I’ve tried my best to hammer home the message that traditions are optional when it comes to weddings… and I realised I’ve missed something really big. I saw a post by Catherine from Silk Garters and it turned so many of my preconceptions on their heads. Because wedding traditions aren’t simply “doing things a certain way because that’s the way they’ve always been done”. And they’re not “following tradition because everyone else is”. Sometimes, they’re all about following in the footsteps of your parents, experiencing a shared, fond memory, or sharing something special. So this blog shares surprising reasons to wear a wedding garter, but the specialness it conveys can be applied to so many other wedding traditions. Over to Catherine…
I think the UK has had the sunniest summer in a long time – it’s been pretty perfect, and I can’t complain as autumn whooshes in. I’m embracing the time to reflect on a busy summer, and excited to share some gorgeous sunny weddings from the last few months (tap here to submit a wedding). There’s a reason elopements in Iceland have become so popular – and it’s not what you think! A new study shows Reykjavik as one of the world’s least reliable wedding destinations for weather and climate. In the same list, London, Paris and Tokyo are risky bets (for an outdoor wedding at least) – but I’m not ready to write them off as wedding destinations just yet – and I’ll tell you why.
It’s been too long – way too long – since I’ve featured an Indian wedding on this blog. Honestly, this makes me sad, and ashamed that I haven’t tried harder. (Reaching out and asking for weddings can feel a little pushy, and I’m shy!) Because the love and ceremony and spirituality of Asian weddings gets my heart every time.
