The million things that happened at Emma & Chris’s Welsh wedding, with York Place Studios

Published by Claire Gould on

People say your wedding will go in a blur, there’s so much going on. It’s true! You might plan every moment carefully and take time out for just the two of you, but still on the day your wedding will be a whirlwind. It’s the most incredibly happy hurricane of a day you could ever imagine, but still it goes at a hundred miles an hour, and everything happens all at once.

So capturing the moments is a precious thing indeed.

I read about Emma & Chris’s day on York Place Studios‘ blog. It’s beautiful and I have to say scrolling through the images absolutely captivates me! But the introduction from London wedding photographers Dom & Liam is pure gold. They absolutely nail what weddings are all about, and why photography is such a powerful (yet invisible) part of the day.

“We never remove you from the real moment in any way because we passionately believe that the best photographs on your wedding day happen when you live your wedding. We want you to experience it spontaneously, freely, without one eye on the camera or on where to stand and what is going to happen next. If we want to change the background we won’t move you we’ll move ourselves and find a more interesting composition. We won’t hit you with flash or change the lighting, we’ll find the best way to use the available light because the way that moment looked and felt in your memory is the way we want you to relive it for all those years to come.”

Emma & Chris’s day is wonderful: it’s bursting full of all those wonderful connections between people – this is a wedding from before the pandemic, so it’s full of hugs, crowds, hands being held and two families becoming the very best of friends. This is documentary wedding photography at its very best: I love to see the friends crowding in for a closer look during the ceremony; the grandparents, aunties and uncles having a good old natter in the sunshine, champagne in hand!

Most of all I love how these images from Emma and Chris’s day include everyone – and they are ALL about people and the connections between them. The kids, fascinated, sleepy, excited… the dog, sleepy,… and the guests on the dance floor at the end of the night having the party of a LIFETIME!

As fun as planning styling details for your wedding can be, think carefully about your wedding photography now. Because in 10 years’ time, this is what you’ll want to remember. Tastes and fashions change; styling details are simply a backdrop for your best day ever. And it’s not the colour palette which will make your wedding incredible; it’s the people. Having your day captured by award winning wedding photographers like Dom & Liam at York Place is worth every single penny of your investment – and then some. With images like these you get to relive the moments, not as a fond but vague memory, but with feeling and as if you’re still right there in the moment.
