Lucy & Alex’s beautiful Isle of Wight wedding, with SJ Jones Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

Today’s wedding is timeless, fabulously warm and sunny, utterly beautiful and filled with personality. Lucy and Alex were married on the Isle of Wight, choosing documentary wedding photographer SJ Jones Photography to capture their day at the Royal Hotel. The couple look amazing, the styling is elegant and with super cute personal touches. Oh, and the views are absolutely out of this world!

Wedding photographer review

Steve was everything we wanted from a wedding photographer on our wedding day. He really did blend into the background and captured natural, ‘in the moment’ memories. He made us and our guests feel at ease throughout our day. Steve was so professional with the prep work regarding certain shots we wanted and that continued through the day and beyond; giving us fantastic, genuine photos that we will treasure forever.

Your best wedding moment or memory

Spending the night dancing with our favourite people, in our favourite place.

Tell us anything you did differently – we love hearing about NEW traditions (or none at all!)

We wanted to celebrate our love for the Isle of Wight, so made sure our wedding breakfast included lots of local food…and gin! We made the day personal by including foliage from Alex’s parents garden into the flower arrangements. We had photos of our loved ones on their wedding day dotted around the venue and photos of ourselves at each age for table numbers.

The Royal Hotel, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.

The Royal team were so helpful and professional from the day of booking our wedding to the end of the wedding night! We felt at ease with the staff and trusted them to ensure our day ran smoothly, and it did!

Tell us a little about your outfits – both of you!

Lucy: Off the shoulder lace dress and matching veil from Forget Me Not Designs, Isle of Wight

The staff at Forget Me Not Designs were so lovely and really gave me the ‘bride’ experience, trying on so many different dresses! They were so helpful with advice regarding length of veil, lace etc and really made the dress personal to me.

Alex wore his Royal Navy uniform.

The Flowering Cactus

Anna was so helpful with the planning and organising of our flowers. She listened to our ideas and gave us so many options to choose from. He communication in the run up to the day was fantastic and we absolutely loved the end result.

Cake maker name + review

Miss Dotty’s Cakes, Isle of Wight
We couldn’t have been happier with the wedding cake from Miss Dottys Cakes! It was absolutely stunning and tasted even better than it looked. The attention to detail was incredible, and the flavor was a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. They really brought my vision to life, and it was a highlight of our big day.

Any crafty projects or homemade styling touches?

We included foliage from Alex’s parents’ garden into our table bouquets. Our wedding favours were personalised seed packets with our wedding date. We had photos of Alex’s parents and Lucy’s grandparents on both their wedding days framed by our wedding cake. We made our seating plan using decals and a mirror Alex found! We made sure to include lots of photos of us with our loved ones around the venue and used our baby photos as table numbers.

Wedding readings?

Extract from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres
Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your root was so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

I couldn’t have been happier with the work Lynsey-Marie did for my wedding day! From the trial to the big day, she listened to my ideas and created the perfect bridal look that I felt completely comfortable and beautiful in. She put us all completely at ease and was so lovely during the preparations on the wedding morning. My hair and makeup stayed flawless all day, even through tears and dancing!
