Rachael & Darren’s super elegant Rockbeare Manor wedding, with Memories & Milestones Photography

Published by Claire Gould on

I love Rachael & Darren’s wedding – the dress code of black tie for all the guys makes it super gorgeous and I adore the venue – such a perfect fit with the elegant styling of the day! Our stunning bride and handsome groom styled the venue with lush creamy white hydrangeas and roses, candles, sequined table runners and mirrors.

The overall look is fabulously done: it’s elegant and timeless, and the black tie dress code makes it look so chic and decadent – reminiscent of 1920s old Hollywood style! Colour accents are kept really simple with gold and blush styling touches perfectly complementing the glamorous look of the beautiful bride and groom.

We met Jen and Mel at our friend’s wedding at Christmas 2015, we were blown away by their professionalism, friendly personalities and we loved how our friend’s photographs looked. By chance I was at a wedding fair with my mum in the January and Memories and Milestones has a stall, they remembered me from the wedding and had our date available, we booked on the spot.

We found Jen and Mel superb, they blended into our wedding and we didn’t realise they were there most of the time, they made the group photos run quickly and efficiently and still our guests comment on how brilliant they were. We also loved how quickly they edited and shared some of our wedding photographs! We would highly recommend them to any future brides.

We went straight on honeymoon after our wedding, we were in the hotel in London on the Sunday night waiting for our flight on the Monday and Memories and Milestones uploaded a selection of truly breathtaking shots. We were so excited and impressed with the speed at which they had edited the images. Everyone commented on how amazing our wedding looked. After all the hard work planning they really captured all elements of the wedding.

What’s your top tip for saving money?

Less is more, you don’t have to go over the top with lots of fresh flowers and gimmicks, pick a mixture of fresh and good quality silk flowers. Pick one big extra such as band over an ice cream tricycle.. and make sure every element of the wedding flows with your theme.

… and which elements of your wedding are you glad you spent more on?

We splashed out on two bands and a mirror selfie booth. We are so glad we did as they went down a storm with guests and made the day flow so well. The afternoon swing band helped people relax and be entertained whilst the group photos took place, evening band had the dance floor buzzing and the booth was full all night with guest amazed by the design and quality of images.

Where did you buy or source your wedding stationery – or was making it a labour of love?

We are lucky that a close friend owns a design company Devon made, and she helped make my design ideas come to life. She produced our programmes, place names, welcome sign, guest book and our seating plan. The seating plan was names etched onto a full length mirror and I had a clear image in my head of how I wanted it to look and Sarah from Devon made, brought it to life superbly and all our guests loved it and still comment on how stunning it was.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes from the minute I tried it on I loved it! as soon as I put it on I knew this is me, and I had tried on quite a few!! The only thing I didn’t like was the edge as it was a straight edge, unfinished almost. So I knew I wanted to add a beaded trim which Justine at Angel face was able to hand bead.

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Dress was Maggie Soterro -Ettia
Dress was bought from Brides of Waterfields, Torquay
Alterations and Beaded trim added by- Angel face, Newton Abbot

Describe your wedding flowers. Who arranged them for you? (florist details would be lovely please)

Clean and elegant wedding flowers- white hydrangea and rose bouquets arranged by Anna Richards floral

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

I gave the venue a plan of where everything needed to be placed and bagged all our table settings into individual bags, which the venue were happy about. They did a fantastic job of setting everything up for us exactly how I imagined it. They made it perfect for us.

Crafts and makes – tell us about any homemade elements of your wedding… did you enjoy them?

We made hangover kits for all our guests staying at the venue with boxes of popcorn and cokes and diet cokes with signs to hang on the doors. They went down a storm. We also did toilet accessories for girls and boys which I really enjoyed putting together and seeing the ladies loving using all the products made me smile.

The wedding cake: what kind of cake did you choose and why?

We chose a 4 tier wedding cake, encorporaring all elements of our wedding, flowers, a black bow and elegance.
Flavours-
Carrot
Red velvet
Lemon
Victoria sponge

Entertainment: any musical recommendations, surprises or treats?

We had two bands
The swing kings – the day band
Mafia 4 – the Evening band and Dj

Words of wisdom: share your best piece of advice for other couples:

Enjoy every minute
And don’t cut corners on things you really want, just prioritise what you need and what you will regret not having.

What’s the best thing about being married?

Knowing you have someone who loves you unconditionally, spending every day with your best friend and being able to introduce each other as my husband/ my wife.
