Hey lovely! How has your week been? I’m having a relaxing day after spending the week wrestling with my calligraphy website and uploading a bunch of brand new modern calligraphy workshops! Head over to http://calligraphy-for-weddings.com if you’d like to find out about those. And Bolton / north west brides and grooms, my next one will be at Smithills Hall on the 6th of October – we have places available and I’d love to see you there!

But onto today’s wedding – and forgive me for waffling because it is a STUNNER! Gorgeous couple Claire and Andy married at Trevenna Barns in April, choosing a rustic feel for their day with the most beautiful colourful flowers. It’s all so romantic and this pair are clearly SO much in love it almost bursts from my screen.

“Trevenna Barns really didn’t need much styling at all. I collected jam jars, lots of jam jars and wrapped hessian around them and used them to hang from the chairs down the aisle with flowers in them.

They are such a lovely couple – and they’ve styled everything with so much personality, I love it. Claire’s Catherine Deane gown is exquisite, matched only by the fabulous style of Mike’s Beggar’s Run bespoke suit! All the love for this beautiful day – enjoy!

We loved the venue for its natural rustic charm and decided to leave it as simple as possible to speak for itself. Mike’s mum bought all the flowers to be used in the bouquets and tables from a wholesale flower warehouse. She (with the help of bridesmaids and Claire’s mum) assembled all the table arrangements the day before. We also had a florist come and put white flowers around the arch to the big barn doorway where our ceremony took place. And she also did big, bright, colourful arrangements in the big milk urns in front of the barn doors – George Mackay.

Happy Monday everyone! I thought we’d kick off this week with a really special wedding – one with the loveliest personal touches and a gorgeous bride and groom, in not-so-sunny Cornwall! Proof if ever it was needed that rain won’t spoil your wedding – because the memories captured and the landscape and styling of Chris and Lorna’s day are all so beautiful.

It was forecast to rain all day for Lorna and Chris’ wedding in Cornwall which was a bit of a worry for me as the photographer as well for the couple, but we must have been in a ‘magic pocket’ as the heavy rain turned into slight drizzle for a few hours just when we left St Sampson’s church after the ceremony to head to The Green for the reception and photos. The venue was only a few miles from where Lorna spent her childhood and she loved the familiar scenery. Although the setting was countryside, Lorna and Chris wanted to incorporate a few personal touches related to their connections to sailing- they both wore their sailing boots for the photos in the field. As the weather was very unpredictable Lorna’s mother’s parasol which she had on her wedding day came to good use!

I love Suzanne and Dan’s wedding – it’s relaxed, homemade, filled with DIY and the loveliest personal touches. It’s also at a winery… which ticks every box for me!

“My mum did our flowers as she’s a horticulturalist and I knew that no-one could do them better. We had Cornish wildflowers in a blue, pink, lilac and white colour palette, and they were arranged in sweet little jam jars.

The venue was a converted barn with beautiful exposed bricks, so we just added lighting, bunting, flowers on the windowsills, and the table decorations. The whole venue and setting was very picturesque, so we didn’t want to gild the lily.

I made the invitations, bunting, table plan display, and cutlery pouches, which also served as name place settings at the table. I did enjoy them as I allowed myself plenty of time to complete them – I’m sure it would have been much more stressful if I’d had to rush.

Today’s gorgeous real wedding is all about beautiful bride Leigh and her gorgeous groom Karl, their minimal, elegant wedding with a divine bouquet, fabulous stationery and the most breathtaking coastal location you can imagine. Oh, and it’s hard to believe this is true, but they married in November. Just look at those endless blue skies…

We chose to get married at Talland Bay Hotel http://www.tallandbayhotel.co.uk. We looked at a few other venues around Cornwall but Talland was the perfect fit for our small wedding. It is a stunning Cliffside boutique hotel. We booked the whole hotel for 2 nights allowing our guests to travel down from the West Midlands and have plenty of time in Cornwall.

Talland is such an eclectic mix of paintings, pictures, ornaments etc that we didn’t need to style the rooms at all. I added the flowers and a few decorations around the fireplace only. We chose not to have a cake, but we did have delicious desserts and a Cheese Board at the end of the Wedding Breakfast.

I love a wedding with a story, and with something different and personal to the couple – and for beautiful bride Claire and her gorgeous husband Matt the stories are absolutely incredible – as amazing as the images of their day.

The proposal is a story in itself: Matt was going to propose at the top of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania but Claire broke her foot and couldn’t go on holiday, so the best man went instead. “John videoed Matt proposing to me at the top. He later showed me the proposal and asked for my answer at the top of Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains – 5 months later – they both kept the secret well!

Their Cornwall wedding is absolutely beautiful: the hilltop theme continues with some of the most spectacular shots you can imagine – taken by lovely reportage photographer Alexa Poppe. Claire and Matt share some great advice with us in their interview below: to save money they say “Do as much as you can yourself. All of our church and table flowers were from the hedgerows or the garden and luckily we have some very talented flower arrangers as friends!
