I’m so happy and excited to be welcoming another brilliant wedding photographer to my little team of handpicked sponsors on the blog today. Last summer I featured a stunning Somerset wedding sent in by lovely Martin Dabek Photography – the images still take my breath away today! It was the first of many weddings I’m looking forward to sharing on the English Wedding Blog, with Martin’s help, over the coming months.

“Hello, I’m Martin, a wedding photographer based in Somerset.

I’ve been capturing incredible memories for my couples since 2009, so far it’s been an amazing journey.

The first wedding I photographed was in Mexico for some friends of mine and since then I have photographed over 250 weddings in the UK and abroad.

Individual, fun and full of colour and personality - a real wedding at Nyland Manor (31)

The colourful, happy vibe of Lucy and Steve’s wedding is just how I’d imagine the perfect wedding to be. Perfection isn’t about colour palettes or a theme, it’s not even about the day running to schedule or being stress free: the perfect wedding is one where everyone is smiling from beginning to end, where the dancefloor is full, where the best memories are unplanned, unexpected and all the more amazing for it. Today’s gorgeous bride Lucy and super handsome groom Steve show us exactly how it’s done…

We made up the flowers ourselves! This was one of my favourite parts of the wedding prep! Our venue didn’t need much decoration but the marquee did! We did this all ourselves, with help from work colleagues, friends and family. We made almost everything! Table centres, the favours, extra bits that went around the venue! I loved doing all of this.

What else does your wedding photographer do? I love that every creative person I know has another string to their bow… some photographers also shoot sports, or families, specialise in SEO or designer stationery. For Jo and Nic (Jo Hansford Photography) it’s something a little more exciting… and I LOVE this shoot!

We’re Jo and Nic, who have been capturing weddings all over UK, overseas in Italy and Spain together since 2003 – over 350 weddings and counting! In 2012 we decided to add a new string to our bow and we started capturing horses. Having grown up loving riding and horses, I was fascinated to capture these stunning, majestic animals in the artform of still photographs.

By the beginning of 2016, it felt like time to combine our two big passions in a creative shoot with horses and brides. Needless to say, we also wanted to do something a bit different!

Nicola and Peter’s woodland wedding is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a blog feature. Plus the details are so wonderfully summery – it really is a dream wedding full of ideas for you to Pin, share, fall in love with and borrow for your own wedding day!

Their enchanting images are by Bristol wedding photographer Martin Dabek, who told me “the spirit of the wedding was great. I always like DIY weddings and this one was no exception. Great party and lovely couple. The venue was in a lovely and very secluded woodland location.”

Nicola’s dress is from Ghost – she looks incredible and I really love her relaxed and effortlessly elegant style. The flowers are from a Bristol wholesale flower market, with some grown by Peter’s mother, and they made the beautiful arrangements together. The venue was decorated with lots of greenery from the couple’s garden, bunting borrowed from and made by friends… and an amazing disco ball which looks fantastic in the woodland setting!

I was so excited when I saw all the lovely images from Madeleine and George’s beautiful wedding – they married on the cusp of spring, and used wild cherry blossom as a key floral theme with darker reds and woodland shades to style their day. Their Vietnamese-English fusion wedding brings a lovely splash of colour with all the fabulous reds, and the portraits of the bride and groom are stunning, as is St Audries Park. You’ll love it!

St Audries Park wedding blog with Life in Focus Photography (17)

“We used pale pink cherry blossom, rich red vanda orchids for a slightly oriental feel and blousy peony like, pale pink ranunculus, along with blue green foliages such as eucalyptus, ice plant. I wanted the bouquet to be natural looking, seasonal and trailing. A hand tied bouquet of flowers with an undulating, flowing and natural outline.

All the flowers in the bride and civil ceremony bridesmaid bouquets, buttonholes, corsages for the tea ceremony bridesmaids and the decorations for the shrine tables, ceremony tables and centrepieces for the wedding breakfast tables used cherry blossom twigs which helped to give a winter into spring feel and the buttonholes and corsages picked up the ruby red, dusky pink colours of the morning ceremony.

