Eleni & Shane’s beautiful Belair House London wedding, with Emily Black Photography
Forgive me, lovelies, because today’s wedding has more images than I normally post… it’s just that there are so many little stories in today’s gorgeous celebration, and the little sequences of images tell them so beautifully! (Watch out for my fave – when Shane sees Eleni in her second dress his jaw literally drops!) So welcome to the wedding of gorgeous couple Eleni & Shane, who wed in October at Belair House in Dulwich Village, London. Their photographer was our lovely friend and English Wedding sponsor, London wedding photographer Emily Black.
“I was quite relaxed about my dress – I bought it online in the sale at BHLDN.com, and had it shipped from America. I knew I wanted an ankle length dress, and when I saw “my” dress, I fell in love – I also knew I wanted to have some amazing shoes. I was also lucky enough to be gifted a Needle & Thread wedding dress from a friend, which I had altered to be ankle length also and wore that after dinner for dancing the night away.
Wedding Photographer’s Website
We found Emily Black Photography online, and just fell in love with the style of her photography and the fact that everyone in the images seemed so relaxed.
We couldn’t have had a better photographer. Friends are still telling us now how amazing she was and that she wasn’t “in your face”. Looking at the photographs we are still shocked by how she got every reaction, from my walk down the aisle to the speeches.
3. What’s your top tip for saving money?
The biggest one for us was making our own wedding stationery and then making sure we didn’t choose the wedding option on the printers website. We saved ££ by going to the normal printing section.
4. … and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?
The band was definitely our biggest expense of the wedding other than the venue – and we are so glad. They played the BEST music. Oh and also our Greek street food that we had for the evening. I’m half Greek and our first holiday was in Mykonos where we ate gyros every day on the beach. And what’s better to give your ‘merry’ guests at 10pm then an amazing kebab!
6. Tell us about the suits for the guys – what did the groom and ushers wear?
Shane was clever and bought his suit in the Reiss winter sale about 6 weeks after we got engaged, and wore it with shirt and tie from TM Lewin. The ushers wore suits from Next with floral ties from River Island.
7. Your wedding styling – did your venue need much decoration?
The venue itself is so beautiful so we didn’t need to do much. We wanted guests to just smile when they walked in, so filled the ceremony room with paper fans hanging from the ceiling and then let the amazing flowers do most of the talking in the dining room and staircase.
8. Crafts and makes – did you DIY anything – and was it worth it?
Our wedding stationery from welcome sign to place cards were all designed and crafted by myself. In the days running up to the wedding I was bent over our dining table gold leafing everything I could get my hands on!
9. The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?
This was another “make” and one that I am still told I was crazy to do. I make a chocolate and Guinness cake with salted caramel buttercream icing.
I always remember at weddings that we never eat the cake, so we decided to cut that cost out and for me to make it instead. I’m known as the “baker” in our group of friends so it just made sense.
10. Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:
Eleni: my top tip would be to enter competitions! I entered one just after we got engaged and won our wedding invitations, bridesmaids dresses plus so much more and really helped take a reasonable chunk out of our budget.
Shane: good music is key to keeping the momentum going throughout the day. We spent a long time making sure our Spotify playlists were absolutely perfect for the points where it was needed.
