Amy and Niall’s rustic Priston Mill wedding, with Martin Dabek Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

Today’s wedding is wonderfully sunny and warm, beautifully styled and sooo romantic – it’s absolutely wonderful and I’ve been so excited to share this with you! Gorgeous couple Amy and Niall were married in Somerset, and styled their day around their backgrounds: as Amy is from Yorkshire and Niall is from Wales they incorporated both of these into their day.

They chose the tythe barn at Priston Mill as their wedding venue, and our lovely friend Priston Mill wedding photographer Martin Dabek to capture their day. So grab a cuppa and join us as we enjoy scrolling through the beautiful photographs of this rustic, relaxed, natural wedding day, full of love and laughter!

We were so happy that Martin had managed to catch so many special natural moments for both us and our guests. Sat there with a glass of wine smiling from ear to ear at every single one.

Where did you find your suppliers? (Blogs, magazines, recommendations?)

Carly Williams- makeup – instagram. She has a very impressive collection of bridal pictures. She is also lovely.
Abigail Constanza – also lovely and can do anything with hair. Also found on Instagram (again very impressive collection of pictures.
Lisa Elliot floral design- flowers – again on IG – very patient with me changing my mind lots. Super service.
Joe Felton- amazing at what he does! Again very friendly and keen to capture personalised moments. Our wedding video is so so so personal and made us cry.
Mands run and bakes – on IG but a family friend. Very talented lady- so many compliments on our cake.
Martin Dabek – photography from Priston Mill’s recommended wedding list. So talented and personable.
Nathan Jones (motel concierge on Instagram) – is a friend of ours and a very talented dj. Fulfilled my “Kisstory theme” perfectly. So many compliments from the guests on the music.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

1. Electronic invites (saves on invite printing and stamps)

2. Think about your friends and family that might have a talent and ask them if they can contribute this to the wedding day instead of a wedding present or money. We had a friend as a dj, another friend made a lot of the decor herself, another friend donated a sweet stand from work and bought sweets for us instead of a present and a family friend made our cake.

3. Look for wedding dress samples!

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

Food (all the guests remembered this and many said it’s the nicest food they have had at a wedding).

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

My bridesmaid made nearly all of it herself.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yesssss!!!! I only tried on 3 and bought it straight away on my first wedding dress trip. It was a sample.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Maggie Sottero bought from dream second hand wedding dress in Northolt, London (it was actually brand new with a tag still on – a sample that had never been worn bought from a bridal shop). The lady that runs dream second hand wedding dresses runs it from her loft which she has converted beautifully into a bridal loft! Definitely worth checking out to find beautiful dresses whilst also saving money.

Tell us about your accessories: jewellery, shoes and anything else!

I had a very simple hand made love heart bracelet from “not on the high street”. My shoes were beautiful flat sandals by Roland Cartier.

And what did the groom wear?

He wore beige trousers with a pink bow tie and brown braces – no suit jacket.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

Nude/very light pink floor length dresses from ASOS

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Carly Williams – make up
Abigail Constanza – hair

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

Pink, blush and cream with a relaxed feel- Lisa elliot floral design

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

I did but the wedding venue is beautiful anyway so fine to do more minimalistic

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

I loved making the favours. I had a personalised Stamp made that said “Niall and Amy the perfect mix” and inside were Yorkshire mixture sweets and Welsh humbug sweets in line with our Yorkshire and Wales coming together theme.
Me and Niall also printed silly Polaroids of our guests and with the help of my bridesmaid Shel put them together for the table plan. It was one of our favourite things about the wedding and our guests absolutely loved it.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We had a victoria sponge with loads of fruit home made by Mand runs and bakes – a family friend. It was very impressive, more than we could have hoped for and we had so many compliments. We have frozen it as she made such a generous sized cake and have been enjoying it post wedding and honey moon.

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

Nathan Jones- best dj. We danced to a slow acoustic version of shut up and dance but mixed it very quickly into the fast/ normal version of the song so our guests could join us. We liked this because neither of us like a slow dance for very long (cringe!)

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Don’t try to get round all of your guests- just let everyone come to you and enjoy your day. Savour every single moment because you will want to do it all again for weeks to come. I also wasn’t going to get a videographer and Niall wasn’t that bothered but we are so so so glad we got one now as having the highlights to look back on is just so amazing!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Being with the one you love and every single person you care about all at once- never again will all of your loved ones be all together and it is just so special.

A most delightful real wedding story, from the couple themseleves to the venue, this wedding screams wonderful! Love the photoshoot taken in the fields with the sun in the background, along with the couple walking away from the camera – great photography. The painted welcome board is a lovely feature to have at any wedding, these welcome boards/signs seem to be getting very popular all of a sudden and I can see why!
The bride and groom are a handsome couple and look very realxed in these photos, thank you for sharing.
