. I love the wedding cake: tiers with lovely blue flowers, Emily is a real beauty and her dress is exquisite! The blue theme works so gracefully; the wedding car is sumptuous – and the photography in the ruins is out of this world. All photographs are by fabulous Sussex wedding photographers Tino & Pip.

Such a gorgeous bride and groom as well… this English country wedding has everything. Wonder if there’s a spare usher? Everyone – enjoy!

Who proposed, and how? Scott took Emily to a remote beach on Holy Island (just off the coast of Northumberland) and proposed at sunset with the engagement ring and a bottle of champagne. A total surprise to Emily!

Today is for any English Wedding Blog readers who haven’t considered an ordinary village hall as a reception venue. I love the idea of a wedding celebration somewhere like this – yes, it takes hours of work. But Gemma and John’s wedding will show you the transformation is more than possible…

wedding blog funkypixel photography (29)

Gemma and John were married earlier this year in Kent. They had a church ceremony and with the help of Gemma’s mum, transformed a village hall into a fairytale wedding venue for a princess bride!

Think pink pom-poms, fairy lights, handmade table decorations, wishing trees… it’s gorgeous. No apologies for this fabulously pink, beautiful dream of an English Wedding. The photography is by lovely James Heffernan at funkypixel; the wedding report is by the beautiful bride Gemma.

Who proposed, and how? John proposed on a family holiday in Menorca 2011, on stage in front of a room full of people! He got down on one knee and pulled out a beautiful ring and of course I said yes!

Every English wedding should have character, and plenty of it. It doesn’t matter where that character comes from: from yourselves, from the venue you loved at first sight, from the wedding dress you adore or from the speeches or band. Your wedding should fit your personalities. It should be an occasion you will both remember fondly in years to come.

English wedding blog Yorkshire Tierney Photography (26)

Cat and Tom’s wedding shows you don’t need to make your own bunting to have a beautiful and personal wedding day which is filled with character. Their Yorkshire wedding is elegant and classically simple, with beauty to be found in Cat’s dress and wedding style (they really are a gorgeous-looking couple!), and in the magnificent wedding venue.

Cat and Tom were married at Yorkshire’s Castle Howard, in The Temple of the Four Winds. It’s stunning. This is how memories are made – and with gorgeous wedding photography by Mark Tierney along with Cat’s wedding report, I’m sure you’ll enjoy taking inspiration from their English wedding blog!