Today’s wedding is just beautiful – I love it. The rain makes for a magical story behind the images, which are all the lovelier for it! Della and Aaron make such a gorgeous couple – she’s stunning, and her dress is fabulous. The portraits of the couple are sublime, the cake is something of a masterpiece… absolutely wonderful.

Charlton House wedding blog LoveSeen photography (28)

Our colour palette was very neutral, with tones of pale blush/pink/nude. We wanted our style to be simple and elegant with a slight vintage feel, but not too traditional. Our table names were areas/themes/classical artists of Florence (where Aaron proposed).”

Photographer Clare from LoveSeen remembers the weather very clearly – and I love how she embraced the challenge and came up with some amazing images! “It was relentless rain all day which was a shame as it was an otherwise sunny July. However, this made it more of a creative challenge for me and it was good to be able to put a smile on their faces and come up with some unique ways of showing their wedding.”

Dave and Lucy’s wedding was an intimate and charming day, the loveliest of English weddings with a New York theme! They married exactly a year to the day since Dave proposed in the big apple. How romantic... I love their story as much as I love the beautiful images of their day, by Bristol wedding photographer Becky Male.

You don’t always have to pay loads of money, shop around and ask friends and family for advice, esp friends who have recently got married. If you know friends that can help you then ask them.

Lucy told me her dress was perfect – although finding it wasn’t as simple as she thought it would be: “I went to the bridal boutiques trying on all the wrong dresses because I thought I knew what I was looking for it was only towards the end of the session that I found my dress because my maid of honor could see how frustrated I was that I hadn’t found one yet and she grabbed a bunch that she liked (previously I would only try on ones that I liked the look of) and it was the first one she chose that I tried on and loved. As soon as I looked in the mirror my words were ‘I didn’t think I could look this nice’

In the English Wedding Book I mentioned greenery and foliage as one of 2016’s major wedding trends – and the shoots I’m seeing on all the big international wedding blogs are saying the same thing… so I was thrilled when lovely Daniela from Ferri Photography submitted her images from a fabulously beautiful, artistic wedding styled shoot where the luscious leaves took centre stage!

The theme for the shoot is set around the story of a local, Italian, village girl who falls in love with an English boy. After what seems like a lifetime away from each other, today is finally the day they will get married.

In July 2015 I was selected to attended a Fine Art Wedding workshop called a Beautiful Way. The workshop took place at the stunning Almonry Barn in Somerset. Together with 12 other other photographers we spent the day exploring the fine art style of photography, making friends, laughing and eating some amazing food!”

“We weren’t planning a traditional white wedding so didn’t want the typical group photos”,  Robyn told me. It’s something I’d never thought of before: formal group shots are so laden with tradition… but really, is that how we even do photography these days? Perhaps there’s a better alternative for you as well, than the half hour (or more!) of ushers dashing around gathering up relatives to stand in a variety of lines?! (And you can read more about traditions and how to break old fashioned wedding rules in the FREE English Wedding Book, if you haven’t already read it.) But today we’re all about gorgeous couple Robyn & Matt…

This brought tears to my eyes – “When you know, you know. I would have married him in a binbag with no guests and been as proud to be his wife as I am now. Fiona said to me once that “love is as easy as putting socks on” and that is my advice: Marry someone who is easy to love.” ~ Robyn.

Louisa and David describe their day as a “simple, traditional country wedding” – and for me, it’s the perfect celebration. They told me their images (by Somerset photographer Michael Riley) “captured the atmosphere, the emotion and the look of the whole wedding perfectly.”

George Inn wedding in Somerset by Michael Riley Photography (33)

The day was held at a 14th century coaching inn, the wonderful and charming George Inn, which needed very little decoration. Louisa worked with David’s Mum to arrange the flowers for the day, and made some rustic bunting which complemented their stationery (from Paperchase) and tied the theme of the day together.
