Becky and Pete’s rustic barn wedding combines a classic colour scheme with more contemporary details – and it’s just amazing. Becky told me, “I sort of built the idea of the day around the beautiful rustic barn… my flowers were quite rustic and wild with lots of foliage, so wooden/greenery/purple was our theme!

Wedding at Channels Lodge by Laura Calderwood Photography (32)

Gorgeous bride Becky did a fantastic job styling her wedding, along with her mum spending time creating lots of DIY bits and bobs: “I hand-made a lot of the decorations and details – my mum made the favours and planted all of our table centres herself.” They suited the barn at Channels Golf Club perfectly – I especially love the flowers in planters on every table, and the funky purple table numbers!

There’s a saying I’d never heard before! If you’re worried about rain on your wedding day, it’s one to remember. Pips and Ian were married back in May, and you might say they were unlucky with the weather… but seeing their wedding photos I don’t think it matters for a second.

Farm wedding in Somerset by Simon Biffen Photography (1)

Imagine you have everything set up for your big day: the marquee is beautifully decorated, and instead of heading outside to smoke or play giant Jenga, all of your guests are together inside. It’s what makes a wedding so special, isn’t it? Everyone you love together in the same room to celebrate with you? It certainly was a special day for Pips and Ian, and their wedding looks like a wonderful day – umbrellas included!

I fell in love with Danielle and Phung’s Notley Abbey wedding as soon as I saw the images: their vibrant colours and beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony stole my heart. This was an international celebration with family travelling from all over the world. Danielle bought her stunning dress in New York, the table plan was a world map (it’s fab!) and there was a tea ceremony as well as the outdoor wedding and reception.

I adore Notley Abbey for its grounds and grandeur: truly a favourite English wedding venue. Danielle told me, “The setting was amazing, but the small touches such as the flowers, family pictures, and wooden signs added our personal touch.”

Today’s rustic English wedding is pure inspiration for DIY brides and grooms everywhere. Louise made so many lovely details to create a fabulously creative wedding which I LOVE! I know you will too.

Rebecca and Howard have the most relaxed approach to wedding planning I’ve seen – the preparations took “about 6 months”, they spent as little as possible and rather than having a theme they styled their country style wedding day with the things they liked… including 1950s music, natural flowers (which I adore!) oh, and Landrovers!

country style wedding Essex (20)

Howard looks the part in a proper English bowler hat – I love it! And Rebecca is simply stunning in a gorgeous lace sleeved dress by Ellis Bridals. The images are wonderful, and the story of this wedding is one I love. It’s a simple, natural and relaxed wedding – from start to finish. It can take months and months of preparation to make a wedding look rustic, natural and simple… or it can actually be all of those things! Rebecca and Howard’s wedding is genuine and all the more beautiful for it.

Pete and Claire are one of those couples who instantly make me smile. They’re a perfect match, absolutely gorgeous and their smiles warm my heart. They styled a rustic barn wedding at The Barn at South Milton, and together with family and friends created a wonderful day full of personality and charm.

It’s the first time I’ve blogged a wedding with a pet hedgehog called Derek – who inspired much of the theme for Liz and Paul’s countryside wedding at Surrey’s Coltsford Mill. They had little hedgehog stamps on their stationery, and even adorable little hedgehog cake toppers… who I’m calling Derek and Mrs Derek!

Bride Liz looks amazing in a Lusan Mandongus designer wedding dress, with exquisite lace detailing and the most beautiful back and train – she’s simply stunning isn’t she? Paul is her perfect match, and I’m so proud to feature such a lovely couple on the English Wedding Blog today.

Oh! Perhaps I should explain the title of today’s post before anyone worries about pixies in central Manchester’s civic buildings… it’s ok. This afternoon’s real wedding feature is by some of my favourite wedding photographers, the lovely Peter and Sara of Pixies in the Cellar. They published this amazing wedding on their blog a little while ago and I just had to show you! Emma and Chris’s wedding day covered two very distinct but equally gorgeous locations…

The ceremony was set in the magnificent (and pixie-free!*) Manchester Town Hall.

*note the lower case p.

Afterwards guests travelled in a vintage bus to Hyde Bank Farm for a rustic wedding reception. The flowers and rustic styling are amazing and perfectly suit the gorgeous bride and groom whose sense of style and fun is awesome!

Hello! Did anyone see June coming?! No? Me neither… I’m still on May! But it’s officially summer and wedding season is in full swing – so let’s begin the week with one of the loveliest weddings I’ve seen: Roseanne and Darren at Cripps Barn.

The gorgeous couple didn’t focus on a colour scheme but as their plans developed they chose details in soft blues and greens. The wedding stands out for the spectacular floral decorations – Roseanne’s bouquet is amazing and the ceremony flowers are fabulous.

I’ll never tire of the pretty sparkle of fairy lights – I’ve had mine up at English Wedding Blog HQ since Christmas and yes, I turn them on all the time! Vicky and Gavin decorated Trevor Barn with bunting and fairy lights for their vintage inspired wedding and when I saw the pictures I fell in love. Life should be this pretty all the time!

bunting fairy lights wedding blog (1)Lovely Jade Osborne Photography sent me her images of their day, from the bridal preparations to the groom’s delight (see the photos!) as he saw the yellow Robin Reliant arrive to take him to the wedding… and then on to the reception.

bunting fairy lights wedding blog (2)

I’ve included more images of the ceremony than usual, simply because there’s such a charming sequence of images as Vicky arrives and Gavin’s nerves – and tears – being to show! I love the moment where he sees his beautiful bride and smiles: it’s always wonderful and to me this moment says, “so long as you’re by my side everything will be ok”.

Jayne and Glen’s wedding is full of English country charm, and its setting in the impressive tithe barn at Browsholme Hall in Lancashire is wonderful. The gorgeous couple poured their hearts and souls into crafting a beautifully homespun theme with stamps, kraft cards and hessian string – and the overall effect is fantastic.

The wedding flowers are a highlight – with help from a local farm selling buckets of flowers for DIY brides, Jayne’s friend Alison styled the beautiful bridal and bridesmaid bouquets to perfectly fit the style of their day.
