Breathtakingly real – Olivia & Phil’s Middleton Lodge wedding with York Place Studios

We talk about different styles of wedding photography almost as though weddings are completely different from the rest of our lives. In some ways, weddings shine brighter than a normal day – but people are still people, and all of those wonderful connections and moments that string together to make a wedding story are rooted deeply in our everyday lives. The skill in beautifully capturing a wedding is unique to every photographer. Some, like documentary wedding photographers York Place Studios, will photograph weddings in a candid, authentic style. Others have an editorial focus, or lean towards fashion or film photography. As a viewer – I’ve been blogging about weddings from different photographers for 16 years now – it’s the moments which feel absolutely genuine and real which excite me.

Now, I can’t even begin to tell you about this wedding without mentioning the English weather. It ALL happened – and the creative skill and adaptability of the award-winning photographers at York Place Studios when it comes to lighting conditions is mindblowing. Olivia & Phil’s day had bright sunshine, indigo skies, a bright white marquee, soft candlelight, mirrorball sparkles and fireworks. That’s pretty much every possible kind of light – and seeing how the images capture the atmosphere through every moment of this wedding day is utterly wonderful.
We’ve spoken about the English weather hundreds of times on these blog pages. Couples worry about rain on their wedding day, but some of the most challenging conditions for photographers include harsh sunshine and low winter light – and today’s wedding meanders through every light condition with grace, weaving a story of a truly memorable day. You can read more about light conditions and wedding photography here.

I could fangirl about the photography all day, but I want to stop and show you the images of this gorgeous couple’s wedding. One last thing though: there’s nothing you can’t do on your wedding day. Bring your personalities and have as much fun as you can imagine. Middleton Lodge has the most amazing party space for dancing until the early hours, and is proof that mirrorball masks make a dance floor. (And also that you need to keep scrolling ALL the way until the end!)

As ever, this wedding is unforgettable, brilliant and beautiful, and captured with love and delicious humour by the inimitable London wedding photographers York Place Studios.
