In my 15 years of writing about weddings, I’ve learned that the cost of a destination wedding depends very much on location, guest lists and styling. But in all of that time I’ve never had a detailed insight into all of the factors which can affect costs of getting married abroad. Today, that changed! I’ve been reading a fabulous article by Michelle Jacobs (luxury destination wedding planner) which really explains everything you should consider when you’re weighing up the relative costs of UK or destination weddings. Imagine getting married in the Lake District in August – pure bliss! I’ve loved seeing all the lovely images of today’s beautiful bride and gorgeous groom as they said their vows in the heart of the Lakes. The setting’s out of this world. The photos by award winning Lake District wedding photographer Mark Battista capture the story of the day perfectly. An absolute dream of a wedding with stunning florals and a masterpiece of a cake – and as always, we’ll share more favourite images on instagram – follow @englishweddingblog and @markbattistaphotography

Today’s beautiful wedding is from the stunning Isle of Wight coast. Kythe and James both look amazing – Kythe’s dress is just gorgeous. I’m in love with the caterpillar cake family (the babies!!!) and the incredible views captured by Isle of Wight wedding photographer SJ Jones Photography at Warren Farm. Would it surprise you to know I often choose the weddings I feature based on a groom’s outfit? Of course I look for styling details and amazing flowers and dresses and decor – but if I see a groom wearing a fabulously fitting, bespoke tailored or really individual suit then I just know the entire wedding will be a beauty.
I do think grooms are overlooked by the wedding media. That’s unfair: not all weddings have a bride. And when they do, why is it the norm for brides to spend thousands on their outfits, and grooms only a fraction of that?!* Happily I’ve seen lots of weddings this last year with amazingly dressed grooms who’ve been equally as committed to planning their weddings as brides!
